A little Icelandic crime fiction for #nordicnoirnovember! This one had a bit of a slow start but it‘s starting to pick up!

Loooved this book! It‘s such a compelling story with fantastically developed characters. Yes, this is a thriller, but I feel like it went much deeper than the average suspense novel. Highly recommended! I received a free copy from the publisher.

I‘m still elated at having met Ruth Ware last week, and slowly savoring The It Girl. So much of what she talked about is showing up in this book, and it‘s just such an amazing reading experience! Author events are my favorite!! Have you been to one?

Alternating POVs and timelines make this one a wild ride of a thriller. It‘s full of drama yet maintains a semblance of reality: nothing eye-rolling. You never who just who your friends really are! Not very deep, but very entertaining!

This simmering mystery packed a powerful punch! Lots of information and anecdotes about life as an American Indian and reservation life are wove into this novel, while building up an amazing lead character!
If you like crime fiction, and have been wanting to diversify you‘re reading, try this one!

The Stolen Hours | Allen Eskens

Pickpick

A fast paced and exciting crime fiction novel with a smart and strong female lead. I lived that Eskens gave Lila the spotlight in this one! Part legal drama, part hunt for a killer, this was riveting!
I love that his books aren‘t a series….but they overlap each other! I highly recommend all of his books!

Rock Paper Scissors is such a popular thriller right now, but for me it was just…meh. First of all, I guessed the big twist from about page 15. And it wasn‘t really that good of a twist. Building up a plot for an entire novel, just to say “whoops let‘s switch that” right at the end feels like a cheap shot. All of these basic thrillers follow the same pattern and this one was no different. #rockpaperscissors #popcornthriller

A good quick, fun ghost story perfect for spooky season! This YA was more on the mature side, but had a nice balance of ghost story and coming of age for the lead character. The short length was nice, but also took away from more depth overall, but I still enjoyed it!

These Silent Woods: A Novel | Kimi Cunningham Grant
post image
Pickpick

An isolated cabin in the woods made for a perfectly atmospheric setting. The characters were great, and little bits of backstory sprinkled in added a lot of depth. I loved that the backstory didn't take up whole chunks of the book, there was just enough to help you understand the character without the plot getting lost. Loved it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another great installment in the Shetland series. No other books transport me somewhere else like these do. Cleeves does an amazing job describing both the atmospheric setting and island life so that as the reader, you feel like you are right there! If you like the Three Pines series, then I recommend this one to you as well!

Sager is a good writer, he is…but this one was too cheesy and unbelievable for me. It took the unreliable narrator to new ridiculous levels. So many things wrong with the setup and plot for me.

The Therapist | B A Paris
post image
Pickpick

@StMartinsPress [free book]

I enjoyed The Therapist just as much as Paris‘ other books for many reasons. Instead of diving right into the drama, this novel starts out by simply introducing the characters and their place in life, allowing the reader to get to know them at almost a personal level.

The simmering progression of the plot made things occur in a way that felt natural, rather than forced or ridiculous. This is a fun thriller!!
