#OffMyShelf “hardback”

This book disappointed me. It‘s not quite memoir nor is it a proper history of jigsaw puzzles or of children‘s games. It‘s a hodgepodge and, IMO, it didn‘t always hang together. Some will find the hodgepodge charming, no doubt. Still, Drabble is a good writer, so it wasn‘t always a slog and I did learn the occasional fact, which hopefully I will remember. Like the Temple of Mithras in London.

CaramelLunacy What does it say about the Temple of Mithras? 1w
Ruthiella @CaramelLunacy Not much. Just that it exists in London as part of the “jigsaw” composition of that venerable city. But I googled it and fell down an internet rabbit hole as a result. 1w
wanderinglynn 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 another one off your shelf! 1w
CaramelLunacy @Ruthiella the best kind of rabbit hole 1w

The Inheritance Games | Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Pickpick

The inheritance games was a fun and entertaining experience. The chapters were short and had something new with every page that continuously adds to the plot. Avery Grambs, the main protagonist of this tail, started with nothing and then is given the entire inheritance of a billionaire in Texas. She is told to inherit the entire fortune she has to live in the Hawthorne house for a year. The Hawthorne family has four grandsons to the billionaire.

Alaina.Doherty Xander, Jameson, Grayson, and Nash. Avery is in a sticky situation when she finds herself falling for two of the grandsons. She then is faced with many problems and her investigating of why she was given billions from a complete strangler, leaves her with some consequential predicaments. 2w
Alaina.Doherty This first person novel is similar to little white lies. A book written by the same author as the inheritance games, where the protagonist is given money to live in a house with her grandmother for a year. If you read and enjoyed little white lies you will adore the inheritance games. 2w
Alaina.Doherty The inheritance games has a couple themes through out as the story progresses, but Avery learns something from each of the grandsons. From Nash she learns it‘s important to be yourself while being on top, you also have to be sharp in this world rather than delicate like the glass ballerina or the knife. From Jameson she learns adventure and games are fun to an extent because if you go to far you could end up hurt. 1w
Alaina.Doherty From Grayson she learns loyalty and respect are two different but cohesive qualities. And from Xander she learns kindness and solidarity through his actions towards her when he decides not to care that Avery got most of the family fortune. The whole book put together has a common qualities but one topic that shows up often is family. Family is the most important element to the brothers and they have each others back as well as having Avery‘s back. 1w

#WhereAreYouMonday

I‘m mainly in Long Bennington in Lincolnshire off the Great North Road where Margaret Drabble‘s maternal grandparents had a tea house and lodging during her childhood. This is a gentle, introspective memoir, focusing mainly on one favorite aunt, but also quite meandering.

LeahBergen Well, this sounds fascinating! 2w
Ruthiella @LeahBergen It‘s a bit of a hodgepodge so far, but if you like Drabble as an author, I‘d recommend it. 2w
readingjedi ...with jigsaws?!? I'm stacking! 🧩🧩🧩 2w
Ruthiella @readingjedi Jigsaws do come up because they were a shared activity between Drabble and her aunt. But it‘s not the focus of the book, alas. I also love jigsaw puzzles 🧩! 2w

Repost for @TheAromaofBooks

Whoops, already dropping the ball on posting the #ISpyBingo board each month 😂 Here is January's board!! You can play this however you like - I personally let a single book fill as many prompts as it can, or you can do one prompt per book, whatever you like best!! If you want all 12 boards for the year, let me know and I'll post the link!!

ElizaMarie Can you add me to the tag? I loved doing them in the past, but I forgot to look up the boards. 3w
Faranae Never fear, you'd posted January's board when you announced doing this for 2025, so now I have two copies. I think I'll do it your way - a book can fill as many prompts as it can. Keep it fun and low stress. ❤ 3w
TheAromaofBooks @Read4life @peanutnine @ElizaMarie - Check the link above and let me know if it works?? I think it will take you to the Canva doc where I made all the boards!! But I'm not completely sure if it's the right thing haha 3w
peanutnine @TheAromaofBooks looks good to me! Thanks! 😊 3w
OriginalCyn620 Yay! I‘m in for this year! 😊 3w

julieclair Yay! Thanks for the link. I‘m going to work all the boards all year, and see how many I can get. I‘m sure it‘s a lot of work to set all this up. Thank you, Sarah. This is such a fun challenge. 🙂🩵 3w

Julies_Bookshelf_Adventures This looks like so much fun! Could you add me to the tag? 1w
TheAromaofBooks @Jules_Bookshelf_Adventures - Absolutely!! And if you want to plan ahead/play all twelve boards all year, there is a link in one of the earlier comments to all the 2025 boards, plus I'll try to remember to actually post each month's board here 😂 I also have the prompts on StoryGraph if you're active there: https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/85a6eb78-a914-4e84-a200-9073f75... 1w

I WAS planning on starting this puzzle to work on throughout the month, but my rocket-scientist son came home and completed it in 24 hours. So, um… yeah. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As someone who enjoys puzzles of all types, I had to give this one a shot. It is a sweet story about friends and chosen family and I enjoyed it. It did take me a little longer to read than normal, as I kept stopping to solve the puzzles myself. This is a light read, with a bit of a mystery and a touch of romance and was a lovely calm choice during the crazy build up to Christmas. This is a debut novel and I will watch for more. 3.75/5 stars

For those of you who like planning ahead - the 2025 #ISpyBingo challenge is now available on Storygraph!!!

https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/85a6eb78-a914-4e84-a200-9073f75...

I am going to TRY to be better about posting each month's board a week or two before the month starts, and tagging those who wish to be tagged 😂 If you want to be on that tag list, let me know!!

The Storygraph link has the “rules“ to this challenge ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) which, like most of my challenges, are pretty loosey-goosey haha

But the basics are that items can be found anywhere on the outside of the book (front, back, spine) unless specified otherwise. Any item can be either a picture of that item OR the word (so a candle or the word candle) unless the item is listed in quotation marks, which means you have to find those exact words.

If you would like to see the entire year of bingo boards ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) here is a Canva link that should let you view/screenshot them -

https://www.canva.com/design/DAGVO4NctsY/-lGsmflP3sUW9FsAung8hg/view?utm_content...

You can do one board a month or work on all 12 the whole year. Or you can be complicated like me and start each month's board on the first of the month, but give yourself an entire year to clear it to keep things fresh 😁 ⬇
2mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Literally whatever works for you!! Let me know if you have any questions or if a link doesn't work or if there is a glaring spelling error, etc. Happy searching!!

Deblovestoread Joined on Storygraph. Please add me to your tagged list. 2mo
PuddleJumper Is there a place with all this year's boards? I've not been keeping up but I'm gonna use them for extra points 😂 2mo
willaful What a nice job you did on the boards! I can see the advantage of Canva. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks @willaful - Thank you!! I had wayyyy too much fun picking backgrounds, and Canva does a thing when you are picking your font color where it has several colors that are IN the background, so I got to have matching fonts, too 😂 2mo
julieclair Thanks for doing all 12 boards at once! I‘ve joined the SG challenge. Please tag me here on Litsy, too. Thanks, Sarah! 😃 2mo
jenniferw88 Please tag me for this, please, Sarah! 1mo

Two bingos, an excellent month for me! But how irritating that I read two graphic novels this month that showed pictures of students with tons of objects on the cover and neither of them had a laptop or scissors or a freakin' apple. One didn't even make the board!

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! Looking great!! 2mo

So I've fallen a bit off the bandwagon with the #ISpyBingo challenge this year, but here is December's board - anyone is welcome to participate!!

I have refreshed this challenge for 2025 and will be posting 12 new boards!! I seem to have lost the tag list for this challenge, if I ever had one (lol) so please let me know if you'd like to be tagged with the 2025 boards coming as soon as I finish getting this challenge loaded onto Storygraph. ⬇

TheAromaofBooks @Clowjick came up with the idea for this challenge and I cohosted with her last year, but she's busy with real life these days and has told me I am free to take over the challenge so here we are 😂 I'm pretty stoked about the 2025 boards as I really enjoy this challenge.

At any rate, feel free to use this one for WinterGames or just for fun. Every book can mark off more than one item. These items need to be on the cover of the book, can be on ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) the front, back, or spine!! Let me know if you have any questions - happy spying!! 2mo
PuddleJumper Yay another board! I'm doing the whole challenge as a year long thing rather than month by month. I wouldn't get any of the prompts that way. Got 184/300 so far 😅 2mo
See All 14 Comments
TheAromaofBooks @PuddleJumper - I've been doing the same thing. But I think next year I'm going to start a new one every month, but give myself a whole year to clear it. So I start January on 1/1/25 and have to be done by 12/31/25, but February starts 2/1/25 and has to be done by 1/31/26. I cleared sooo many prompts in January/February/March last year and then the rest of year hasn't been as fun 😂 2mo
Sarahreadstoomuch I enjoy the #ISpyBingo too, but I‘m not great about posting my progress. As much as I meant to start a new board each month and go back to complete older ones, I totally forgot and will do a better job in 2025! I see your wrap-around approach, or really a year for each board… and I might do that too…. Depends on how my logs line up! lol 2mo
LiseWorks I love the#ISpyBoards but really can't finish them in a month, so I have been working on them. I have Jan to July all done. I can't wait for the Dec 2mo
Read4life Please tag me!!! Thanks. 2mo
willaful please tag me. 2mo
peanutnine Woohoo this challenge has been fun! I've been working through all the boards all year and I've managed to get a bunch filled! Please tag me for next year ☺️ 2mo
Faranae Add me to the taglist! 2mo
BarbaraBB I‘d like to give it a try again! Are you on Storygraph again as well? 2mo
TheAromaofBooks @BarbaraBB - It will be!! I'm slowly getting all the prompts entered haha 2mo
willaful Tag me please. 2mo
MatchlessMarie Tag me for the 2025 boards please! 2mo
