It feels like #WeveOnlyJustBegun with this book, because even though I‘m about a third of the way through, I have NO IDEA what‘s going on, I‘m confused and pretty sure I‘m going to end up not liking this book much. It will take so much coffee to get me through this book ☕️☕️☕️

#MayMovieMagic

gradcat I hope you get through it—I hate it when that happens! 😊 5y
JennyM For some reason I don‘t want to read this one. I feel a bit intimidated by it. Looking forward to hearing how you find it x 5y
Cathythoughts I nearly got it ... just for the cover ♥️👍🏻 5y

erzascarletbookgasm Agree the cover is beautiful @Cathythoughts 5y
8little_paws I'm about this far as well and yes, it's a hard book to read. I'm hoping to finish it up soon though. 5y
blank I had trouble with this one too. I stopped around 50 pages and haven't decided if I'm ever going to go back to it. 5y
Centique Your mug is gorgeous! 5y
Geeklet @LaurensLibrary Exact same thing happened to me. I‘ll try it again....eventually. 5y
Cinfhen Uh oh!!! I‘m really nervous 🤦‍♀️I‘ve been looking forward to this book for so long but I‘ve only seen meh reviews 5y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen I hate to say this, but I‘m hating it a bit. I‘m only struggling through it for the #MarchMadnessChallenge, and because it is starting to make a teeny tiny bit of sense. But no a fan, which bums me out, because I was really excited for it 😔 5y
Kalalalatja @8little_paws @LaurensLibrary @Geeklet I‘m not against violent books (I love GRRM‘s books), but something about this is just too much. It is so graphic and it feels like violence for violence‘s sake, and not for the story. 5y
Kalalalatja @gradcat it is so disappointing! @JennyM so far, I can‘t recommend it 🤭 @Cathythoughts @erzascarletbookgasm it is a stunning cover! @Centique thank you, I painted it myself ☺️ 5y
merelybookish I couldn't finish his last book and everyone loves it, so I didn't even consider trying to read this one. 5y
blank @Kalalalatja Yeah I thought the sex was overdone, too. Like there was constant, graphic scenes about masterbating and stuff for no reason. 5y
Centique @Kalalalatja how clever you are! 5y
Suet624 I‘m bummed because I recently bought this and Seven Killings. Neither of which seem to be easy to like. 5y
gradcat I‘m so sorry. That is really sad...do you HAVE to finish it for the challenge? 5y
Kalalalatja @gradcat not really, but I‘m way too stubborn when og comes to stuff like this. And now I‘m so far, I kinda need to see how it ends even though I‘m hate reading it all the way to the end 5y
gradcat Same here. I am really trudging through my current read...it, too, is for a challenge. I‘m almost there, though, but it seems like it has taken me a month! 5y

#BookMail Pt4 Number Seven In Sayers Lord Peter Wimsey series. I‘m slowly accumulating them all in these editions, they‘re so pretty. And colourful! #WeveOnlyJustBegun #MayMovieMagic

rretzler One of my favorite series! I have them all in one particular cover, except for The Nine Tailors. I keep thinking that I‘d like a complete collection with all the same covers...maybe someday😀 5y
Cinfhen Beautiful edition 5y
gradcat I love this series as well, but I don‘t have but one that I own. Good luck collecting them all! 🤞🏼 5y
RohitSawant I've been meaning to start this series! 5y

The Count of Monte Cristo | Alexander Dumas

A significant amount of my favorite books, & memorable reading experiences, have involved long books. Above are four that I plan on reading this year. As Jane Smiley wrote, "In a novel, length is always a promise, never a threat."
#WeveOnlyJustBegun #MayMovieMagic
@rohit-sawant @Cinfhen

Cinfhen Unless you have severe #PageCountPhobia 😜😜😜im always scared by a #Chunky but truthfully they make the best stories... 5y
RohitSawant Great list! 🖤🖤 5y
Cathythoughts Nice quote from Jane Smiley ♥️👍🏻 5y

LeahBergen What @Cathythoughts said! What a marvellously truthful quote. 5y
LeahBergen I‘ve read the top two and enjoyed the Dumas a little bit more than the Tolstoy. 5y
Kalalalatja Loved, loved, loved The Count of Monte Cristo 🙌 5y
gradcat I‘ve read all but the tagged one. I really do not like “Moby Dick.” “War and Peace” is just okay, but I think everyone should read “The Count of Monte Christo.” Just my humble opinion, for what it‘s worth. 5y
Theaelizabet Moby Dick was a great reading experience. Love that Smiley quote. 5y
Liz_M Love the C. B-S. cover design on The Count! Looks like you have some wonderful trading ahead. 5y
Liz_M Reading. Stupid phone. 5y
vivastory @Liz_M I think that's one of my favorite designs for the Penguin Hardcover. I really do. I'm looking forward to it! 5y
vivastory @Theaelizabet I have been meaning to read it for years now, I am definitely making it a priority this year. The Smiley quote is from one of my favorite books about fiction 5y
vivastory @gradcat I've heard mixed things about all 4 except Count of MC, I'm going to try to go in with an open mind 5y
vivastory @Kalalalatja You @Moray_Reads enthusiasm for it made it a priority for me 5y
vivastory @LeahBergen Have you read Anna Karenina? I want to read both W&P and AK, I suspect I might end up liking AK a bit more. 5y
vivastory @Cathythoughts I have tried to make it my motto since I first came across it. 5y
vivastory @rohit-sawant Thanks! 5y
vivastory @Cinfhen They really do allow you to become familiar with a world & characters in a way that shorter novels simply can't 5y
LeahBergen Yes, I‘ve read Anna Karenina and I liked it way more than War and Peace. 🤫 5y
Moray_Reads Adore War and Peace and the Count of Monte Cristo but the other two just don't really appeal... 5y
Suet624 After reading a very long book I feel like I‘m tripping and stumbling out of another world back into this one. Feelings of separation, some mourning, and some delicious feelings of having left myself for a good long while. Have a wonderful time. (Not so sure about Moby Dick, but good luck!) 5y
vivastory @Suet624 That's the perfect way to describe the reading experience of a long book! I love that. 5y
Suet624 💕💕 5y
gradcat Have fun with this! And @Suet624 Nice atmospherics! 😂 5y
shortsarahrose It looks like I‘m in the minority, but I absolutely love Moby Dick. Favorite novel of all time. Haven‘t read any of the others, but I do enjoy a long book. 5y
fleeting Lovely quote! 5y
saresmoore I would love, love to do a buddy read for Moby-Dick. Did we already plan this a long time ago? 🤔 I would also like to read W&P and The Count, but life may prohibit these ambitions... 5y
BarbaraBB I‘m reading The Count right now. It‘s adventure and storytelling at its best! 5y

#WeVeOnlyJustBegun to understand why I ordered the book in the picture - first in the series - when I actually wanted to order the tagged book - third in the series; German editions. And of course I already gave this book to my son, who hasn't noticed my mistake yet.

I feel stupid.

#MayMovieMagic @Cinfhen @rohit-sawant

Cinfhen Ugh, don‘t beat yourself up!! I mess up all the time, too! As long as you didn‘t mean to buy the English version it‘s perfectly fine 😜 5y
julesG @Cinfhen Have the English version of all four books on my kindle, but the kiddo refuses to read the series in English. 5y
Cathythoughts Oh stop! I‘ve ordered books in languages I do not understand on kindle 🙄. Hopefully you can work something out 5y

julesG @Cathythoughts Don't worry. Since we have this book, in the picture, twice now, once in hardcover even, it'll make a nice gift for a friend's child or when one of my kids needs a last minute present to take to a party. We could also donate one book to the school library. 😊 5y
TrishB @Cathythoughts me too 👍🏻 easy to press that button! 5y
gradcat I‘m sure you‘ll find a deserving child who will love it! 😊 5y

Unfortunately, #WeveOnlyJustBegun to look for a new (likely used) car for my father. 😒👎🏻

My dad, who goes to car shows with his friends, DOES NOT want to shop for a car. Sigh. But his 20-year-old Mercedes has finally bit the dust.

After much prodding, he and I test drove two Honda CRVs similar to this one. Wish us luck. 🤞🏻🍀 #MayMovieMagic

It took me awhile to figure out this prompt, Cindy!! 😂😂

Kimzey Good luck with the car search! 5y
ReadingRover I had a 2008 crv that I drove over 300,000 miles and just got a new one this year. The only thing I ever had to get fixed was the a/c compressor and that was a year ago. It‘s the best car I‘ve ever owned. I absolutely love it. 5y
Megabooks @Kimzey Thanks!! 5y

Megabooks @ReadingRover Wow!! That‘s great to know!! His mechanic told us that Hondas were low maintenance and easy to fix. Glad to have someone who‘s owned one confirm it! 5y
Cinfhen We bought Niki a Honda CRV for her 16 birthday and she‘s still driving it ( although she‘s READY for a new car) they are excellent automobiles! My hubby drove a Pilot. Can‘t go wrong with a Honda. Good luck 🚘 5y
Megabooks @Cinfhen That‘s fantastic! I‘m glad I‘m seeing such rave reviews! We‘re considering a pilot as well, but they don‘t have the right one for us in town. I‘m continuing to look! 5y
gradcat Good luck with the car search, hon 😉 ☘️🤞🏼 5y
KathyWheeler I loved my CR-V. The only reason I‘m not still driving it is my husband, who refuses to get himself a new (even used car) needed a new car. I‘d fallen in love with this electric blue Toyota Rav4; so I bought myself the slightly used (2018) RAV4 and gave my husband the CR-V. Good luck with the car shopping. 5y
Megabooks @gradcat Thanks!! 5y
Megabooks @KathyWheeler We were also looking at Toyota models. How‘s your RAV-4? 5y
KathyWheeler @Megabooks I love it too. 5y
Megabooks @KathyWheeler 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks!! 5y
KathyWheeler @Megabooks I honestly think you can‘t go wrong with either one. I bought the CR-V originally because it had more options and was less expensive than the RAV4. Buying used this time evened that out. Both are good cars. 5y
Megabooks @KathyWheeler I‘ve noticed that similar cars are priced a little higher at Toyota, but Toyota models have more of the features he wants standard or at lower trim packages. The same dealer owns Honda and Toyota here, so at least it‘s convenient! We‘ve also thrown in the Hyundai Santa Fe, but I know a lot less about them as a brand. 5y
KathyWheeler @Megabooks my son and daughter-in-law own Hyundais, just not the Santa Fe. They love them. I‘ve driven a Santa Fe as a rental and didn‘t find it as smooth of a ride as the Honda and Toyota. 5y
Megabooks @KathyWheeler I think, assuming dad and I can find time, we‘re going to try the Santa Fe, RAV-4, and he wants to try a Highlander, next week. None of us have owned Asian cars before, so it‘s all new! Thank you for your help! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 5y
KathyWheeler @Megabooks 👍🏼 Good luck! 5y
Reviewsbylola Good luck and god speed! I had a CRV for a few years and loved it! 5y
Megabooks @Reviewsbylola @KathyWheeler Thank you!! 👍🏻👍🏻😊😊 5y
Copwithabook We once pursued a CRV for an hour all over the county- it went until the driver literally drove the tires off. So good car!! 5y

#weveonlyjustbegun this book and I, but I'm already disturbed and hooked. The first line is: "No one could say it was my choice to kill the twins, any more than it was my decision to bring them into the world." ?

Went to my Litsy TBR to find this one, which I think is a @BarbaraBB recommendation. Vesaas is quite high on my list of new authors to try. This isn't one of his more well-known works, but sounds intriguing- a murder on an island leads to an atypical revenge tale rather than a mystery 🏝️💀
@rohit-sawant @Cinfhen

saresmoore I want that. 5y
BarbaraBB I am always promoting Vesaas so that could have been me indeed. I hope you‘ll like his books! 5y
