Pickpick

This book was left behind by one of my daughters when she moved out years ago, and it was the perfect choice for prompt 29 of #52bookclub24: “Published in a Year of the Dragon“. It was published in 1976 and, as the title suggests, it features dragons! I loved the story! Wish I had read it when I was young.

#gottacatchemall @PuddleJumper (prompt 57, Sirfetch'd: Book you keep meaning to read)

willaful I loved this and the sequel when I was a teen.... 10mo
Librarybelle A great find for the Year of the Dragon! 10mo

BarbaraBB A great find indeed! 10mo
TheAromaofBooks This is a great series. 10mo
kwmg40 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB I was very excited when I saw it was published in 1976! 10mo
kwmg40 @willaful @TheAromaofBooks I‘m definitely going to real more in this series! 10mo
TheAromaofBooks It's a little weird because there is the whole long Pern series, and within that series there are two trilogies, including this one. I liked these three books better when I read them within the context of the longer series, but there are like 20+ in the Pern series, so it's a serious commitment 😂 10mo
PuddleJumper Oh the nostalgia! I devoured them in my teenage years 10mo
Andrew65 Love the look of this. Well done 🎉🎉🎉 10mo
Larkken These were my favorites in the Pern series! (Also, possibly not a coincidence, my first McCaffreys) glad you enjoyed the first one. 10mo
kwmg40 @TheAromaofBooks @Larkken I'd read another book in the Pern series several years ago. I did like it, but for some reason, never got back to the series until now. Well, I'm convinced I need to read more from the series! 10mo
kwmg40 @PuddleJumper I'd read a lot of Heinlein in my teenage years and some of them make me cringe now when I reread them, though they're still enjoyable in many ways. I imagine the Pern series stands up better to the test of time! 10mo
kwmg40 @Andrew65 Thanks! 10mo

Revisiting Pern via audiobook. Aside from some of the marked blind spots of 1960s second wave feminism, the world building and writerly craftmanship still hold up. I read the #Harperhall trilogy first, then #Dragonflight, #Dragonquest, and #TheWhiteDragon when I was still in elementary school and they got me into sci fi as a lifelong reader. Coming back decades later is eye opening, sometimes alarming, and yet still vindicating.
