This is a story of women accused of murdering her wealthy husband. It alludes the reader into thinking that she has killed before. It kind of bounces between what happened in the past and now. Really liked the setting in Canada.

This was a fun twisty turny read. Layers upon layers of mysteries to keep you guessing the whole time. I did figure out most of them but I was enjoying myself so much that it didn‘t take away from the reveal.

This was dark but so good-didn‘t want to put it down! Lots of TWs though-sexual abuse, child abuse, suicide among them.

Made short work of this one! It was a good read, not one of my favourites so far this year but still good enough. I‘m interested in what Jennifer Hillier‘s other books, Little Secrets and Jar of Hearts are like. I‘ll be adding them to my stack to read soon

The only good thing about being sick is the extra time to read…getting some fresh air and a new book

This lost me in the second part and never got me interested in again. I struggled so hard with it and just didn‘t care for the style. I wish it had stayed more linear because I got so bored for so long with this one.

Book club wanted a Thriller. This book got chosen. It wasn‘t bad but deals with child sexual abuse and that kind of turned me off of this one.

A fun distraction. Swapping around the timelines of characters like present day Paris to child Joey and others kept the pacing quick. The technique does make it easier to guess the twists, but even so, the twists kept me entertained and wanting more.

Good, but dark. I guessed most of the twists, but still enjoyed the story. Content warning for suicide, child abuse, sexual abuse.

While this was dark (TW for child abuse, substance abuse, sexual abuse, suicide), it was hard to put down. I did not guess the truth behind the death!There are lots of emotions in the book, and I was satisfied with the ending.

This is a well written psychological thriller. Paris is found covered in blood, holding the weapon that killed her husband. But being accused of his murder isn‘t the only problem she has, her past is coming back to haunt her. There‘s a lot going on in this story, towards the end it gets to be a bit much, hence the 4 stars, instead of 5. But overall, an engrossing read.

Finished this one yesterday. It was a bit too dark for me. I read about half of it last year and had to put it down. Then I was able to skim some and finish yesterday. This book has sexual abuse and child abuse in it. Things I don‘t enjoy reading about. So it‘s a low pick for me, because the book wasn‘t bad, but not to my taste.

This is my May 2022 book. Paris Peralta is suspected of killing her celebrity husband, and her long- hidden past now threatens to destroy her future. When Paris is arrested in her own bathroom, covered in blood, holding a straight razor, her husband dead in the bathtub behind her, she knows she‘ll be charged with murder.

I started this one a few months ago on audio book but couldn‘t finish it in time before it was returned to the library. I HATE not finishing books once I get started, so I‘m so glad it was finally checked out to me again.

Ooooooh I liked this one A LOT. This was definitely an intense and dark read. I do wish there was more to the end but other than that I truly enjoyed this one!

Predictable, but very enjoyable thriller. Hillier skillfully moves between dual timelines and tackles some dark themes (TW: sexual abuse, child abuse, suicide). Paris is a strong main character and easy to root for. However, if you‘re looking for a fast-paced, edge of your seat, kind of thriller, this isn‘t it. Nothing mind-blowing here, but very readable. Readers rave about her previous titles, so I will definitely read more titles from her.3.5⭐️

I found this one somewhat predictable but still good. It‘s got a lot of really dark subject matter (child abuse, rape, murder, etc) and I found myself skimming some of it to get to the meat of the mysteries. Nothing new or particularly shocking overall here but still entertaining. 🌟🌟🌟

Wow 5/5 read for me! First time I‘m reading this author, and it won‘t be the last. The way she captures abuse, trauma, and the incredible depth of pain Joey experiences is heartbreaking and made this story really hard to put down. I just wanted to know what happened next! Things We Do in the Dark is a twisted web of a story. I liked how Hiller weaved the past with the present, as well as different characters‘ perspectives and experiences with each other. I was pulled into the story and wanted to see what had happened or how things would turn out for so many of the characters, especially Paris. Paris is such a strong, sympathetic character; I found myself wanting to see her persevere and succeed.

I really enjoyed it. The story was interesting. I liked the mystery. I would recommend it.

I‘ve loved everything I‘ve read so far by this author, so I couldn‘t wait to read this. I like it A LOT. I couldn‘t put it down. However, I figured out the twists before they were revealed. That was a bummer but I did enjoy it and thought it was a great story.

My book to Rachel is going to seem like such a snore (sorry Rachel 🥱) which I mailed yesterday. I‘ll be diving in to read this soon.

I am so sad that I didn't like this book because I normally like books by Jennifer Hillier. But this book was soooo predictable and the ending was just ridiculous. I groaned everytime I had to pick this book up. 1/5 stars

I loved the telling of this story. Until the last chapter everything happens in past tense but it‘s narrated with such intrigue that it felt very present. I was team Joey every step of the way. Perhaps my strongest conviction is my belief that every child needs and deserves to feel and know they matter. Stories like this gut me.

Loooved this book! It‘s such a compelling story with fantastically developed characters. Yes, this is a thriller, but I feel like it went much deeper than the average suspense novel. Highly recommended! I received a free copy from the publisher.

Jennifer Hillier is my favorite author of thrillers! This is the third I‘ve read and highly recommend them all. I‘ll tag them in the comments.
In this one, Paris‘s semi-famous comedian husband dies under suspicious circumstances in their home. Paris‘s past comes back to haunt her and I can‘t say much more because SPOILERS! So many twists! I‘m trying to count them all, but I can‘t decide just how many there are! 😆 the biggest was obvious though.

Did get in a few pages at a splash pad near our Airbnb. Love her books!!

Overall, I found this to be a worthwhile listen. Just like Jar of Hearts, she relied heavily on the shock factor to reel you into the story. Although I did enjoy this quite a bit more, Little Secrets is still my clear favorite by this author. I can see how others could've found this boring…it does get slow when it slips back in time…although, the narration made that less of an issue for me.
