The Skin of Dreams | Raymond Queneau

Pickpick

This is a difficult one to rate. The narrative weaves back and forth between the MC's rather tedious and impoverished existence and his daydreams, which are so vivid as to sublimate reality. As someone given to vivid daydreaming, I completely relate to this, even if it can make for a disorienting reading experience at times. Queneau's wordplay is dazzling at times and very funny, even in translation. It's not quite like anything I've ever read 👇

The_Penniless_Author ...before, and the experimental qualities that make it such an interesting and admirable book also keep me from loving it unabashedly. Definitely worth reading once, though I'll be interested to see if I ever feel compelled to revisit it. 7mo

Garbage tumbled out of the metal bin and fell in a torrent into the trash can, eggshells, cores, greasy paper, peels.

#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView

1. I have about a dozen books in the on-deck circle to read next, but I'm not sure which I'll choose. Most likely The Skin of Dreams or Portnoy's Complaint (thanks @RaeLovesToRead 😊).

2. No, between the NYRB bookclub and all my local used bookstores I have more than enough to read at the moment.

#Mtcookbook quickie! All I‘m going to say is I will be making this dressing for anything, not just wraps.

Very citrusy 🍋. Orange, lemon, lime for the win! I subbed spicy brown mustard, which I thought my daughter would reject, but she loved it too.

mabell Sounds bright and fresh! 14mo
Tamra @mabell just what winter months call for. 😃 14mo
Reggie I‘ve been bingeing Beat Bobby Flay and I swear every other dish has a nectarine, blood orange, some kinda citrus sauce. lol 14mo
Tamra @Reggie 😆 Sounds good to me! 13mo

We‘ve got one more daily photo challenge (sort of photo challenge) for #scarathlon my darling #skeletoncrew 🎃 in addition to the regularly scheduled #poetrymatters prompts for the month, @TheSpineView has made a Halloween spooky bingo board for us to play with!

I cannot wait to take part in this, it looks so fun

#2021WinterGames #FestivePhotoChallenge

#WrapItUp OK, I own this wrap cookbook & I just got home & was too tired to find it to see if it had a holiday wrap recipe, but wouldn‘t it be festive if it did? I grabbed this pic of one from online.

(Don‘t judge! My day was Orientation, torrential rain/flash flood alerts, finding out my tire was very flat, dashing to the tire repair place by work & sitting wet in a very cold waiting room for 2 hours.)😬

Chrissyreadit Survival is key! And you still found a book and image 🙌 3y
tpixie Wow! What a day you conquered 💖 3y
StayCurious Wow, you're a trooper! I think this pic is great and fun use of the prompt 3y

#14Books14Weeks2021 ...#7 (is is it 8?) How is it I am behind and I've still lost track lol. Anyway, I've been in a bit of an Ernest Hemingway phase for a couple of years so when I saw this book I knew I had to read it. Interesting. Odd. Insightful. Curious. Thought provoking. Perplexing. And more. I'm so glad I read this😊

Pickpick

I‘m tired of the heat wave - it‘s unusually hot & humid for June. 🥵 Instead of yard work, I‘m hiding inside making tortillas. I guess it‘s Taco Wednesday!

I like this unpretentious book with a wide variety of filling ideas.

Blueberry OMG, I love homemade tacos. 4y
Tamra @Blueberry this cookbook is helpful, maybe check it out from the library. 😋 4y
Blueberry Was this your first time? I've been told they are tricky at first. 4y
Tamra @Blueberry no and they are quite easy with the press. I‘ve never tried rolling them out, which might be more of a challenge. If I was more adept I‘d have two pans going to reduce the time it takes to cook them all. Give it a go! 4y

So...I had such high hopes for my reading goals for March.😒 But I wound up being busier this month than I planned and had some health challenges. 😷
Also still struggling with audio books, I really tried to get into a couple this month, but just can't do it, working from home.
LET'S HOPE APRIL IS BETTER!

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I hope your health & reading progress is better this month! 💜 4y
