There were a few instances where I felt like the writing was a little awkward, but I loved the story, and I did not see the ending coming at all.

I was really surprised that I like this. I really did not like Commonwealth. I don't know if it's because of the setting was near where I live, or it was just a better story I love but it kept my attention.

As many other reviewers said, this book pretty depressing and terrifying, but it had a positive outcome in the end. It's important to have narratives about these types of things. As Knisley states, 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, but it's considered taboo to talk about it.

I love this book for older middle school and high school. There was barely any cursing and although there is violence, it's not graphic.

3.5 Stars The story kept me engaged, and I read it on a weekend. There were aspects, especially towards the end of the novel, that felt rushed and definitely “told rather than shown.“ I appreciated the author's note that explained the real-life inspirations. Overall, I'm still a fan of Ellison and look forward to reading more.

This memoir told through poems had some quotes that really resonated with me. Overall, the book made me feel so uncomfortable, which considering the subject matter, it should, that it ultimately brought down my rating. Ireserve 5 stars for books I want to reread, and I never want to touch this book again. I'm glad that Anderson continues to share her voice, and I recommend this to fans of The Poet X.

Exercise: 1.5/2
Books 1/8 but I might finish one today

How did everybody else do this week?

wanderinglynn Way to go! 🙌🏻 Great week! 2mo
ravenlee May I make a suggestion for the veggies? Keep a container of bell pepper strips, sliced cucumber, and/or carrot sticks in the fridge (all keep for about three days before drying out). It's probably been about 10 years since I read this book, and Atwood is one of my favorite authors. I listen to the audiobook to refresh my memory so I can read The Testaments. Claire Danes is an excellent narrator, and I was surprised by how similar the book was to the show.

I chose this book because a local library is doing it as its one book. Not exactly what I was expecting as it was more philosophical rather than a narrative. Lots of memorable quotes. Always interesting to read a book that takes place so close to where one lives.

This was my first Riley Sager novel. I don't like scary or gorey, so I was glad this wasn't that. Even though it has spooky elements, it's more if a mystery than supernatural or horror.

PerksOfBeingABookworm I haven‘t read his first, Final Girls, because the description sounds way to gory. But I really enjoyed his second book. I liked it a little better than this one. Last Time I Lied isn‘t gory. (edited) 3mo

Daisey I downloaded it, but I don‘t generally need to keep track of my time reading and am really bad at keeping track of time. 5mo
DGRachel I have mixed feelings about the Bookly app. I like it for print books in that it gives me an idea of how much longer it will take me to read a book once I start it and sometimes that‘s helpful to know (like when I‘m trying to decide whether or not to stay up past my bedtime to finish a book) but it also feeds my negative obsessive tendencies, which is not good. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5mo
