Recursion | Blake Crouch
post image

This is the #LSFBC book that was picked for this month. Before being accepted for the ARC I‘m reading now, I was going to start reading this but maybe I‘ll have time to read it next if I finish reading the ARC I‘m currently reading before the end of the month. If I do end up starting this book before the end of the month, I‘ll finish it next month but if I don‘t have time to read it this month then I can read it next month. I do want to read it.

sblbooks This was a five-star read for me. I need to read Dark Matter, I haven't read that one yet. 4d

I could sum this book up as an Indian Jones wanna be in a SciFi setting. I liked the idea but I thought the execution was all wrong. It felt like the characters rushed from one heist to the next with something always going wrong in between and yet it was too quickly resolved. I think less scenes and more time spent struggling to find a resolution would have worked better. I also thought some of the interactions between

CSeydel I‘m about two-thirds in and I honestly can‘t tell yet whether this will be a “pick” for me. I felt it started a little too tedious, but once they went to space and the plot got going, I enjoyed it more. It doesn‘t bother me that they are chasing the MacGuffin all over the galaxy, but right now it feels like she‘s set up a lot of loose ends and my ultimate review will depend on how well they‘re resolved. 1mo
CSeydel I‘m listening to the audio and the narrator is terrific. I think it‘s also enhancing my enjoyment that I‘m listening together with my 23-year old son and we‘ve had some interesting discussions as we go along 1mo
CatLass007 @CSeydel I think that‘s awesome! I frequently listen with my cats, but they‘re not exactly great conversationalists. I have listened with others on occasion and it does enhance the experience most of the time. I think it would make it extra special to listen with my godson or one of my other nephews. I have a great niece, but she‘s 10 1/2. I don‘t think she‘s really gonna sit down long enough to listen to a book just yet. 1mo
CatLass007 There were things that I liked about the character, interactions and things that I didn‘t. Finding common ground with other human beings is difficult enough. Finding common ground with a member of an entirely different species with no real single frame of reference would be near impossible. I think the author shows that and I think that her characters managed to work through many of those difficulties together. 1mo
CSeydel @CatLass007 It‘s certainly helped me flesh out my thoughts on the premise, characters and plot. We got on a roll last night speculating about what‘s really going on! 1mo
CatLass007 Please let me know what the two of you think when you finish. If you remember, that is. 1mo
julesG It's been a while since I read the book. Some things didn't make sense to me (like winning space fights against all odds) and I felt like a lot of information was missing - it could have been a book in a series where I hadn't read the previous books. I still enjoyed it, but I wanted more fleshed out characters. 1mo
julesG Well, I guess I wanted more in general. Like another book, more heists. 😂 1mo
Karisimo I haven‘t quite finished yet, but I‘m listening to it and wondered-is the author using made up pronouns? I‘m guessing this is more clear in print! 1mo
TheSpineView @Karisimo I didn't think about it while I was reading. However, now that you point it out, they might be. 1mo
CSeydel @Karisimo Yes, she uses two separate sets of neopronouns for two characters: xe/xyr for Auncle and ey/eir for Greg. 3w
Karisimo @CSeydel thanks for explaining! 2w

Recursion | Blake Crouch

It was a tie between Recursion and Mickey7. I've read both, so I didn't care either way. l tossed a coin (literally) and the winner is Recursion. If you guys want, we can read Mickey7 in July. Just let me know your thoughts.

kelli7990 Yay! I‘ve been wanting to read this book. I‘ve had this book on my Goodreads TBR since 2019. I‘ve never read anything by Blake Crouch. 1mo

TheSpineView @kelli7990 I enjoyed it and look forward to the reread. Hope you enjoy too. 1mo
RaeLovesToRead Recursion is amazing and I can't wait to re-read before reading Upgrade and Run! 1mo
PaperbackPirate Great! I loved Dark Matter! 📖💙 1mo
CatLass007 Recursion sounds great. I‘m down to a 10-week wait for Mickey7 so I‘ve moved up a bit since I put in my hold. Ten weeks is looking more like August than July but I will read it. 1mo
RamsFan1963 I have Recursion on my TBR shelf/shelves, so I'm good with that for June 1mo
OriginalCyn620 Can I jump in on this one? I had this one on my list for this month, but I didn‘t get to it. I‘ve only read Dark Matter and I loved it, so I really want to read more of this author! 1mo
TheSpineView @OriginalCyn620 Sure. Happy to have you join us. 1mo
TheSpineView @RaeLovesToRead I enjoyed Upgrade but still need to read Run. 1mo
TheSpineView @RamsFan1963 Good timing then! 1mo
OriginalCyn620 @TheSpineView Thanks…should be fun reading it with a group! 1mo
Roary47 I put my hold in. I‘d love to read Mickey7 with the group too. 🥰 1mo
TheSpineView @Roary47 Awesome! 1mo
CaroPi @TheSpineView hello. Can you please remove me from the list? Due to personal reasons I am unable to participate 🙁. 3w

Roary47 Ooo Mickey 7!! 😍😍 I just got that one from Audible so I can watch the movie. 💛💛 1mo
TheSpineView @Roary47 I liked the book but the movie was a waste of my time. It was just one big political statement and didn't follow the book. It did horrible in the box office. 1mo

RamsFan1963 @TheSpineView When they changed the name from Mikey 7 to Mikey 17, I knew it was going to be bad. I guess they wanted to kill him 10 more times to make it more dramatic. 1mo
RamsFan1963 I'll vote for the book I nominated 1mo
TheSpineView @RamsFan1963 It was bad. 😬 1mo

MaleficentBookDragon I‘ll second the nomination of 1mo
julesG I've read Mickey 7 and Station Eternity. Nominating 1mo
RaeLovesToRead I'm planning on re-reading Recursion by Blake Crouch soon and that's a 5-star book if you fancy that one. Also Lost Ark Dreaming by Suyi Davies Okungbowa (may be more cli-fi but I've heard great things). 1mo
RaeLovesToRead A couple of other suggestions for this month / future months - Toward Eternity by Anton Hur - and Seven Devils by Lam & May (for something more space-based)! 1mo
RamsFan1963 I'll nominate something I've nominated before 1mo
CatLass007 I will second the only suggestion I‘ve seen that I can borrow from the library without a wait. 1mo

I currently have four books I am working on (top row). I hope to finish at least two books this week.

Next up will be Mrs. Bradshaw's Handbook for #OokBookClub @julesG and The Stardust Grail for #LitsySciFiBookClub #LSFBC

julesG Mrs Bradshaw's should be a quick read. 1mo
