This one had me coming up with new theories all the way to the end. Enjoyed the twists and turns and how it jumped between past and present to put the pieces together.

I enjoyed the academic mystery that takes place at a college in Oxford and I liked how the story alternated between “Before” and “After”, but the protagonist got on my nerves, at least during the majority of the book. I kind of wanted to yell at her to get her act together and report the creepy porter activity. There was so much avoidance on her part. I like my heroines a little more badass, but overall, I enjoyed the read and author.

I've enjoyed several of Ruth Wares previous books but this one was a big "meh" for me. It lacked the "creep" factor of her other stories and I found it to be predictable.

Finished this one last night and really enjoyed it! It started out a little slow, but once I got into it, it really picked up speed and I had to finish it up to find out who the murderer was. This was my first Ruth Ware, and I definitely be checking out her other books.🎃🔪📖 #scarathlon #teamslaughter @Clwojick

I didn't end up liking this one. I was about 100 pages in and it just felt like I've read this book many times before. Also the chapters are really short but the writing is so dense. It felt like I was reading for way too long for how short the chapters were. The author tries very obviously to point you to who you're suppose to think it is, but that just made me think of them less and less. Boring, and obvious. 2/5

MelissaSue81 Yes, I agree with this. I really like Ruth Ware but this one didn‘t work for me. 2mo

This audiobook kept me in my car longer than necessary — always a good sign. Sometimes the truth is right in front of us, sometimes the lies are. If you‘re looking for a twisty-turny whodunnit, this is a good one.

In college, Hannah‘s roommate April is murdered. 10ish years later, the man who went to prison for the murder is dead, and new suspicions are coming to light. Did Hannah send the wrong person to prison? Fun book, good twists, but about 100 pages too long.

A great fall read! I‘ve liked other books by Ware and this one was pretty twisty…for most of it, I had no idea what to believe. It was a bit too long, though. But still a good, solid mystery!

In a similar vibe to In My Dreams I Hold a knife, but not as good. A woman revisits a tragic event of her college days and it puts everything that she thought happened into doubt. I do like the character work in this book so I‘m giving it a pick. However, it is too long and I guessed the mystery fairly early. I‘d still recommend if you are looking for an academia/domestic mystery. The audiobook is also solid. 3.5⭐️

I‘m reading my first book for #SuperSeptember Readathon 2022 @Andrew65

I don‘t know how much I‘m going to read during the weekend. We are in the middle of a Tropical Storm with a hurricane warning. Her name is Fiona. We expect a lot of rain more that 10 inches in some parts of the island, well we are an archipelago. So, let‘s see what happens. We will start to feel the first effects today late in the night.

Andrew65 Best of luck for the readathon and the Storm! 3mo
mabell I hope the tropical storm passes without damage - stay safe! ❤️ 3mo
Gissy @Andrew65 Thank you! I‘m expecting to read with my reading lamp ☺️ 3mo

Gissy @mabell thank you! They said is a tropical storm but it could hit the south area as a hurricane one. We are still waiting for any changes. But we have received a lot of rain already in the last weeks so that could complicate the situation. This will be my first storm/hurricane in this apartment so I expect not much sleep because I need to be alert in case something happens. But In general I‘m prepared. 🤗 3mo
AmyG Hope you remain safe. 3mo
Gissy @AmyG Thank you!🤗 3mo
mabell @Gissy The last thing you need after a lot of rain is more rain! I can understand being nervous in your new apartment. Hopefully you don‘t lose power and everything stays dry and safe! And you are able to get some sleep! 3mo

Gissy @bthegood @Catsandbooks I‘m here, prepared. I‘m reading and eating a lot😳😂I don‘t have electricity already but where I live they have a generator for the refrigerator and I use the other plug to charge the phone but I made breakfast before I lost the power, lucky me. It is coming so slow that now we expect it this afternoon. I hope it comes during the day and not at night. But thank you for your support🥰 3mo

Gissy @Soubhiville @Chrissyreadit @Avanders @EadieB Thank you for the support!🥰I‘m safe as well as my family. No electricity or water. Where I live there is a generator and I can have those services for a couple of hours per day. Problems to access the internet or make phone calls but that problem is related with where I live. The situation is not the same in the south and mountain areas. There are families that lost everything😢 2mo
Gissy They are expecting another rain system for the weekend. Until now is only rain. But that will be dangerous for everyone but particularly for those areas, the mountain and south areas. 2mo
Avanders @Gissy so glad to hear you and your family are safe. I know - it is so sad what is happening 😔 Do let us know if there is something we can do to help you & yours, and I‘m sure we‘ll all be looking for ways to help PR in general! ♥️♥️ 2mo

Gissy @LeahBergen @CBee Hi! Thank you for your support!🥰 I‘m still here without electricity and no water but internet is working better so now I can check Litsy. Sometimes I have to do it within a limit of time to save the cell charge. But besides those situations I‘m okay. I‘m happy because the park I use to visit for run and swim opened today and that is my therapy to manage everything.🤗 2mo

So, It is more of a between pick and so-so for me. I didn't hate it. But I did feel like it took a long time for it to get to the point that I wanted to / or cared about what was going to be the ending. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. So, that is always a plus. (Did this as a #AudioCommute) book

This is my second lukewarm thriller from Ware. Either she isn‘t for me, or I haven‘t read her magnum opus yet. Entirely too long (420 pgs), annoying protagonist, ludicrous murder, and a predictable reveal. It took forever for anything to happen, and when it finally did, it was ‘meh.‘ Greenwich Park has similar elements (college friends, pregnant protagonist), and did it WAY better. Read that instead if you want a dark academia-ish thriller. 2⭐️

I‘m getting my car detailed, so walked to the local Barnes & Noble to hunker down with my laptop and discovered they are having a 50% off everything in the store moving sale!!! The cafe was already closed (bummer), so now I‘m at Woods Coffee with my current read and new book haul. 😀When I blew cinnamon through my front door yesterday for an abundant month, this wasn‘t exactly what I had in mind, but I will take it! 😂

It took me a little while to realize it wasn‘t the I.T. Girl, apparently she‘s not in networking. Who knew? Haha, oops. This book was good and too long and sometimes unbelievable. It kept me captivated and engaged the whole time even when I didn‘t love it. As you can see, I have mixed feelings but I can‘t deny that I read it all the way through quickly and stayed up to finish it.

Ruth Ware has the best twists. I was convinced early on that a certain character was the murderer and was so pleased with myself when Ware started taking us down that path. And then just like *that* she not only left the path but she catapulted to a path I didn‘t think could even exist. Such good fall reading!!

How is it September already?! We‘ve had a busy summer with a kitchen reno but I‘m really hoping this month is quieter and I can get through a good chunk of my #SeptemberTBR. A couple of these have been languishing since last year but I‘ve been pretty good about getting through 4+ of my #readmyowndamnbooks books and keeping my book box books sorta under control… At least the library holds have stopped flooding in!

This wasn't the twistiest, edgiest thriller I have ever read, but I did enjoy it, mostly because I actually did like Hannah, both in the past and in the present. Will got on my nerves sometimes, but I liked the way everything came together. Not my new fave (glad I decided to #borrownotbuy) but I did stay up past my bedtime to see how it turned out!!

#BookReport this week - still chipping away at this pile!! Theoretically supposed to add September books tomorrow (I usually update the windowsill on Sundays), but I think I'm going to wait until next weekend 😂 Finished The Small Bachelor (delightful), Pat of Silver Bush (so-so), and the tagged book last night (enjoyed it but didn't love it). TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) delight to handle. Picked up two pieces of used furniture today and have created a lovely reading nook in the back room, where a lot of my books live (authors A-H haha) so I'm super stoked about it. Now I just have to find time to sit in it!!

It had everything I want in a thriller,a building feeling of unease throughout, twists,a well developed plot.I was hooked from the start and couldn't read it fast enough to discover who had killed April and if Hannah had really helped send the wrong man to jail. This book literally became unputdownable towards the end,I am pretty sure I stopped breathing for a few pages there.Another addictive read from Ruth Ware.It was perfect in every way. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

🎧 📚 I ENJOYED this book.

I didn‘t really like Hannah very much. I liked the way the book ended & the story overall but I feel the way Hannah was voiced … I found her annoying/irritating/frustrating at times. It was a little long but it didn‘t damage the story.

Still a worthy read & the lower rating could just be me not connecting with the MC. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

For as long as it was & Ruth Ware‘s reputation I expected more from the book. That being said it is still a very enjoyable read & you really get to know & feel for Hannah, the main character. I easily get annoyed with books where it‘s all about this perfect, ethereal beauty but I stuck it out for this one. I‘ll read more Ruth Ware in the future but it may not be so high up on my list.
