I‘m posting one of this at the beginning and one when I‘m done for motivation. It‘s taking me forever to get to 😫. #embroidery

Yes, I'm reading random Georgian satirical pamphlets. I'm actually trying to trace a long chain of anonymous plagiarism, after a snide remark in Derenzy's Enchiridion about a cravat pamphlet. This one came much later, and is stolen from a French satirist. But that's okay, because I think he stole it from an Englishman before him. Anyway, it's all very silly and yet still has real and interesting insight into 1820s men's fashion.
4/5⭐ As a reference it's wonderfully informative with tons of illustrations and photos. The author uses muslin to demonstrate so many variations of gathering, shirring, ruffles, flounces, godets, pleating, smocking, tucking, cording, quilting, stuffing, and darts. She also shows how combinations of these methods can be used to produce beautiful patterns in creative projects. I can see why this book is recommended in crafting circles so often.

1. Hedwig and the Angry inch by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask (saw live 3 times, seen the movie many times)
2. Moulin Rouge from Baz Luhrmann (haven't seen the stage show yet 😕)
3. The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh (saw in a church attic in Philadelphia with John Lithgow's son in the lead role)
I created my own #readingbracket2024, and my January pick is The Hero's Closet!
4.5/5⭐ I'm impressed by how thorough this book is on how to make costumes; the instructions can also be used for making clothing in general. I'll probably still need to watch videos on some of the techniques, but overall the descriptions and images are clear. The book provides patterns and instructions for basic pieces that can be combined and altered to create the most common costumes/cosplays, along with details for making those alterations.
