I don‘t usually seek out self help books, but this book helped me to start unpacking my belief that clean house = good person. It‘s not nearly that simple or easy.

Unraveling where I learned that also helped start me on a self examination journey that, I hope, has made me a better person.

#SundayFunday Have a wonderful day, and don‘t forget to tag me.

ChaoticMissAdventures I follow her on Tiktok, I really like how she focuses on cleanliness not being a moral issue. You are not a "bad person" if your home isn't spotless, that sort of thing. 1mo
TreenaReads I read a bunch of parenting books when my son was born, Generally, I don‘t get much out of them. 1mo
konlitsy I generally don't feel drawn to self-help books. Even when I attempt to read them, I usually only get through the first two chapters. For self-help, I sometimes listen to the Bhagavad Gita.

Kerrbearlib Oh wow, I need to read this. Cleaning has always been a struggle for me due to my ADHD & CPTSD. It‘s something I‘ve been deeply ashamed of and it‘s had a negative impact on my self-esteem. I‘m trying to unlearn the negative messages that were drilled into me (“You‘re lazy!” was a common one). Maybe a book like this would help. (edited) 1mo
BookmarkTavern @Kerrbearlib It helped me a lot. I especially loved the audiobook. It felt like sitting down with a friend. 1mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just what I needed to help motivate me to make my space work for myself and to help remove the shame around having a “messy” house or not keeping it clean enough 100% of the time, which makes me feel like a failure.

Short and fast paced. Recommended to me by a non-litsy friend.

#catsoflitsy Hazel being my reading buddy

I did not touch my Penman book this weekend.

“How to Keep House While Drowning“ was absolutely amazing. I feel seen-this book is written not only for those with ADHD, but those struggling with depression, anxiety, and daily pain. This is one of those books I want a copy of!

I bailed on the “Silence“ book. I laid it down and did everything but pick it up on Saturday-back it goes.

I will admit that I‘m not the person who this book is meant for as I‘m generally pretty good at keeping my house neat. That being said, I agree with her advice to start small like doing the dishes every day. I find her decluttering advice is more helpful so I like her other book just focused on that better. She does also get repetitive at times, which happens when you convert a blog to a book. Bonus pic is my boy Happy just loving the sun ☀️

This is a great book if you are having trouble with your day-to-day house chores, or if you are depressed and feel like every small task is a mountain. I'm not at that stage right now. So it wasn't what I was looking for. My stuff is tucked into cupboards and closets, under beds and inside storage containers. My house is clean. It is NOT organized. I want to purge the house of everything unnecessary. This book made me feel like I'm doing great.🙈

lil1inblue This is a good one to keep on hand in case you need it. I went through some health issues for several years, and this was a life saver.
And you ARE doing great! 😉

ItsAnotherJen @lil1inblue 🥰 Thank you!! I do think think this book has great merit. I will keep it in mind as something to recommend to those who might need it. I think I need to look more into the philosophy behind death cleaning. There is so much to be gained from letting go of excess belongings. I haven't had to move in 20 years, so I've accumulated too much. 3mo
Scochrane26 Therapists in my agency recommend this one a lot to clients. It‘s not for everyone but good for certain people. 3mo

Schnoebs I felt the same way, I did end up following this up with the tagged book. It made me rethink why I‘m holding on to certain things. I‘m honestly thinking about rereading it at some point to make me reevaluate things again. 3mo
Kitta Ive been on the waiting list for this one from Libby for a long time. Why is it so popular right now? 3mo
Reggie Omg, dishes, I leave them for a week and as soon as I do them, they‘re back. I absolutely hate them. lol maybe this book will help me out. Stacked. 3mo
ItsAnotherJen @Schnoebs I'm reading that one right now!! It's exactly what I needed too. 3mo
ItsAnotherJen @Kitta It's the time of year-New Years resolutions are a big deal right now. Organization and getting rid of stuff is one of mine and I think a lot of people are in the same boat. 3mo
Sparklemn The author had an opinion piece in The NY Times last week if anyone is interested in reading it. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/01/opinion/celebrating-messiness.html?unlocked_a... 3mo
Kitta @ItsAnotherJen ahhh okay yeah that makes sense then, I forgot somehow? 😅 My library has 85 people waiting. I think I could use it so I‘ll read it. (edited) 3mo
Kitta @Sparklemn thank you! 3mo
ItsAnotherJen @Sparklemn Thank you for the article rec! I can't embrace my messiness right now though, I need to embrace throwing away or donating things. 😬 I think it would be so liberating to own less🎉🎉 3mo
willaful Oh, I highly recommend Dana White's books. She has really practical advice on how to get read of stuff. 2mo
ItsAnotherJen @willaful I read that one this month too! I'm on my 5th book about organizing. It's motivating to listen to them on audiobook format while decluttering. 2mo

An interesting look at decluttering. This takes a different approach to many other books of similar style and yet it's a method that could work. I liked the simplicity of it and can see myself using some of the tips featured in it especially the dishes as seen by my clear worktop. 3*

DogMomIrene She definitely keeps cleaning in good perspective. I‘m a perfectionist so shifting from the desire to have the perfectly cleaned home like it‘s a one and done kind of task to the more realistic view that cleaning is an ongoing task, everyday, was really helpful for me. 3mo
kezzlou85 @DogMomIrene she does we've just moved to a bigger house and it can feel overwhelming at times but this book helped put it back in perspective for me. 3mo
DogMomIrene @kezzlou85 If you want a refresh on her big ideas in another 6 months or year, check out . There‘s much less explanation of her ideas so it‘s less repetitive. It cuts to the point. 3mo
kezzlou85 @DogMomIrene thank you so much. I will check that out. 3mo

Short tips and techniques to keep your house clean. Found some useful ones in there but would need to figure out the English equivalent to some of these. Not the most festive but a library hold and got a line in bingo. #WinterGames2024 55pts #HolidayBookDragons @LiseWorks

I wouldn't have picked this one up if it wasn't for @sebrittainclark 's #AuldLangSpine list but I'm glad I did! This was a really helpful and encouraging book on how to keep your home livable without stressing yourself out more. I don't have ADHD or depression, which is a big focus of the author's life, but anyone can relate to feeling overwhelmed by everyday tasks and she provides useful manageable tips

It‘s amazing the power of hearing that you‘re not alone in your sense of drowning. Life is still a struggle, but Davis‘ words have given me hope, courage, and even skills to help work my way through it. The practical advice provided is actual advice that can help with setting priorities, getting through life tasks that can be or seem overwhelming, and realizing/accepting that you are not a failure for not maintaining an Insta worthy environment.
