I feel quite disappointed that I'm only just getting around to her work this late in life. Thank goodness, I've started now.
Anyway, let's talk about Night and Day?
☕️ Did you enjoy Woolf's intricate examination of romantic entanglements in 1920s London?
☕️ Did you like her characters? Does anyone stand out?
☕️ Do you think Woolf captured the changing societal times of post war England?
#Naturalitsy
Only 2 books remaining this year!! Our November #buddyread is Mabey's The Cabaret of Plants, exploring the encounters between people and plants.

What are your plans for our communal #Hyggehour readathon?
We've just had a cosy family movie watching The Boy and the Heron. Now, to choose a new book to settle in for a cosy read.
@TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit
I've just listened to this amazing series of essays by Katherine Rundell, exploring what writing and stories mean to us from childhood through to adulthood.
Hugely enjoyable.

My #Hyggehour consisted of winding down after a lovely beef stew, sipping valerian tea and reading by candlelight as I don't have a fire.
That's ticked off 4 squares on my #Witchathon bingo board and about to start a new horror book while I hide under the blankets. 🖤🎃🖤

This #ARC is stunning. James Rebank on an isolated Norwegian island collecting eider down with one of the last women to do it traditionally. Perfect.

I was going to ask for some female horror writers but then clocked this from Book Riot. My absolute favourite genre is gothic horror/thriller.

Hi,
I'm making a tentative return, slowly getting better. Thank you for all your lovely well wishes.
I'll catch up with all tags and posts over the week. I've just posted the October #buddyreads for #NaturaLitsy and #VirginiaBloomsberries
I will post the discussion threads for both September 's reads over the weekend.
I'm looking forward to catching up.
#VirginiaBloomsberries
Our next #buddyread is Night and Day, published in 1919. As one of her earlier works, it is another example of her development as a writer. Set in Edwardian London, the story centres on 2 friends and their romances.
All welcome to join us. Please let me know if you wish to be added/removed from the taglist.

What happened to September? TBH, I'm still reading The planet in a pebble, which is fascinating.

I'm so sorry to have posted on Saturday to then disappear. I do care. I just have a bit of a medical issue to deal with. That's about as much of an admission that I'm unwell as you'd get from a Brit! 😅🫣
I'll be back with you asap. Please keep tagging me, I'll catch up. X

Hhhhmm, I found this quite irritating on a few levels. I didn't connect with any character, didn't feel the enlightenment. It was a disappointment as I adored her other 2 books.
However, the writing is good. I think this is a bit of a hit and miss with a lot of people.

I'm excited to be starting this one. I have high expectations, even if the physics is melting my brain.
Anyone else started yet?

This is such a thorough, complex history of women, health and medicine. There is nothing new but this remains an important discussion of how men and medicine has treated women over centuries. Warning - it is enraging and at times distressing.
Read with #SheSaid @Riveted_Reader_Melissa
Almost time for our relaxing #Hyggehourreadathon ☕️
What are your plans?
@TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit @jenniferw88
Our #NaturaLitsy September #buddyread is The planet in a pebble. Zalasiewicz gives us a billions year history of earth, with a piece of Welsh slate as his starting point.
I'm really excited to read this one with you.
All welcome to join us. Please let me know if you wish to be added/removed from the taglist.

#VirginiaBloomsberries September #buddyread is Two Stories. This is her 2nd publication from 1917. It was published by The Hogarth Press, set up by Leonard and Virginia Woolf. I'm reading the centennial copy with a commisioned essay by Mark Haddon.
A discussion thread will be posted at the end of the month.

Hi @DebinHawaii thanks for the #5JoysFriday tag.
1. A lovely, most welcome package from you. 💌
2. Finding out there's another week of summer holidays to go. 😍
3. Thrifting.
4. Family dinners
5. Found a bounty of holiday photos from when the teens were littlies. ❤️
I've had a lot of good fortune recently on thrift finds. #VirginiaBloomsberries and #NaturaLitsy September #buddyreads both secondhand, in excellent condition.
#Thriftingistheway
I've been reading the tagged for #SheSaid August #buddyread I have to take it slowly as the content is enraging. Cleghorn writes about the treatment of women by medical men over the centuries, from wandering wombs to hysteria and everything in between.
Highly recommended.
Our 1st discussion thread for #VirginiaBloomsberries
🚢 Did you enjoy the writing style?
🍾 Did you engage with Rachel Vinrace's character? If not, why not?
🚢 How did opinions on marriage differ, depending on social status?
🍾 Do you think the title of the novel has a deeper meaning?
I hope you enjoyed our first read. I'm certainly excited to explore Woolf's writing even more now. 😊
Next read - Two Stories. All welcome to join

Discussion thread for our August #buddyread The Vaster Wilds. All are welcome.
🐾 The author states that this is a retelling of Robinson Crusoe? How does she achieve this?
🍁 The protagonist has no name. What is the significance of this plot device?
🐾 The Powhetan tribe opens the narrative to historical context, particularly on survival. How does the girl react to the attitudes of the townspeople as she forms her own opinions.
