3.75/5 ⭐️ While I thought the ending was good, the majority of the book lacked the magic and power I thought this book would have. Check CW because this is based on child soldiers in Nigeria and it is very dark and grim #FoodandLit Nigeria 🇳🇬

This was a cute witchy romcom with ghosts and a haunted house and a small snowy island town. I liked how Riley was able to find her people and come into her power. Her relationship with Edison was sweet but took a backseat to the plot of the house and it's residents, which I appreciated. I really enjoyed the mystery of it all, I'll definitely continue the series.

Ugh I almost bailed on this one a couple times. I am all for a silly romance but this one felt too cringe. The characters' fixation on how hot the other was and how much they wanted to bang each other was over the top ridiculous. And I thought the magic system was confusing and wasn't explained very well. Overall disappointing, the cover is so cute 😕
Okay add me to the long list of people who rave about this book. It was SO SWEET. It is the definition of cozy. I loved the girls, I loved the magic, I loved the romance. The conflict was there, but just low stakes enough to not ping my anxiety.
Just read this, if you haven't already. I'm so glad I own this book, I can see it becoming an annual reread.
Also I want some of Mika's tea ☕✨
Welcome to Nola. It's a city a lot like New Orleans, except filled with magic, music, and wonders. But as magical songs start to disappear, the city is in danger. It's up to Perilous Graves and his friends to rescue the songs before it's too late.
This was such a lovely adventure. It reminded me of the Phantom Tollbooth mixed with the Starless Sea. Definitely one to reread and get more out of each time.

I first read this about 10 years ago so thought it was time for a re-read. I'm not as easily impressed as I was back then, so I'd probably rate this at a 3.5🌟 now. There's not much backstory given (there is a reason for that that the reader finds out later) & it makes the narrative a bit disorientating as the reader works out what is happening. The twist is still good though.
2015 review: A promising start to what looks to be a good YA series.
This was a fun but dark vampire apocalyptic type book. Auggie is used to living in a town full of vampires. He's not used to them constantly approaching him, claiming that he's some prophesied vessel for the rise of a dark being. Now he's got multiple cults after him trying to get him on their side while he's just trying to pass algebra. And hows he supposed to keep his head when the cute vampires keep flirting with him?
Twas a hilarious adventure
