vonnie862 @AllDebooks Thanks for the invite but I leave for Scotland tomorrow and don't return until the end of the month. I'll definitely join in discussion in July. 9h
AllDebooks @vonnie862 sure, have a fab time xx 9h
bnp I really like learning about the spaces he talks about - the slag heaps, Chernobyl, etc. And it's encouraging, on one hand, to learn that spaces left alone increase in diversity. But that's because they are a refuge that people don't use. With our population increasing, I don't see humans leaving those spaces alone long term. 8h
Cuilin I‘m enjoying the writing very much. I live in New England so when she talked about the walls in wooded areas, she answers a question of mine. I always wondered about them. I‘ve seen them on the side of the mountains too, I was surprised it was once farmland. While some of it is quite sad. It‘s also so hopeful. I really didn‘t know much about Cyprus too so that was very interesting. 8h
sebrittainclark I'm really enjoying the descriptions so far. I've always been fascinated by the way nature takes over abandoned places. I'd never read anything about what happens in no-man's land like in Cypress or Korea, so that part was particularly interesting to me. 7h
Aimeesue Really enjoying this one so far. Reminds me a lot of The World Without Us, in a good way. It‘s a surprise to come across those stone walls, seemingly in the middle of the woods, still mostly standing even though they‘re just local rocks fitted together. A lot of résonances with Wilding, too. 2h
AllDebooks @bnp I find it very hopeful that nature will recover and heal the catastrophic destruction mankind has done. 2h
AllDebooks @Cuilin I'm glad you're enjoying it. The amount of information is truly remarkable. 2h
AllDebooks @sebrittainclark Cyprus and Korea were new to me too. Glad you're enjoying Flyn's writing 2h
AllDebooks @Aimeesue glad youre enjoying it. Thanks for the comparison books. I haven't read 2h

#Naturalitsy #Netgalleygroup #NGGSummersmashup

This is a wonderful collection of nature poems from both classic and contemporary writers. There are a wide variety of poems, presented in 7 sections, including the changing seasons; animal life; the world of birds; the way through the woods; the other worlds of water; moors, heath and mountains; and finally our place in nature. Each section is as charming as the other. ⬇️

AllDebooks Cont. It is beautifully illustrated, although I can't find details of the artist unless they're in the notes. Highly recommended. 3d

A quick reminder that things always change. We are capable of adapting to our current situations. Our attention should be given to how we cope with these changes. Anxiety and overwhelm can disrupt these processes.
What do you do to help yourself through unsettled periods?

TheBookHippie Journal journal journal 📝✍🏼 4d
bnp Walk with music or an audiobook, yardwork. 4d
Morr_Books I agree with @TheBookHippie . I also go for nice walks outside whenever I can and take some deep breaths of fresh air. 4d

ozma.of.oz I‘ve recently started meditating, and I‘m surprised how helpful it‘s been centering myself! 4d
Catsandbooks This has been one of the most stressful and overwhelming years I've had in almost a decade. Going to therapy and learning coping mechanisms has been the biggest help. Most of the time I would find solace in my hobbies like reading or art. But lately even that's been hard to focus on. One thing I'm trying to do is get better sleep. 4d
Catsandbooks Something I find helpful when I'm struggling with my mental health is to take a shower. Ik it's a simple thing but for me it's so cleansing in more ways than one lol. Like it's great reset for me. I try to ground myself by focusing on the smells, how the soap feels, the warmth of the water, etc. For me water is such a powerful thing, whether I'm in it or drinking it 😂 4d
AllDebooks Some great ideas, thank you so much for sharing x 3d
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie I keep meaning to do this and never get around to it. 3d
AllDebooks @bnp absolutely, very restorative activities. It's nice to slow down in the garden 3d
AllDebooks @Morr_Books mindful walking = complete relaxation 3d
AllDebooks @ozma.of.oz I haven't tried meditation for a long time. I should give it another go 3d
AllDebooks @Catsandbooks I'm so sorry it's been a tough year. I always take respite in books to escape difficult times, if only for a wee while. I really struggled last year and found I was too stressed to read, which exacerbated all the stress. I switched to audiobooks or short stories until life became settled again. 3d
TheBookHippie I forgot YOGA!!!! 😵‍💫🤷🏻‍♀️ everyday. 3d

Our discussion thread is open. Please do let us know your thoughts on this classic book.

How did you get on?
Did you enjoy the pace?
What stood out for you?
Was there anything you didn't like?

Cazxxx “I find it wholesome to be alone the greater part of the time. To be in company, even with the best, is soon wearisome and dissipating. I love to be alone. I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude.” Love this quote from the book. Sums me up perfectly! 2w

AllDebooks My favourite passage “We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.” 2w

Comments/reviews have been positive. I take it this was a winner. Did anyone not like it?

**Next up - Islands of abandonment starting Monday 5th June**

TheBookHippie I just loved this book I ordered it because I had a library copy and it was so much information that I want to refer back to. The writing was very good as well at least for me and that helps! Such a good read! 2w

Chelsea.Poole I have been behind and just started this week. I love it! Definitely a winner in my book. Last year I read and LOVED (and recommend to others who enjoyed our current read) 2w
Julsmarshall I really loved it and keep thinking about even though I finished it a while back. I feel like that is a good sign of a great read! 2w
Soubhiville Definitely a winner! I enjoyed her narrative style and learned a great deal. 2w
jlhammar So glad we read this one! Incredible, in these last chapters, learning about their antennae, their eyes, their ability to learn and adapt. Thanks for the recommendation @Chelsea.Poole - Bicycling with Butterflies sounds great! 2w
bnp This was the first one I read with the group, and it was quite readable, with fascinating new-to-me facts. 2w
AllDebooks I really enjoyed it too and there was so much info that was new to me. I'm so pleased you've all liked it too. 😀 2w
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie I'll be doing the same x 2w
AllDebooks @jlhammar you can certainly see why they've survived for millenia, given their adaptability 2w
Cuilin I really enjoyed it. Surprised at the reviews on Goodreads. Looking into planting a pollinator garden. 🪴 2w
Hooked_on_books I thought it was good. I would have liked it to be a touch more dense with info, but if it had been, I don‘t think it would appeal as widely, so that‘s a good choice on the author‘s part. And it gave me hope—these little ones have been around a very long time, so I feel like they can survive our planet-damaging shenanigans. Great segue into the next book, which is also very hopeful. 2w
CaitZ This was wonderful. She wrote in a way that was easy to understand and still delivered detailed information. I learned so much. This wasn't my first pick, but I'm glad I read it. 2w

No finer start to #20in4 than picking up a new library book. Soaking up the words and sun in between gardening jobs. May even have a glass of vino to celebrate the sisterhood and long weekend. Cheers 🍷

Can You Forgive Her? | Anthony Trollope, Dinah Birch

#Rereadtheclassics

Our June read is the first in Anthony Trollope's Palliser series, Can you forgive her?

All welcome to join in. Please do let me know if you wish to be added/removed from the taglist.

@LitsyEvents

CrowCAH I have never heard of this classic. Sounds interesting. Unfortunately, since it‘s such a long book clocking in near 800 pages, I won‘t be able to join the read along. Since my daughter was born last month, I‘ve been sticking with shorter works. Hope you enjoy the book! (Keep me apprised of the next buddy read for the classics.) 2w

AllDebooks @CrowCAH Awwww, how wonderful. Congratulations on the arrival of your baby girl 😍 I can completely understand your reasoning. I had to switch to short stories for a while when mine were babies x 2w
Sapphire I would like to try. I stopped about half way a few years ago 2w
BarbaraJean You can remove me from the list—I‘ve been overcommitted with buddy reads lately! Thank you! 2w
AllDebooks @BarbaraJean ok, will do x 2w
BookwormAHN I'll skip this one, but I did finish the Count of Monte Cristo, and it was fantastic 🩵 2w
AllDebooks @BookwormAHN glad you enjoyed it. I'm still going with the Count 2w

Here's our 1st challenge, running over June & July. Think about what you want to achieve and set your own goal for summer reading. I've deliberately left it flexible to ease us in over the summer. I aim for this group to be relaxed, friendly and supportive.

Be sure to use # and tag me so I can see what you're all doing. Please feel free to share.

All welcome to join us 😀

My #natureaesthetic board for all the things I love.

Forests, lakes, blue skies, late summer heading into autumn, all things witchy, flowers, plants, trees, gardens, bees and of course books.
Fave colours - greens and blues

What does your board look like? Don't forget to tag me and @jenniferw88 (Great idea, btw)

Pickpick

I loved this fascinating book that details the relevance and influence Shakespeare holds over us over the last 400 years. The author writes assuredly with great authority and experience about why Shakespeare still holds a close place in our hearts.

Our 1st official post!! 🥳 I thought it would be nice to kick off with an intro to yourself so we can get to know each other better. You can be brief or deep dive. It's all good.

All newcomers welcome to join us. Please do let me know if you wish to be added/removed from the taglist.

I'll be posting our 1st challenge on Friday 😅

AllDebooks My name is Debbie, 50+(ish). I'm Mum to 4 amazing teenagers. I live in Derbyshire, UK, in a semi-rural area. I'm a lifelong bibliophile with a passion for all genres, except romance. I adore nature and also run #NaturaLitsy to connect with like-minded folks who love the natural world, too. I enjoy fiction and non-fiction equally. I also have a reading theme each year, 2023 is poetry. Over to you ..... 😀👋 2w
AllDebooks The tagged book is my current ng read. What are you reading? 2w
See All 25 Comments
Cazxxx I‘m Caz, I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. I‘m 47 and have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. I‘m a life long book lover, practice witchcraft and love all things macabre. I‘m a very curious person and love learning from books. My favourite genre is gothic but enjoy most genres other than romance 🤮😂. I tend to read 50/50 fiction and nonfiction and because of health/disability I mainly read audiobooks. I can‘t function without coffee ☕️ 👋🏻 2w
sebrittainclark I'm Sarah, and I live in Arkansas. I have a 1 year old baby and have always loved reading. I tend to read about 75% fiction, and within that I mostly read SFF and romance. I tend to be reading 1 ebook or physical book and 1 audiobook at any given time. 2w
TheSpineView I'm Lisa, I live in upstate SC (Clemson area for those U.S. Littens) go Tigers! I am a lifelong reader and read most genres, except for Horror. Favorite genres are Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Paranormal and poetry. I host the daily #PoetryMatters, the weekly #Two4Tuesday, and cohost #SeriesLove2023 with @Andrew65 Besides reading, I love riding my horse, gardening, puzzling, playing the piano, and painting. 2w
Julsmarshall I love what a varied group of folks (and readers!) we are! I‘m Julie, another 50ish Mom to 2 young adults and I live in Texas. I work with the Texas Library Association so both my work and personal lives revolve around books. I read a bit of everything, mostly fiction, and nothing too scary/bloody. I do a lot of walking and some commuting, so I listen to a lot on #audio. I‘ve been married for nearly 20 years and my dogs are my best buds. 2w
Librarybelle I‘m Jess from Pennsylvania. I‘m a public librarian, have 4 males cats, and my reading style is pretty eclectic. 2w
bnp I'm Ardene, and I live in Georgia (US) in the Atlanta metro area. I work in a public library and a bit more than 5 years from retirement. I'm an on-again off-again Net Galley reader, and am currently trying to decide which of 6 books on my list to request - essays about Bayard Rustin? Science fiction classics being republished? Islands in deep time? (non fiction)? A story about a bookstore? A memoir weaving Japanese folktales & art with memory? 2w
AllDebooks @Cazxxx I love gothic fiction too. I've only just switched to using audiobooks, always hated them. But now I'm older, I really enjoy them 2w
AllDebooks @sebrittainclark a baby, how precious. Enjoy your time, they grow up so fast 😍 2w
AllDebooks @TheSpineView great selection of hobbies there!! I've just been plotting more reads for #Serieslove2023 so far, I've only managed Lore Olympus 2w
AllDebooks @Julsmarshall I would love to work in a library/bookshop, but worry I would never get any work done. I'd be hiding in the stacks, reading. 😅 2w
AllDebooks @Librarybelle 4 cats!!! I have enough trouble with the 1. Do they get along? 2w
AllDebooks @bnp nice to know more about you Ardene. Tell me more about this Japanese folktales book 😍 2w
AllDebooks It's so nice to know more about you. Thank you so much for joining me. Are you ready for the challenge? 2w
LocalTXLibrarian I'm Lani! I'm 24 and from Texas. I currently work as a public librarian in the same library that I spent most of my childhood in - so it's an absolute dream for me! 💛 I love reading mystery/thrillers, but lately I have found myself enjoying classics. I work closely with teens in the library, so I also read a lot of YA. I have been on Netgalley just since the beginning of the year and I have 39 books I need to read...it's a real problem! 😂 2w
Librarybelle @AllDebooks The middle two do not, but we manage. 😂 2w
Larkken 👋 I‘m Larkin from Nebraska. I‘m a forensic anthropologist, and I have a dog, a cat, and a partner that put up with me when I‘m nose deep in a book. I read pretty widely, particularly on audiobook… but sff and horror are my comfort genres! Glad to join you all, and to get back into ARCs :) 2w
bnp @AllDebooks The book is The night parade by Jami Nakamura Lin. It is a memoir that incorporates Japanese folktales, and is illustrated by the author's sister. 2w
ozma.of.oz Hello! I‘m Krysta from Utah! I joined up for NetGalley at the beginning of the pandemic, because I wasn‘t working at the time. But then I went back to work and my turnaround time became much worse. 😂 I have a cat Lucy, although I joke it‘s short for Lucifer. And I can‘t wait to see what everyone is reading! ❤️ 2w
AllDebooks @LocalTXLibrarian hi 👋 dream job!! I hear you, I joined in November and got so excited at free books I went on a demented request spree. 1w
AllDebooks @Larkken glad you've joined us. Your job sounds fascinating 1w
AllDebooks @bnp looks beautiful x 1w
AllDebooks @ozma.of.oz Lucifer 😂 glad you've joined us. I'm excited to see what everyone's reading, although I have concerns it's gonna explode my wishlist 🫣 1w

@TheHeartlandBookFairy Do you have any idea how many lists I've drawn up? I had a poetry, a non-fiction and a fiction list going. I've finally amalgamated the 3 lists into 1 of 12 books
Hopefully, it's varied enough to spur me on. Plenty of scope for mood reading and fulfilling my latest obsession, Georgian England.

The 2 remaining slots will be used for#Netgalley arcs.

Let's get started 🤓🍷📚🌞
