This is my first time participating in #ALS. Look at this absolutely fabulous list from @DGRachel for #AuldLangSpine. I‘m having a hard time deciding on which to choose first and have placed all the pictured books on hold at the library. I am so excited to discover new authors and characters.

Thank you for hosting this wonderful event @monalyisha

KadaGul @Mollyanna Choosing a title is easy if you check out what‘s out there and think about what genre you‘re into. Hoopla has around 75-85% of the titles with no waiting lists, while Libby has about 85-95% available, but good luck with avoiding those holds! If you can grab a hard copy, go for it instead of digital—it‘ll save some space on your shelf. Hope this helps. I am debating between a digital copy and a hard copy. HARD COPY MIGHT BE THE WINNER🏆 3w
KadaGul @Mollyanna This is my second year, and I joined again 🔁 because I had a blast 🤩doing it last year. It's low-key and has no pressure reading challenge. 3w
Mollyanna @KadaGul I went with hard copy from my library. Just about all are ready for pick-up. I am still a print book fan. My library system just got Hoopla, and we only get 2 borrows. I love hearing all the positives about this event and am excited to participate. 3w

DGRachel I can‘t wait to hear what you think! Enjoy!! 2w
Mollyanna @DGRachel I am so excited! I did have one question, I love Broadway and am excited to read the book about the writing of Hadestown. Does it make a difference that I haven‘t seen the show in its entirety (I‘ve seen scenes/songs on Broadway variety shows)? 2w
DGRachel No, I don‘t think so. It breaks down how each song was created and edited to get to the final form. I downloaded the score (Spotify/Apple/Tidal) and then I would listen to the song and read the chapter. 2w
Mollyanna @DGRachel Perfect! Sounds like a great approach to appreciating the book. 2w

What a fascinating #AuldLangSpine2025 #ALS list from @JoeMo ! Titles in red are books I've already read. Titles in blue are books I already own, so I will likely start with one of them in January.

Title in green is already on my TBR. I'm intrigued by the book about Siskel and Ebert. Honest disclosure: I don't intend to read anything with the words “Donald“ or “Trump in it for the rest of my life, if I can manage it. 😖 So probably not #14.

TheBookHippie Solidarity on that. 🚫🙈🙉⛔️ 3w
Amiable @TheBookHippie The Land of Denial is going to be my temporary residence for the next few years. 3w
TheBookHippie @Amiable I wish I could. 3w
Megabooks The Alberta is an amazing book! I hope you get to it! 3w

No Two Persons: A Novel | Erica Bauermeister

This book 😍 I have been wanting to read it since it was published and I‘m so glad #ALSpine finally got me to. This is my favorite form of writing: one novel made up of short stories that connect. It worked so well. I was equally intrigued by all characters and wondering how the story would weave kept me from putting it down. Another #ALS book to probably make my top of the year. I‘m just going to stick to #ALS books to ensure great reads!

JamieArc I also loved how this story came full circle. We saw how Alice‘s story impacted people, and at the very end, when Alice saw the wings made of book pages, and THIS is what finally inspired her to think of a new story - so brilliant that it ended with Alice being inspired by her own book, unbeknownst to her! 12mo
yourfavouritemixtape So glad you liked it! I think it‘s my top book from last year. And I still think about some of the stories even now. 12mo
JamieArc @yourfavouritemixtape This one snuck into my heart. I have a feeling I‘ll be thinking about it for a long time. 12mo

This book was 11 years in the making and I think it would have been incredibly hard to write an unbiased account of all the players in Roe v Wade. I think Prager did that. It is long. I listened on audio, got lost a couple of times and cringed a bit at some of the descriptions. It is complete account of the woman behind Roe, her family and children as well as the religious leaders and politicians of the time. Another great pick from my #ALS list

Amiable I'm so glad you liked it! It is a complicated story and I thought Prager told it completely and well. (edited) 2y

I often have the reading version of “my eyes are bigger than my stomach,” so I didn‘t read near as many as I had wanted, but I‘m really happy with what I did read (and look forward to finishing the #ALS list throughout the year!). The tagged was a standout. Keegan‘s work settles deep in my heart. And Wayward, I have a lot of thinking to do about. I really enjoyed getting to know you @monalyisha and reading your faves of 2022. Thanks for hosting ⬇️

JamieArc SUCH A GREAT LITSY EVENT. (Caps intended 😆) 2y
monalyisha Ha! Thanks for the message — and for the caps! I‘m just so glad my recs hit their mark. It‘s such a good feeling when someone loves the same words as you. Happy February (& beyond)! 2y

Wayward | Dana Spiotta

Wayward felt like a snapshot of 2016. I didn‘t necessarily want to go back to those days - they give me anxiety 🙃. I finished this last night, and it‘s going to take time to process before adequately reviewing. It poked at uncomfortable points - who I am and who I will be as a white woman, mother/daughter relationships, etc. Lily‘s home felt like respite for me as a reader, as it was for Sam and Ally. I‘ll be thinking about this for a while. #ALS

monalyisha Yes! It was definitely a literary experience. “Uncomfortable” is a good word. Thanks for reminding me about Lily‘s house, which was the opposite of “uncomfortable.” ❤️‍🩹 2y
SamAnne Loved this one. Yes, an uncomfortable read. (edited) 2y

Foster | Claire Keegan

Keegan‘s books are different than any I have read. They contain multitudes: small but mighty, dealing with hard issues but somehow leave me feeling calm and peaceful. Characters who are every day people but have such depth to them. They are stories that stick with me. Foster is no different. I also appreciate some of her male characters - they aren‘t perfect but they are good. I hope there are many more small books to add to my Keegan collection.

JamieArc #ALS #AuldLangSpine @monalyisha I‘m so glad we traded Keegan books on our lists ❤️ 2y
monalyisha I‘m happy this was a satisfying second read from her oeuvre! I haven‘t gotten to yours yet but still plan to. So much more goodness to come, I‘m sure! Thanks again for being my partner! 2y
