“You can‘t catch him playing “You‘ll never catch me!”
“You can‘t catch him playing “You‘ll never catch me!”
This book uses a great sense of imagery and repetition. The book rearranged the words to set two different moods and tones on the same poem. The poems invite children to see things from different perspectives by filling the poems backwards essentially.
This book of poems is very creative in its structure! I would use this in a classroom when learning about perspectives or POV
For love,
give up your voice
This reverses to
...Don't
give up your voice
for love
This book would be great in an elementary level classroom. Besides teaching some basic fairytales, these books would amaze the children and make them wonder how someone could create such a poem.
This is another book on reverso poems. The poem can be read from top to bottom as well as bottom to top. There are many fairytales covered in this book including puss in boots and the little mermaid. It's amazing to see a poem flip so freely and have such nice flow. The amount of time this collection must've taken makes these poems worth the read.
“That ridiculous loser I am not a slowpoke. Though I may be the smallest bit distracted, I can‘t be beat. I‘ve got rabbit feet to take me to the finish line.”
I would love to have this book in my classroom! It would be fun to read the original story and then read the reversed tale!
Published in 2013- Follow Follow is a poetry book full of reversed poems. All these poems are of tales that have been told for years. Takes such as The Tortise and the Hare, The Little Mermaid, and The Princess and the Pea. There were so many cute poems that took a twist on these classic tales. The poems used rhyme schemes and repetition to keep the flow of the words while telling the story
My favorite part about these poems was how they are related to actually fictional stories already made like Aladdin and the Tortoise and the Hare.
Follow Follow by Marilyn Singer published in 2013 was an amazing poem book for young children. One of the poems I read was Your Wish is my Command based on Aladdin. He helps a wicked sorcerer retrieve a magical lamp from a cave and releases the genie who lives inside and with its powers Aladdin becomes wealthy and powerful. Another poem was Ready Steady Go about a tortoise and a hare having a race and the tortoise winning the race. Love all these!
“My wish, your command. This is what i demand: true freedom!”
I think it‘s really cool how she used the exact same words just reversed to give a different perspective on a story.
Marilyn Singer writes a collection of reverse poems and is published in 2013. This collection of poems is giving different perspectives from a few classic tales. I think this collection is really cool and creative. I love the use of imagination. But it does get a little bit difficult to read, especially if a child was trying to read it.
This poetry book tells short stories that then get flipped and told backwards as well. Both show two different stories, yet with the same context. The poems are rather short and not ran on. It gives good imaginary senses and also come in a book full of different stories!
This book is interesting for kids to get their minds working and thinking. In terms of helping to make them a better reader, I like it. It keeps their interest because of its uniqueness and makes them focus on whats being told!
“Read my book. And then just imagine this, me in my garret, working all alone, how hard it was to write. I need to tell the world the truth, so here goes: I beg your pardon— fairies helped.”
“Fairies helped? I beg your pardon! So, here goes the truth: I need to tell the world how hard it was to write, me in my garret, working all alone. Just imagine this, and then read my book.”
These poems are so clever with how they are written and constructed. I really like this book
This is such a fun poetry book for kids. They are poems that are about classic fairy tale characters, like Thumbelina and The Little Mermaid. These poems are really cool though because if you read them top to bottom, they mean one thing; but if you read them bottom to top, they mean something else.
The illustrations captured my attention to begin with. A very royal feel with bold colors and clear lines.
These poems were a little weird to follow, but I read the back of the book and the poems are based on other stories. Reverso style was created by the author and basically just changes the punctuation, capitalization, etc. and can change the whole meaning of the poem. These poems are absolutely phenomenal and would be great for advanced 2nd grade and above.
“ that‘s ridiculous loser! I am not a slow poke. Though I may be the smallest bit distracted, I can‘t be beat. I‘ve got rabbit feet to take me to the finish line”
This book consists of poems about people‘s experiences. Each one is both unique and magical!
Great book with a variety of poem and a variety of characters that any child can relate to.
2013, poetry. Several poems throughout the book that are split from two points of views. Vibrant pictures that match each of the poems. Culturally diverse characters and scenes along with animals as characters.
#LiteraryLuck Day 4: #Royalty is featured quite prominently in this collection of reverso poems by Marilyn Singer. This book is a testament to just how essential punctuation marks are in a text, regardless of whether it be prose or poetry. Masse remained faithful to this duality through her illustrations that portray varying shades, flipped perspectives, or the extreme polarities in characterization. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-7jX

It‘s really very clever and I loved the first book! This one is also very good, and it amazes me that she can come up with these! It‘s presented very nicely in a picture book. The poems themselves are side-by-side – the poem, then its reverse, beside in a different colour. The pictures to go with are presented on the page beside, with two slightly different pictures side-by-side, representing each poem and its reverse.
