Book 1 of the series. I‘d read some of the later ones, so it was interesting to go back to where it all started. #serieslove2025

My first read of 2025! I love the Powell/Loy movies, and I think the first film does an excellent job at adapting this book. If you are not familiar with the title, this is a well done detective novel with fun, sassy characters and an intriguing mystery. But if you've seen the movie, it doesn't really offer much additional story or insight. Still, since it has been a while since I've watched the movie, I had a blast revisiting Nick and Nora.
Two thumbs down. I've never read Chandler, so I didn't realize I would have to muddle through blatant misogyny. The hostility with which he writes about his female characters is nauseating. And don't give me the "he's a product of his time" garbage. I've read plenty of literature from the time that doesn't normalize slapping women around and make every female character insipid and ridiculous. It's gross.

‘I drive. That‘s what I do. All I do.‘
‘Driver‘, a Hollywood stunt driver by day, and a getaway driver by night.
Dark, atmospheric noir fiction. I liked the narration style. This was a fast paced story with all the right details to fully immerse you in the scenes.
