The Prisoner | B.A. Paris
29 posts | 27 read | 15 to read
A relationship can hold many secrets... She wakes up in a pitch-black room, not knowing where she is. Why has she been taken? Who can she hear talking? And why does she soon feel safer here, imprisoned, than she had begun to feel with her husband, Jed? Amelie has always been a survivor, from losing her parents as a child in Paris to making it on her own in London. Then she meets Carolyn and is soon swept up in a glamorous London lifestyle. Until it starts to go wrong ... In true B.A. Paris style, The Prisoner is a gripping survival story, a twisted love story and at its dark heart a thriller to keep you up all night.

Amazon Original Stories:
Murder at the Royal Ruby - Nita Prose
The Mosquito - B.A. Paris
People Like Them - Minka Kent
Heart of a Mother - Julie Clark
Slot Machine Fever Dream - Chris Bohjalian
Just A Girl - Alyssa Cole

Quickly devoured The Obsession series- a series of short stories. Well developed characters and story. The Mosquito was my favorite. I didn't like the writing style of Slot Machine Fever Dream.

This was the epitome of “okay”. The situation was intriguing enough, the characters ok, but the twists weren‘t actually that hard to figure out. And everything felt so rushed that I didn‘t feel like we really got a chance to know any of the characters so couldn‘t feel that bad when things happened to them. All in all it was a quick listen that kept me interested enough to keep going. 🌟🌟🌟

I kept reading this book and was interested in the outcome but was disappointed because it was glaringly obvious what was going on. Maybe not exact details but an overall overview was obvious from the beginning. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Finished this last week too! An interesting premise: a woman being held in captivity, but she feels safer there than if she were to be with her husband? What happened to her? It‘s a thrilling ride to find out. I don‘t want to give away too much. If you liked Paris‘ previous works, you should like this one! I really feel for the main character! Eager to know what other readers thought!

This was a fast-paced psychological thriller that I greatly enjoyed. I liked the nonlinear timeline; Paris dangles bits of information in front of the reader from both timelines–past and present–in ways that not only kept me hooked and that were then brought together so well. While some of the plot points were easy to figure out, there were enough surprises to keep my attention. The characters were interesting and well-developed, and relatable.

I admit that I plowed through this psychological thriller as I had to know what was happening and if I had figured it out correctly. I found it an enjoyable read, but like others, I found the ending a little convoluted and the story does slow down some. The resolution just seems to be overly complicated. This, therefore, is one of those books that is a lot of fun if you do not think too hard about it...just enjoy the ride. 3.75/5

This psychological thriller starts off well and I was quite gripped by it. However, towards the end it does get quite far fetched and convoluted. I also found the ending a little disappointing so this put a big dampener on the whole thing. I read this book via the #Pigeonhole app over a period of ten days. I looked forward to each stave as I was eager to find out what it was all about. I did enjoy it but with some quibbles. 3.5⭐️

The first 70% of this was very atmospheric as it led the reader through what Amelie was experiencing whilst kidnapped with the light deprivation etc, alternated with chapters about her early life. Amelie was fairly easy to empathise with, although she was a little naïve, not only in accepting a job from someone she had only just met who could have had nefarious motives, but also in agreeing to marry Ned. (Continued in comments)

OutsmartYourShelf It was a 4/4.5 star rating for sure until the final 30%. Things slowed down & there was a lot of talking as Amelie tries to find out why she was kidnapped & who was behind it. It made the pace of the book rather uneven. In the end, I'm rating this 3.5🌟 as the first 70% of it was great.

My thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Hodder & Stoughton, for the opportunity to read an ARC. #NetGalley

I don't know if it is me, because I have been sick, but this one wasn't as good as her other books. It was still good, but for some reason wasn't as thrilling. I still give a pick though. Finished it last night.

A prisoner…but where?

Is Amelie a prisoner in her own home, in the basement where she is held captive, in her mind, or all three places?

FULL REVIEW WILL BE ON NOVEMBER 1.

A prisoner…but where?

Is Amelie a prisoner in her own home, in the basement where she is held captive, in her mind, or all three places?

It is a little slow at first, but you will need to continue reading because you HAVE to find out what really is going on and what happens.

Another good one for thriller fans and fans of Ms. Paris. 4/5

EadieB This is a great thriller, a perfect escape read. It is a fascinating tale of mystery and intrigue. It is a character study of human behavior. The unexpected twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning until the very end. The pacing was lightening fast and kept me reading. This is definitely the best B.A. Paris book and I would highly recommend it to others. If you like mystery thrillers then you will love this book. 2y
EadieB I would like thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy for an honest review. 2y

Welcome to the mind games. Amelie and her billionaire husband, Ned, are kidnapped in the middle of the night. Who took them and why?

In classic B.A. Paris style, the twists and turns kept me guessing. I was hooked from the very first line. Everything goes as expected right up until it doesn‘t. While I enjoyed this fast paced thriller, a critical point in the plot left me with a lot of questions.

Love these books! Amelie gets kidnapped after a quickie marriage and is literally kept in the dark. Alternating between past and present, the novel details her life as well as hidden identities, secrets, and lies.
