I'm in my #happyplace enjoying some genuine quiet time. As in, not only am I the only one up, but, the quiet up here is truly quiet. There is NO noise. Heavenly.
I don't expect to get through all of these books but it would be nice.

Finished this little beauty after a wonderful massage at my gym and spa (sadly v bad shoulder ) This book is the reason book sellers are so IMPORTANT i was recommended this book by a lovely chap in Mr B‘s book emporium in Bath , never heard of Thomas Edison (omg WHY? WHAT?) not only is this one of the best stories Iv ever ever read but the writing ✍️ my goodness it‘s done by a true author a person with a real gift ,
With vibes of the Clint Eastwood & Shirley MacLaine film, a Mule for sister Sarah , a short novella excellent writing so far ☺️
This is Everett‘s collection of short stories about the West. I didn‘t particularly love the book, and none of to the stories are a must read, but I was entertained throughout. My faves included The Day Comes, which had a suspenseful ending, and Wrong Lead about a horse trainer and riding instructor who mistakenly becomes enmeshed with one of his student‘s romantic lives. I think Everett‘s novels seem more impactful than his shorts.
My current read for my IRL book club and it‘s so good! It‘s one of my favourite niche genres: the “reinvented western”.

A little under-the-weather this weekend with an allergy/asthma flare-up, I‘ve spent most of the day sleeping. Childhood Saturdays with my dad were my inspiration for today‘s haiku. He helped make me a reader & movie buff, even if I don‘t love westerns the way he did. Miss him, always. Happy Father‘s Day💚
Pipe smoke, faded books,
cowboys ride through black and white,
Dad beside me still
I read James last year and am reading more of Everett‘s books this month for #authoramonth. If this book of stories doesn‘t prove the versatility of Everett than nothing will. The stories are set in cold cowboy country. A man tries to save a girl surrounded by rattlers, an old woman rides off to what seems like heaven, and a father and daughter go on a quarrelsome hike but they bond over an unfortunate event. A mystery box is, well, mysterious. ⬇️
I‘m still reading The Trees (so good) by this author but getting close to the end so I‘ve checked out two more of his books from Libby. I may like Trees better than James, which I read last year. What an author!! #authoramonth @Soubhiville
