Chapter 6: we meet Mrs Cadwallader, who seems to have her nose in everyone‘s business! #towngossip #wantsdodoandjamesmarried #movedontocelia #fickle #mrsjennings #typecasting #pemberlittens

AnnR It seems many of the characters have really strong (or overbearing) personalities so far. 1y
BarkingMadRead @Ann_Reads so many strong personalities! 1y
Bookwormjillk I kind of loved her but admit I zoned out when George went on for pages about her personality/background. Sir James was kind of funny too. Like when you fall flat on your face but realize nobody saw it so it doesn‘t hurt as bad. That‘s him and the Dodo non-proposal. 1y
Bklover @Bookwormjillk I think you nailed it. I kind of laughed at Mr Brooke‘s discomfort at having to talk to Codwallader. He does seem sort of uncomfortable with any sort of feminine energy, not to mention our lack of brains 🙄. Sir James certainly recovered quickly from the news of Dodo‘s engagement. Did anyone back then marry for love?? 1y
kspenmoll A nosy Parker! Well meaning? ! Ha. Or just wants to be in the know. I had to laugh when she rushed to tell Sr. James that Dodo was marrying that old C. I love the name: Codwallader. And putting a plug in for Celia… 1y
CoffeeNBooks Why was she so concerned with Dorothea marrying Chettam to begin with? Was it just her wanting to be successful at match-making? I can't see that she'd gain anything else from that union. I guess that's why she's aiming her sights on Celia as a match for him now. And could Mr. Brooke say any more times how very little our lady-brains can handle?! 😳 It's like he has to constantly remind everyone how much smarter he is than everyone else. 😨 1y
ravenlee I‘m catching up now, and just snort-laughed at this exchange: “He has one foot in the grave.” “He means to draw it out again, I suppose.” 1y
julieclair @ravenlee Me too. I thought that exchange was hysterical! 1y
LitStephanie @ravenlee yes lots of good little jibes like that in this book. 1y

Pickpick

Thank you to @Cortg for this fabulous book recommendation ❤️1. Jason Reynolds is the BEST medicine for a migraine....his voice is soothing & lyrical...I will listen to him all day, everyday 🙌🏻2. Trevor Noah you have some VERY tough competition...my #mancrush has just shifted... 3. The ending of this novel 😡😝 took it from five stars to four but still a 5 ⭐️ narration 4. Poetry rocks 😎5. Random thoughts are awesome 6.Migraines suck 🤕

Hooked_on_books I actually found the ending somewhat ambiguous. Which of course can be good or bad depending on your point of view. I hope he didn‘t end up doing it. 6y
Cinfhen I agree; it was too ambiguous @Hooked_on_books which is why I didn‘t like it😡I don‘t like loose ends...and I‘m thinking he did not go through with it #optimist 😁 6y
Cortg Yay! I‘m glad you enjoyed it! BTW, Trevor Noah is writing a 2nd memoir 😉 6y

tonyahoswalt I feel for you. I have chronic migraines, and am coming down from a three day one that was one of the worst yet, and I've been having them for years. On the topic of the book, I've been wanting to read this. Maybe I'll put it on hold today. 6y
Tamra Book is so so good. Migraine is so so bad. 😫 (edited) 6y
Cinfhen Sorry you suffer from migraines @tonyahoswalt 😢I usually get to my meds before it blows up but this time I was too late @AmyG @4thhouseontheleft 😝audiobook really saved me because there was no way I was reading print! I really recommend this one on #audio ❣️❣️❣️ 6y

ElishaLovesBooks I hope you‘re feeling better! At first I really disliked the ending because I hate loose ends too. But I then I thought about the awesome discussions that could come from the not knowing and I felt better about it 😊😉 6y
Cinfhen Yes, I can see how this would make for great discussion...I love that u read this with your class🙌🏻💚 @ElishaLovesBooks 6y
