Not only did I pretty much channel the character (Tibby) Amber Tamblyn plays in Sisterhood growing up, I totally love the woman she is now! Her discussion with reporter Jodi Kantor, focusing on #MeToo — was so good & necessary.

Flipping through a few pages now: a female rapist goes unchecked and the public response to the male victims is much similar to current responses given to females. Yikes.

Melissa_J You always go to such great book signings/readings! BTW - is that a dress you are wearing and, if so, is it from Torrid? Cause if it is you and I were dressed identically today 😊 7y

I guess there's no compliment they haven't gotten yet, so i often end up saying nothing, except: hi, nice go meet you, could you please make it out to nina? Thank you so much, have a nice day!' 8y

aizekj If it makes you feel any better, I went to multi author signing and got so nervous that I mixed up the plots of the two books I was getting signed in my head. I gushed about a book to an author for like 5 min and when I looked at her confused face I realized she had no idea what I was talking about. So then I said something horrible like "Oh no! Uh, your book is the one set in TX, right?That was really good too." Totally embarrassing. 8y

julesG Haven't met any authors yet, except the people I already knew long before they published. I'd go with @Sarah83's idea if anything came out of me. I'm much better at talking to authors via email. 8y

LeeRHarry Myself and a couple of friends went to get our books signed by Roxane Gay and two of us - including myself here- were dumbstruck, my other friend asked how she was enjoying her time in Australia and we had a nice chat after that so maybe something like that's a good opener? (edited) 8y

xicanti If I've already read their book(s), I try to keep it to something like, "I loved this; thank you for writing it." If not, I try to veer towards, "I'm looking forward to this." TRY being the operative word here, because a) I'm sometimes bad at verbal stuff and b) I have an unusual name (Memory) and a LOT of authors comment on it at signings. Like, Ellen Datlow made a (nice) joke about it and I didn't get it because OMG ELLEN DATLOW. 8y

Bradleygirl I absolutely tripped over my tongue getting my books signed by A.S. Byatt. Sigh. She was super nice though! 8y

❤️Elly Griffiths is a pure delight to meet in person. Her Ruth Galloway series is even more meaningful as one of my favorites now that I know the significance and thoughts behind the characters.

📝She also teaches creative writing. I found her answer to my question on what advice she gives her students to be meaningful, humorous, and practical. Love her.
