I listened to and read this back and forth… even though the chapters didn‘t align for some reason. And then the British narrator made the mystery set in Ancient Egypt feel a bit off…. A little strange. But an interesting stand-alone for sure. #scarathlon #spookyghostparty #bingo #bookspinbingo

A weekend of housework gave me the time to listen to my monthly Christie a few days earlier than usual. This is a different novel than her earlier books. I didn't read anything about this one before I started, so when it began in ancient Egypt, I kept expecting that it was a preface and for the story to switch to the 20th century. But no, this is all ancient Egypt but still recognizable as a Christie novel. It's not awesome, but it's solid.

Agatha Christie's historical detective story set in Ancient Egypt around 2000 BC.

I wasn't sure whether X or Y was the murderer, and of course it was Z. It was an interesting experiment, but I did spend quite a bit of time trying to work out who the characters would be and how the story would unfold in one of Dame Agatha's more contemporary stories.

Waiting for some friends to talk about books... Tea cake and an unusual Lady Agatha story.. I can wait ;)

vlwelser Is that the weird Egypt one? 2y
catsuit_mango @vlwelser yes it's that one. I was thinking you could give a sample to read to anyone, they would not guess it's from her. 2y

This is so far from her norm but at the same time it really isn't. This one takes place in ancient Egypt. Although I'm not sure how accurate it is, it's definitely entertaining. Obviously it's a mystery.

#BookSpinBingo another free square (I seem to be going off script)

When I was a teen I bought a HUGE box of old Agatha Christie paperbacks. I opened one up today for book club and realized it‘s so old it has a cigarette ad INSIDE of it. Whaaaaaaaat?!?

umbrellagirl Oh my! My grandfather used to smoke those. 4y

Thank you to Hoopla for keeping me stocked with reading material. Taking a break from Poirot with one of AC‘s standalone mysteries. #myyearwithagatha

Tired me with one of my favourite #mystery books-i love so many of #agathachristie 's books this was a tough choice!I love this one because the setting is so different and it's still a great mystery.Unsurprisingly, Wilkie Collins was among her favourite writers with Woman in white and The moonstone being books she loved.I love those books too SO was nice to discover that.

#agameoffavorites DAY 7: MYSTERY
I adore Agatha Christie. I think she is absolutely brilliant and is responsible for a lot of our modern mystery series. My two favorite Christie books are Death Comes As the End (set in ancient Egypt!) and And Then There Were None.
Her biographer noted that her two favorite authors were Graham Greene and Elizabeth Bowen, and that she also admired P.G. Wodehouse (one of her books is dedicated to him). #mystery

My #christie collection from when I was younger. My friends had Animorphs and I had this (not knocking Animorphs, just noting that I was possibly an odd child, lol.)

In ancient Egypt, Imhotep brings a concubine home which sets the delicate balance in his household off kilter. His three sons aren't happy because he doesn't give them more responsibility and two of their wives are unhappy. The lone daughter, home after being widowed, notices the change. The beautiful young concubine enjoys stirring the pot until she is found dead. Was it an accident or is something far more sinister at work?

"You know that in all tombs there is always a false door? Well, people are like that too. They create a false door to deceive. If they are conscious of weakness, of inefficiency, they make an imposing door of self assertion, of bluster, of overwhelming authority and after a time they get to believe in it themselves. They think, and everybody thinks that they are like that. But behind that door, is bare rock"

Hm. Seems like this is yet another dud for me. Christie should have stuck to England.
