Going to finish this one tonight 🥰 I'm really into graphic memoirs right now & want to get a bunch when I go to the library next time. What do you all recommend?

In a true story of sapphic love at a Christian summer camp, I thought everyone would be deeply, dangerously homophobic. Instead there was a mix of aggressive homophobia and accepting folks with microaggressions. I appreciate Maggie's struggles outside of queerness, as people are more than our traumas and sexual orientations. I really felt for Maggie, and all her obsession, angst, excitement, and heartbreak of young queer love. 👩🏼❤️👩🏽
Not really my thing, but nice enough. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trying something a little different for #NationalReadaBookDay.
#MagnificentMarch Day 9: These four graphic novel memoirs featured by Fats is perfect for #MemoirMonday. Here‘s a longer list as found in her post: https://wp.me/pDlzr-knS

This is a beautifully written memoir about the awkwardness and drama that comes with being a teenage girl trying to figure out her identity. The artwork style isn‘t my favorite, but it works well with the story being told.
A beautiful coming of age story, but the graphic novel format doesn‘t necessarily add anything to it. The art feels amateurish, which is disappointing, because the story is honest and funny and sad and heartfelt. Still very worth a read, but don‘t expect amazing art.
Good GN! Quick read and it‘s a true story!
Would anyone like to read this?
Free to a good home 🙂. Comment below and I'll randomly pick someone later if there are multiple takers.
Finally reading this book, which has been on my TBR list for a long time.
I'm paying for it this morning, but I stayed up late last night because once I started I could not put this down. I've thoroughly enjoyed the several graphic memories I've read in the past couple years. I've stumbled upon most of them, but I'm going to make an effort to seek them out now.
Memoir about falling in love at a Christian summer camp and the struggle about whether or not to come out to friends and family. There are some funny and poignant moments, but I simply didn‘t connect with the artwork. And that ending?!? I realize memoirs don‘t necessarily have neat and tidy endings, but still.
Could be helpful for a young person coming to terms with their sexuality, but not my cup of tea.
I read this because @LitsyGetsGraphic picked it for last month‘s buddy read. It was great!! The illustrations are deceptively simple but Thrash‘s style conveys the story so well.
The part that got me the most was when people told her she wasn‘t really gay. People do this to lgbtq kids all the time. It happened so much that I stopped trusting myself as a kid and that‘s a terrible feeling.

This was a good story of a young girl‘s first summer love. Although nothing much happens — the book is mostly about the longing — Honor Girl isn‘t boring.
Look what just got delivered! 😊
Read this in one sitting while Litsy was down this morning. 😜
What did the title Honor Girl mean for Maggie before she was chosen and after? Why Maggie was chosen as Honor Girl? Did it mean anything for her?
#litsygetsgraphic
What is the significance of Maggie's haircut? What need might she have been fulfilling by making such a drastic change?
#litsygetsgraphic
What do you think about Maggie‘s theory about gaydar? Anybody experienced this??? Do you think Maggie and Erin are in touch? Is it possible to them to be friends?
#litsygetsgraphic
The main camp story is bookended by a a vignette of a future meet-up of Maggie & Erin. Was it surprising to you how awkward this encounter was between the two older girls - or was that to be expected?

This graphic memoir was the March pick by @LitsyGetsGraphic , to be discussed today, so I read it as soon as I got up! I'm really enjoying the genre of nonfiction graphic novels. This is Maggie Thrash's summer of 15 at an all-girls sleep-away camp, where she falls in love...with another girl. The illustrations are beautiful, the writing is honest, but I wanted a little more of something.
Hello beautiful graphic novels readers❤️ let‘s start our discussion. We hope you check out the article that we just share👇🏻 and have some new ideas about the book.
1️⃣ Sharewith us do you like the book or not and why. 2️⃣ let‘s talk about setting. What kinds of assumptions might be made about campers and the community culture?
3️⃣ Do you remember “Don‘t Ask, Don‘t Tell“ time for LGBT community and was it was for you?
#litsygetsgraphic
Before we get into the discussion questions, here‘s an article that includes an epilogue of sorts that Thrash included in the recent paperback version of the book.

Tilney (wearing his best disgruntled ‘why aren‘t you petting me‘ face) is keeping me company while I finish reading this month‘s #litsygetsgraphic book. I‘m looking forward to discussing it tomorrow! 😃

We‘re looking forward to chatting with you tomorrow! #litsygetsgraphic
I‘m about half way through this graphic memoir about a teenager at Christian camp who is figuring out her sexuality and struggling to fit in. I just started it this morning, so it‘s safe to say it‘s keeping my attention. It has lots of funny moments. I‘m looking forward to discussion with #LitsyGetsGraphic on Saturday.
Started this one tonight for #litsygetsgraphic. Liking it a lot. Being a 15-year-old stinks. Add in confusion about sexual identity while at a Christian camp and you‘ve got one hot mess for this poor kid. 😔
Has anyone started reading honor girl yet?
We‘re looking forward to chatting with you next week about this graphic memoir. In the meantime, here‘s an interview with Maggie Thrash 😃

Trying to fit one more graphic novel in today for my mini Read Harder Challenge Task 4 readathon that I had all by myself today. Seemed like a good way to spend a cold gray day.
Maggie Thrash‘s graphic memoir was a great read. Detailing her experience of developing feelings for an older girl at summer camp, the memoir dives into a lot of teen feelings. I liked how the illustrations were simple yet expressive.
A graphic novel memoir about a teen at camp. She develops feeling for an older girl camp counselor. The drawings are simple and colorful. I spent the whole second half saying “just kiss her already.” 💋
Nope! I‘ve never used that one or heard it used before either🤥.
This was an incredible graphic novel. Loved from start to finish.
Oh em gee!!! I was totally spoiled by @hermyknee !!! Look at all this awesome and amazing stuff she got me!!! I literally love everything so much!!! I can‘t wait to read Honor Girl I‘ve been wanting to read it forever! and I also am super pumped on Hawkeye. She also got me an amazing Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan print that I cannot wait to hang in my office!!! Thank you so so so so much!!! ❤️💜🎉📚😄🤸🏽♀️ #geekygraphicnovelswap
@Kalalalatja We have such similar tastes it‘s uncanny!!! It‘s like you plucked those things straight from my mind. Honor Girl is great! That Alice mug is freaking fabulous!!! Omg I love it so much. And the button and the tote bag are just too funny. They‘re totally things I would buy for myself. @JenlovesJT47 You did a great job putting this together. #geekygraphicnovelswap
Thanks for tagging me @britt_brooke ! Some of these I will be getting to sooner than others. #fivestarpredictions
For Saga and Giant Days, this would be for the rest of the series that's available. I'm planning to marathon them. 🙂
Oh, I'm not sure who hasn't been tagged so if anyone wants to make predictions, please do!
3/5 🌟 I liked this story. But that's about it. Nothing really stood out and although I liked how relatable it was at times and I enjoyed the pop culture references I felt like the character herself never really grew or evolved. I did really like the writing style but I feel overall that I'm missed something.
The illustrative style was a bit unappealing to me at first, but the story quickly drew me in. (Pun intended. 🤓) To realize you're queer in the strange microcosm of summer camp - wow. I rarely get into teen heartache stories, so I was mostly interested in Maggie's friendships, how she began articulating her feelings, and the ways people in her environment attempted to threaten or reward her for hiding those feelings. 💚💚💚
