Station Eleven: A novel | Emily St. John Mandel
post image
Pickpick

From the three books I read by this author, I will say I liked more this one. There were still parts I found repetitive or unnecessary. But wow! at the beginning it was like a flashback to the pandemic situation😳 There were sad parts as expected due to the pandemic situation. I think it was well integrated those elements of what happened in the past and the present through those interviews with Kirsten. I like post apocalyptic topics in novels⬇️

Gissy I liked the way the author described that chaos we expect in this type of topic.
Is there a movie based on this novel? If not, it will be a good for a screen adaptation. 3.8/4⭐️

Bluebird Great progress! How did you create the 5x5 grid on Pic collage? I never found one, so have been using a workaround with myfreebingocards.com instead. Would much prefer to use Pic collage though. 1y

The woman in white | Wilkie COLLINS

I enjoyed this classic. It was written in 1859. I consider it a gothic mystery. The reader follows along from each person's view of where they were when it happened. It's the first classic I have read in a long time and I enjoyed stepping back in time to see how society was during that time.

Finished listening to it with one day to spare🙂

Nine Perfect Strangers | Liane Moriarty

#NinePerfectStrangers #LianeMoriarity #NewYearSpecial #20in4 #Readathon #BookSpinBongo #December2021

Started this early in the month and wanted to finish it before year‘s end. Nine people are at a remote health resort for 10 days and don‘t realize how their lives will be changed. It started out slow but got very interesting towards the end. This is a character-driven story which led to a tv series. Definitely a study of human behavior. Amusing!

Stay Close | Harlan Coben

Megan Pierce is a soccer mom with two kids and a perfect husband but a bit wild in her younger days. Ray Levine is a documentary photographer and at age forty he finds himself in a dead-end job. Jack Broome is a detective who is working on a cold case of a local husband and father who disappeared 17 years ago.

EadieB These are 3 lives that will crash together and their hidden secrets from the past will explode and they will find out that there is a fine line between one kind of life and another.
I have read most of Coben's books and I love his humor and wit. His characters are always very colorfully-filled with flaws and secrets. His plots are interesting with lots of twists and turns.

EadieB This one was a bit of a slow-burner and could have been a bit shorter but it did keep me engaged. I was surprised at the killer but there were clues along the way. This book proved once again that Coben is the master of domestic suspense. I look forward to reading some of his other standalones that I haven't read yet. 3y

I Know You | Claire McGowan

Rachel finds a body in the woods and is considered a prime suspect because the victim is identified as her boyfriend's estranged wife. 20 years ago, Rachel was Casey, a young nanny trying to make it as an actress in Los Angeles. The family she worked for were brutally murdered and all the evidence pointed to her and she went to prison.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 3y
EadieB She narrowly escaped the death penalty and managed to free herself on appeal and changed her name to Rachel. Now she‘s fighting to save the life she‘s spent years putting back together. Was her discovery in the woods really just a coincidence, or is someone framing her for murder? Someone who knows she is Casey, and wants revenge. This book is a hard-to-put-down page turner with interesting characters. 3y
EadieB The chapters switch back and forth from 20 years ago to the present. The suspense builds with surprising twists. It kept me guessing until the very end. I have read and enjoyed all of McGowan's books including her Paula Maguire series except for the Killing House which I will be reading very soon. I would like to thank NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for a free copy for an honest review. 3y

1860. This is a true story of the historical battle for women's mental health rights. Elizabeth Packard's husband of twenty-one years feels increasingly threatened by Elizabeth's intellect, independence, and unwillingness to stifle her own thoughts. He makes plans to put his wife back in her place by committing her to an insane asylum. There are many rational women on her ward who have been committed in order to keep them in line.

EadieB Elizabeth's refusal to be silenced and her ceaseless quest for justice challenged the medical science of the day, and led to a giant leap forward in women's human rights. I enjoyed this book but thought it could be shorter as it repeated facts too many times. If you enjoy stories about forgotten women of history, then you will enjoy this book. 3y
