Unfortunately most of these short stories didn't work for me. Although the book did start off on a good note, the quirk soon wore off and things just got weird.

emilyhaldi There were definitely some delightful little bits in there @Cinfhen but some (like the bookclub story) had me scratching my head. Could be partially bc I listened ok audio and found myself losing concentration here and there. 6y

Mdargusch I went to hear Juliette Wells speak about Jane Austen and she said this edition as well as the Emma she annotated was a good way to get acquainted with her books. @MaGoose @lahousewyfe 6y

MaGoose @Mdargusch @lahousewyfe I've read most of Austen's books back in the late nineties. I took a course about her when I was in college. But I now want to re-read her stuff. Of course the prof couldn't see some of the subliminal tongue-in-cheek fun she was poking at the culture of the times. But anyway, very good reading! 6y

CGKOENS Yep, @BookHoarder32, Johnny Lee Miller has played Mr. Knightley as well as Edmund in Mansfield Park (excellent version!), and he's currently playing Sherlock Holmes in Elementary...and I really like him in all three roles! 🙂 6y

I was so excited for this one, then Gertrude knocked it in the bathtub and I had to wait for it to dry out. 😬🙈 I finally got to read it and . . . it wasn‘t worth the wait. Sarah and Eddie meet and instantly fall in love. After a whirlwind week, he leaves with a promise to call right away, but never does. Sarah is left to wonder why. The twists were surprising to me, but the characters were boring. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thousand-Lives Bummer! I was worried this one might fall flat. It‘s next in line in my BOTM tbr stack. I honestly only chose it because Liane Moriarty had a blurb on the cover. 6y

These lines of Tennyson‘s from his poem Maud stick in my head. It sounds so beautiful to think that her lover is waiting for her in the garden and the flowers are waiting too, whispering to him.

Ive taken this prompt in a lighter vein than most BUT this poem does have a Duel, three Deaths and Plenty of Despair in it!
