Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping
Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping | Sangu Mandanna
13 posts | 7 read | 1 reading | 26 to read
An enchanting novel about a witch who has a second chance to get her magical powers--and her life--back on track, from the national bestselling author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches. Sera Swan was once one of the most powerful witches in Britain. Then she resurrected her great-aunt Jasmine from the (very recently) dead, lost most of her magic, befriended a semi-villainous talking fox, and was exiled from her magical Guild. Now she (slightly reluctantly and a bit grumpily) helps Aunt Jasmine run an inn in Lancashire, where she deals with her quirky guest's shenanigans, tries to keep the talking fox in check, and longs for the magical future she lost. When she learns about an old spell book that could hold the secret to restoring her power, she finds herself turning to Luke Larsen, a gorgeous and icy historian who might be the only person who can help her unlock the book's mysteries. The fact that he also happens to be her one-night stand from years ago is totally irrelevant. Running an inn, reclaiming lost magic, and trying not to fall in love is a lot for anyone, but Sera is about to discover that she doesn't have to do it alone...and that the weird, wonderful family she's made might be the best magic of all.

Starting a new book. I loved the first book I read by this author - hoping this has the same vibes.

mcctrish This is on my must get fall reads list 5d
DGRachel I loved this one almost as much as I loved The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches. It‘s so good. 💖 Also, Roo Roo is my new favorite character. 5d

While I didn't love this one quite as much as Very Secret Society, it was still a worthy follow up. All the found family, cozy magic vibes. Talking foxes and zombie roosters. The ending fell a bit short, but all in all a lovely time if you're looking for cozy fantasy.

What an absolutely lovely book. The heart of this magic was found family & love as resistance to an unkind world ♥️ I‘m very here for it

I normally don‘t do spoiler posts, but I had to say something about the ending. All I can say here is: many stars ⭐️ I highly recommend.

If you‘ve already read it, see the comments below 😉 I have many thoughts about this!

📸by me of a tiny cicada molt I found clinging like amber to a tree outside my office 🪲

StaceGhost Obviously, the child in me wants nothing but a happy ending. I want Beowulf to return, Frodo to enjoy the Shire again, the Enchanted Castle to stay enchanted. BUT as hard as this ending was, I‘ve written enough about enchantment this year to appreciate what the author did. We have to carry the enchantment within us & she wrote so eloquently about how we might do just that. 3w

Between the end of June & beginning of August, I read or listened to 7 historical fiction/mystery/fantasy/adventure books & 1 modern day romantasy—all mostly set in England. Guess I was in a mood! Already reviewed 2 & another was a reread.
All are 4-4.5⭐️
Rushworth—4th in the Jonathan Darcy/Juliet Tilney series. Will they ever be allowed to get married?! The only series where Darcy is a jerk.
Blameless—Not much romance but definitely 👇

Scochrane26 (Blameless cont) Adventure. 3rd in series, still love the audio. My Imaginary Mary—history is changed, Mary Shelley (who may not become a Shelley in this version) & Ada Lovelace are smart, creative, & magical. 3w
Scochrane26 Tagged—another good one from this author with found family, magic, & a cute love interest. Plus, autism representation. Unexpected Peril—6th in Veronica Speedwell series, still loving this series 3w

Finished this on my flight on Saturday. I really liked this book. It‘s got magic, drama, romance and finding your path. There is a talking fox and a mismatch of characters. It was a lot of fun but also touches on some more serious topics.

youneverarrived That‘s a lovely cover 😍 1mo

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches was a 5⭐️ hug in book form for me last year so the tagged book (coming out in April 2024) is a potential #Anticipated5StarRead for me. And even if it doesn‘t quite hit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am sure it will be delighted & I can‘t wait! 💜
