#RealmofElderlings book is Royal Assassin. Aim is to have this I've read by the end of April and then move on to the last book in the Farseer Trilogy

How is everyone finding it? I haven't started my re-read yet 🤣

majkia I'm about half way through. Painful in parts, particulary because it's a re-read and I know what happens. Otherwise, still fascinating and wonderfully written. So emotional, for SFF. 3d

Enchanted_Bibliophile I'm starting tomorrow 🎉 3d
Luke-XVX Yet to start it! Been caught up with life etc. attention span has wavered a lot this month so mostly graphic novels reads 3d
daena I‘m a little past the half way mark. Enjoying it thoroughly! 3d
kelli7990 I haven‘t started it yet. I‘m still reading Assassin‘s Apprentice. I‘m hoping to make more progress in Assassin‘s Apprentice since I‘ve been busy reading other books. 3d
willaful I got bogged down in the first book, not sure I'll progress. :-( 3d
PuddleJumper @majkia The anticipation of pain is very real 3d
PuddleJumper @Luke-XVX I get that 3d
PuddleJumper @daena Brilliant! 3d
PuddleJumper @kelli7990 Sounds good! 3d
PuddleJumper @willaful If Farseer Trilogy isn't to your liking then comeback for Liveship Traders. It's very different and I prefer this trilogy 3d

I couldn't find a second hand copy of Royal Assassin for our #RealmOfElderlings read along, so I got an illustrated e-book
And I'm so impressed with the illustrations 🤩
The map, 🗺️ so I don't spoil anything.

 @PuddleJumper

PuddleJumper I'm glad more ebooks are adding in illustrations like maps. It's so necessary for some books 1w
Enchanted_Bibliophile @PuddleJumper I absolutely agree. But the rest of these illustrations are just as awesome 😎 I just don't want to spoil anything by sharing them 4d

I‘m still reading the tagged book for #realmofelderlings. I‘ve started it but I don‘t know when I‘ll get back to reading it because I started reading The Starless Sea and it‘s longer than this book. I‘m borrowing The Starless Sea from Libby but I need to read it fast because it‘s due in 10 days. The due date is March 19. I have plenty of time but I like returning books early as soon as I finish them so the next person can start reading the book.

I originally read this book in 2019. It was and still is the only book I‘ve read by Robin Hobb. Because I read this so long ago, I didn‘t remember a thing about it! So it was like reading a new book to me. I enjoyed it just as much this time as I did last time, but this time I plan to actually continue the series.

PuddleJumper That cover is so 80/90s 1mo
Laughterhp @PuddleJumper my copy is so old! The cover is literally peeling off. 1mo

I am ready! I might read the 1990s edition as I've cracked the spine and it's already well read

I want to read the Rick Riordan books. I might split it up because it is long. Read other books in-between rather than trying to read it all at once

The first ¾ of this book are very slow and then it speeds up at the end.

It's the recollections of a royal bastard starting from when he was very young. His memories become clearer as he becomes older, though not always.

Fitz is not a reliable narrator. Whether that is deliberate or because memories are fallible. It's interesting to grow alongside him and learn what he finds value in and the people and events that shaped him.

PuddleJumper It can be confusing at times because you're being introduced to this fantasy world and its fantasy politics through a man remembering his childhood.

Author Fitz does not include much context for the reader. I liked this. It felt authentic to the narrative and I can respect a character that is more interested in their dog's wellbeing than the favour currying at court especially when said character is a child.

PuddleJumper That said, I do understand why some people find this book boring. Having re-read it for the first time in years, I think I would recommend people to start with the Liveship Traders trilogy which is much easier to get into even though they are chonky books!

PuddleJumper I totally forgot I won this from Goodreads back when giveaways were available on the UK 1mo
Rachel.Rencher @PuddleJumper I started with Liveship Traders and I'm so glad I did! I'm on Royal Assassin now, but I might not have gotten this far had I not started with book 4. 1mo
PuddleJumper @Rachel.Rencher Liveship Traders are some of my favourite books. I do think they are more accessible than the Farseer Trilogy, maybe more traditional fantasy. I originally read them first which got me into the series. I don't think I would have gotten through Assassin's Apprentice the first time around if it was my first book. 1mo

repost for @PuddleJumper:

Royal Assassin is the second book in the Farseer Trilogy #RealmofElderlings

How is everyone feeling about the series so far?

I‘ve got about 50 pages left of Assassin‘s Apprentice will hopefully get it finished this week. I‘m excited and a little intimidated by the second book. Been an age since I‘ve read anything that long and I think it‘s going to hurt but also fuck yeah my favourite character!

Enchanted_Bibliophile Exited! 🤩 I still have 90 pages left of Assassin's Apprentice, but I'll definitely finish it this week. Then I have to go on a hunt for a physical copy of Royal Assassin. I have the ebook, but I'd like to have a book to do annotations in. 1mo

daena I also have about 50 or so pages left. This is my second read and I love it even more this time around. Looking forward to starting the next book! (edited) 1mo
kelli7990 I like what I‘ve read from the first book so far but I haven‘t made any more progress in it and I haven‘t finished it yet. Maybe I‘ll finish next month. 1mo
Luke-XVX I felt like Fitz grew up far too quickly, I‘d have loved a couple of hundred more pages haha 1mo

I‘m going to be participating in the #realmofelderlings readalong hosted by PuddleJumper. I just finished a book club book I was reading and now, I‘m ready to start this book next. I won‘t finish it this month but I want to at least start it. This kinda sounds like A Song Of Ice And Fire because ASOIAF has a bastard named Jon Snow and this series has a bastard named Fitz and both series have kingdoms and knights and things like that.

kelli7990 I‘ve read A Song Of Ice And Fire and I really liked it so it pissed me off when it ended on a cliffhanger and I‘ve accepted that it might not get finished but I‘m curious to see if I‘ll like this series better than that one. This is my first time reading the series so I‘ll just have to see what I think. I‘ve heard good things about it. (edited) 2mo
