Me, reading: wait, a capital A looks like a mountain, this is a book about a mountain called Ascension and also the narrator is definitely autistic, do the As mean anything?????

This was a fun if silly Eldritch horror to listen to on a roadtrip. There were some clear Lovecraftian influences - my husband and I started counting the number of characters driven mad by existential dread - and the creatures were fun, even if the plot was predictable and the author was unable to reconcile the genius/everyman/tragic background tendencies of the MC. Could have used a good edit, and some checks on the underlying physics.

This book in my TBR has a #CloudsCover around a mountain that mysteriously appears in the Pacific Ocean ☁️
It‘s on my #Roll100 list so I hope it pushes me to get it read! this year.
Thanks to our hosts for another fun month of prompts! 🤗
This was a good book. Very thought provoking. If you like mountain climbing, lost in a blizzard type books, this might be for you. It delves into some religious stuff but is an interesting way to see the meaning of life.

Wow this book was weird. That isn‘t to say I didn‘t like it. It was perfect summer reading at a time when I didn‘t want to think too deeply. I just went along with Harold for the climb up the mysterious mountain that suddenly appeared in the middle of the ocean.
Everyone is out tonight so I‘m eating dinner on the couch and reading this weird book. (We have a rule against eating on the couch which I break every time I am home alone 🤐)
My brother disappeared twenty-nine years ago.

I've drawn the winners for my impromptu #Aardvark book giveaway. Big congrats to @WorldsOkayestStepMom for winning The Drowning Woman and @marleed for winning Ascension! ❤️
Shoot me an email at ashleyandthecity@gmail.com with the address you'd like me to send them to 🥰
repost for @swishandflick:
#GIVEAWAY ALERT! I received a duplicate #Aardvark box this month by mistake. I reached out to see if I should return it, and they graciously said to share with friends. SO, what better bookish peeps to share the love with than my Litsy fam?!
TO ENTER: comment which ONE of these books you'd most like to win by EOD *Friday 7/14* and I'll draw a winner for each. Have them already? Tag a friend! ❤️
I swear, the joy of #bookmail never fades. Both my #BOTM and #Aardvark boxes arrived, as well as two books from publishers. I'd known I won a copy of Business or Pleasure, but The Phoenix Economy took me by surprise (I don't remember entering for it 🤔). But I mean, never gonna turn down a free book!
PS: Am I the only one feeling like Aardvark has BOTM beat on quality? The jacket texture feels more substantial, and the pages aren't as thin (imo).
I do love me a science-y horror mystery thriller.
Hmmm. That‘s very a specific genre. Oughta be a shorter name for that.
Just another reason to LOVE @AardvarkBookClub - after I finalized my box yesterday, I belatedly remembered that I had wanted to add on Ascension (from last month's choices) after hearing great things about it. I reached out to #Aardvark's amazing customer service team, figuring it couldn't hurt to ask if I could add it after-the-fact, and they hooked me up! ?
(PS: I asked BOTM this once and their reply was basically "tough titties")
What a fever dream. A group of scientists are summoned to climb a mountain that has suddenly appeared in the middle of the ocean. Craziness and dread start almost immediately and it just builds and builds. It's definitely a book I'll be thinking about for a long time.
I really enjoyed this book; it didn‘t go for easy answers and that made me respect the story even more. A contender for one of my favorite reads of 2023. In the words of #aardvark it was “Aamazing”!
A man, thought to be long dead, is discovered in a care home, his mind fractured. His writings reveal a journey to a mountain that appeared suddenly in the middle of the ocean. Much of this is very entertaining and a good read, but there are some holes and the poorly written prologue feels slapped on. A low pick for me.
Book 101📚 4⭐️
Very fucking cool!
A mountain, 42000 feet high, has magically appeared in the middle of the ocean - How? Why?
Filled with time/space dimension travel, molecular biology and RNA, and aliens!
Such an interesting story! Definitely worth checking out.
A special edition from The Broken Binding. I have t gotten any of my orders for a couple months. It‘s been Christmas daily around here.
My first stab at a guess for one of the #Aardvark May clues. (PS: How cute is the "looking through the binoculars" idea?? - I love that they switch it up!)
I'm at work on this cloudy, cold day. Here are the books I plan on getting added to our catalog.
