(2000) There's disappointingly little math here for a book titled “The Geometry of Love.“ But it's interesting for what it is: a discussion of a church, Sant'Agnese Fuori la mura near Rome, from as many perspectives as possible, ranging from architecture and art history to theology, hagiography, folklore, and personal response. It's interesting and occasionally fascinating. A bit unfocused for me, but arguably that's the point. Also: no pictures?
The lovely @Texreader has reached a milestone! And she is kind enough to have a Giveaway. Check her page for details.
What I like most about Litsy is the community of book lovers. Everyone is so very kind and welcoming. I don‘t know how many times I have called many of you, when talking to others, my book friends. Because you are.
People who include sightseeing in their travels can scarcely avoid visiting churches.

📖 No Unhallowed Hand (The Work and the Glory 7) by Gerald Lund
“Christians, especially ministers, so often think they must always contribute something when they‘re in the company of others, that this is the one service they have to render. They forget that listening can be a greater service than speaking. Many people are looking for an ear that will listen. He who can no longer listen to his brother will soon be no longer listening to God either. This is the beginning of the death of the spiritual life.”
It took longer to read than it should have, but it was well worth it. If you‘re looking for a guide to being a better church member, this is an excellent resource. John Owen backs everything up with scripture so you aren‘t left wondering whether the points are truly biblical. Highly recommend! This is part of my personal challenge to read more nonfiction this year. #2025nfbookchallenge
I absolutely loved this book. As someone who has been in the church, my whole life and gained much from it, I love the idea of slowing down and getting back to what really matters.
This was my first intro to Amy-Jill Levine, and I‘m definitely planning to read more from her. How can you not read on when the intro begins with the sentence: “When I was a child, my ambition was to be pope.” 😂 This, from a Jewish New Testament scholar.
Levine offers a fresh, much-needed perspective on Jesus and his New Testament context. She emphasizes that Christians tend to interpret the New Testament solely through the context of the ⤵️
4⭐️ I quite liked this book. Very introspective and informative. There were a number of things I liked about the book; would like to purchase a paperback copy when it comes out. And he mentions what he intended to say in regards to the Nikki Haley comment that lead to his firing #2024 #memoir #religion #nonfiction #politics
I like the tagged book, too. 😉 Haven't read it, but I listen to the Gettys. 5d
