Pickpick

The set up for The Perfect Mother reminded me of Not That I Could Tell—a group of mothers, something big happens after they spend an evening drinking—but I liked this book so much more. It kept me entertained with some good twists. #BOTM

I finished this on the 1st and thought it worked well for #MammaMia, but then, I never actually got around to posting it, so it‘s a couple days late now. 🤷🏼‍♀️ #ABBAinAugust

Mdargusch Good one! 😁 6y
Reviewsbylola I actually thought of this one for mama Mia too but went with a different book! 6y
emilyhaldi Sounds fun! 6y
Meredith3 Loved this and not that I could tell! Both reminded me of the show Desperate Housewives. 6y
Cinfhen I really enjoyed this book..wayyyy more than I thought 💕good choice 6y

Irene Pollack is a terrible mother. She wants to turn her son Bertie into a genius. She forces him to do Yoga and speak Italian and play saxophone and go to psychoanalysis and wear pink dungarees to protest against gender inequality. And he can‘t eat pizza. Or ice cream.

Poor Bertie. And all along, he already IS a genius. He is thoughtful and clever and oh so very kind.

Libby1 @emilyhaldi - I ran out of space to tag you. Sorry! 6y
Mdargusch Great review! Stacking. 👍🏼 6y
BookishMe I LOVE LOVE Bertie... Of course I can't say the same for the detestable Irene ;p 6y

Libby1 @Mdargusch - yippee! The first book in this series is called 44 Scotland Street. It focuses on a number of characters but Bertie is by far the star of the show; and Irene is definitely the pantomime villain! 6y
Libby1 @BookishMe - I just want to be his mummy for a day. He‘s such a dear. 6y
BookishMe @Libby1 indeed 💗💗 6y
Meredith3 Poor Bertie!!! 6y
emilyhaldi I feel like I need to read about little Bertie!!! He sounds endearing ☺️☺️☺️ 6y
Reviewsbylola This is one of those authors I‘ve never read but I feel like I should. 6y
LeslieO ❤️Bertie! But I'm behind in the series. Haven't read this one yet. 6y
Cinfhen I‘m already in love with Bertie and we haven‘t even met 😂💕 6y
Herschelian Love the whole series - best to read it in order so you grow with Bertie. 6y
Libby1 I agree with @Herschelian . I think it‘s best to start with 44 Scotland Street, which is the beginning of Bertie‘s story. @Meredith3 , @emilyhaldi , @Reviewsbylola , @LeslieO , @Cinfhen - I am not exaggerating when I say that Bertie is one of my favourite characters of all time, and that I‘ve never laughed so much over a series of books as I have with this one. 6y

Discovered #AbbaInAugust in the nick of time! Timeless music I can relate to ;p

This #MammaMia in the tagged book finally shoves her way, following own whims 🤣🤣

RadicalReader @BookishMe I certainly wouldn‘t object to sleeping for a year because we certainly should make up or discover some serious rain checks for all the Naps we refused to take as a child 6y
BookishMe @RadicalReader absolutely... ZERO sleep debt! 😄 😄 6y

#mammamia talk about having baby fever! I‘m a little worried if @emilyhaldi or myself get pregnant @Reviewsbylola might do some baby snatching 😬. Jkjk but for real 😹 #ABBAinAugust

Mdargusch Hahaha! We will need an alarm system for those babies! 6y
Meredith3 @Mdargusch ikr? 😹😹😹 6y
emilyhaldi The fear is real 😅 6y

Reviewsbylola I will for sure snatch that baby once it‘s born!! I‘ll let you live though. 6y
Meredith3 @Reviewsbylola thank you 🙏🏻 ☺️ 6y
Reviewsbylola I think the crazed psycho baby snatcher on the cover even looks like me a little bit. 🤔 6y
Cinfhen 😂😂😂😂 6y

Mamma Mia, here I go again
My my, how can I resist you?
Mamma Mia, does it show again
My my, just how much I‘ve missed you?

Yes, I‘ve been broken-hearted
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go?
Mamma Mia, now I really know
My, my, I could never let you go

I guess this is how Christian is feeling at the beginning of book two, after how he and Anastasia ended things in book one. #MammaMia #ABBAinAugusy

Meredith3 The song is very fitting for 50 shades! Who woulda thought! 6y
Mdargusch Interesting comparison! 😎 6y
emilyhaldi Too bad this song is probably not quite sexy enough for this movie 😂 6y

#mammamia #abbainaugust
My all time favorite novella. Just so much gorgeous writing and emotional punch packed in this wee book.
It captures a warm English spring day in 1924, yet also manages to reflect on a whole life lived, unraveling in a single narrative that flutters between time and place with ease. It captures both the bittersweet nature of looking back at the end of an affair, and also how single moments can influence a whole life. 💕

BarbaraBB A great read, I agree 💜 6y
Meredith3 Sounds deep and impactful! 6y

I “borrowed” this photo from Lucy Worsley‘s Twitter account. I‘m dying to read this historical book about a famous British #mammamia. And I also want to read the tagged novel, one of Lucy‘s favorites, because I love boarding school stories and “slightly odd, introverted women.” 😊 #agameoffavorites #ABBAinAugust

Reviewsbylola That‘s a beautiful looking book. And I loved Prep! 6y
saresmoore Hmm, I‘d sort of written off Prep as too fluffy, but your post and @Reviewsbylola make me want to try it. I‘m also interested in the Queen Victoria book! 6y
LeahBergen I have this pre-ordered (my first time EVER pre-ordering a book 😮). Prep is good! I think you‘d like it, @saresmoore . 6y
See All 12 Comments
Reviewsbylola She has at least three books on Q.V., including this one. 🤔 Have you read the others? @LeahBergen 6y
LeahBergen @Reviewsbylola No, I‘ve only read her Jane Austen at Home and thought it was very well done (oh, and I have If Walls Could Talk on my shelf 😃). I know one of her other QV books is YA fiction, though (and I haven‘t read any of her fiction, have you?) 6y
Meredith3 I want some of that wine! Heeeey! 🍷 👋🏻 6y
Mdargusch I need to read this and Prep! 6y
rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen @Reviewsbylola I've been wanting to read some of her YA too. 6y
Reviewsbylola I‘ve never read anything by her @leahbergen but I did just reserve If These Walls. 6y
emilyhaldi The pictured book has been on my list for a while. And I have Jane Austen at Home already in my tbr stacks 🤗 6y
batsy I enjoyed Prep, too :) @saresmoore 6y
Cinfhen Prep was good @4thhouseontheleft just read and reviewed it @saresmoore but it might be a “tad” fluff..I love the photo, BTW 6y

#abbainaugust #mammamia I have posted this title before, it remains probably my all time favorite memoir.I love Vivian Gorniks writing anyway ,whatever she writes. This book is a wonderful conversation about a daughters relationship with her mother.Sometimes they are nearly at each other‘s throats, sometimes they find common ground. Highly recommended.

Reviewsbylola This sounds good! I‘m always on the hunt for great memoirs! 6y
Cinfhen The mom in this memoir sounds terrifying!! #MamaMia 😱 6y
Leftcoastzen @Reviewsbylola Vivian‘s description of the walks they take in Manhattan are wonderful as well. 6y
