My first read of the year in progress for #Shakespeare2020
I requested this from the library after reading about it in a Book Riot newsletter. It opens with a quote from The Economist about the reappearance of the tradition of corpse brides in rural China. I enjoyed the art and the story, which incorporates a bit of the history with the modern story. #graphicnovel
This is a fabulously detailed book. I borrowed it from the library to peruse the pictures. Once I opened it,I reakized it was a serious study of the fashion of Jane Austen's time. I plan to borrow it again when I have more time to take a deep dive.
After borrowing this from the library three times, I finally started reading and it is compelling. It is also infuriating and scary.
I just borrowed this audiobook from the library, for when I'm in the car. I loved the Infernal Devices trilogy, so I have high hopes for this book. #YA #audiobook
Just started this one in preparation for the coming new year. I've been keeping a hand sketched organizer the last two years, but it is bare bones and I'm hoping to make it work better for me in 2020. #bujo
Super cute personal essays about the animals in the authors' lives. I will read just about anything that's heartwarming and has to do with animals. My favorite was the retellung of the wild encounter with a lion.
This is a MG graphic novel in translation. The author wrote it after devastating earthquakes struck Italy in 2016.It shows how a community comes together , and the many ways life gets turned on its head after natural disaster. I enjoyed the story of the three main friends, how they cope, and the illustrations. #MG #graphicnovel #translation
⚡⚡🌠⚡⚡ This book was 🔥 ! I would never normally read grimdark fantasy, and yet this was definitely my favorite fiction of the year. The world building, the snappy dialogue, the characters, the setting - all of it was phenomenal x a jillion. I originally borowed the book from the library, then I bought this copy for my oldest for his birthday. I hope he loves it! ❤️
Wow! It's been a year since I was last on Litsy. This was probably my slowest reading year in years. I'm not on track to reach my Goodreads goal, and it's the first year I haven't participated in the Read Harder Challenge. BUT, I still read a bunch a great books.
This cookbook I got my youngest for his birthday since he's a fan of the channel. There are a whole bunch of recipes I would never even attempt, but it's a fun read w/ great backstories
I'm really enjoying this fantasy. It's not what I expected. The details are intriguing. It's a little bit steam punk. It's a little bit of alternate reality. I love how pelotons of cyclists speed through the roadways instead of vehicles. I like the take on magic. I like the twist on Fae lore. There's a slow burn m/m romantic element and a mystery too. #Busterandabook
This was on Introvert Doodles Instagram, and I pretty much love all her book related cartoons. I had to share 'cause it's so relatable. 😊
#AugustTBR All these are my library loans and maybe I will get to them this month. 🤷♀️
This book is for anyone with a neurodiverse child. None of the information is new, but the second half of the book is laid out in a self-help style format, to help parents be their best for their kids. What I liked about the book is that it advocated helping atypical kids (no matter if that means dyslexic, ASD, ADHD, gifted or twice exceptional, etc.) to be their best selves, not try to change them. What often irks me about these books (below)
#July2018stats Ten books!
1 audiobook, 2 ebooks, 7 books
4 fiction (1 YA, 1 #romantsy, 1 children's classic)
6 Nonfiction (1 YA graphic, 2 memoir)
This version of Cinderella was not as terrifying as the version I listened to as a kid, where the step sisters cut off a toe and a heel to fit in the glass slipper, but the illustrations by Camille Rose Garcia are wonderfully creepy. I bought this book for the illustrations, and I was not disappointed. 👠
This was the exact kind of book candy I was in the mood for. Did the lady protest too much? Yes, but it was a fun fantasy romance that I plowed through in two days. I liked that the world building was based on Greek mythology. I can't wait to dive into the next book.
This small poetic memoir is a punch to the gut. It covers abuse, relationships, poverty and mental illness in a way like I've not read before.
I really enjoyed this book about traditional crafts. It's amazing the sustainable technologies people have created through the ages with locally available resources, and the amount of know-how that went into them. Unfortunately, that ingenuity is dying out as people rely on mass manufactured, cheaply made products. Although this book focused mostly on the U.K., it's message of the importance on supporting and promoting craft is universal. 👍👍
I started this yesterday morning and flew through it. But, now I'm at an emotionally uncomfortable part and I had to put it down. I just realized I did the same thing with Heart Berries last week, and I still haven't picked it back up! I think my brain is hoping for something light and fluffy from my TBR soon.
#Bookhaul The Camille Rose Garcia illustrated Cinderella I had to have when I saw it. The Dialogues just sounded cool, plus my youngest will read anything in comic format, so he won't even realize he's learning from MIT Press's first graphic novel. The Batman mints are for my husband. And the other two books are gifts for my kids. My suitcase will be noticeably more heavy on my trip home tomorrow. 📚
I switched to listening to this audiobook because my eyes were bloodshot from reading The Hazel Wood on my iPhone for hours yesterday. I'm seven chapters in and I still have over 12 hours left!
I started this atmospheric YA fairytale on the plane and I am hooked! I love the creepy factor.
In other news, I spilled a Cafe Mocha down the front of my white shirt right before boarding. 😳
I downloaded two ebooks on Libby, then my hold for the audiobook for The Amber Spyglass came in... and they're all due in 14 days. This should be enough reading material for my 4 day business trip.
I couldn't wait for my commute to finish listening to this audiobook, so I did some #audioknitting tonight. I really enjoyed the narrator and the language. Once I got into the story, I was riveted. It's hard for me to imagine some of the stories she told repeating themselves again and again. #audiobook
This was a great little graphic book with short biographies of cool ladies. Some if it is a little scandalous, all of it is really interesting. Many of the women I had never heard of before, so it was a neat surprise to see that one of the profiles was of a lady who was from the town next to where I grew up, and that she saved the most iconic building on our island. 👍👍
This is a small memoir. The language is poetic. I thought I'd finish this is a day, but the writing is gut wrenching, and I've been reading it in small bites.
I am really enjoying the language and the narrator, but this is my reaction to so many of the stories: 😱.
This is the summer of nonfiction for me, especially books about sustainable living. Rather than a 'how-to,' this book discusses traditional crafts, what they meant to British culture through the ages, and the author's experience with them. So far, it's made me want to take up weaving and keep bees. 🐝
I've spent the last couple of days emptying three giant storage bins filled with my kids books. These were all my oldest's. My youngest feels like he just won book lottery. 😂
This was about new ways to think about economics. Rather than relying on GDP to gauge economic success, the author proposes looking at such factors as sustainability, quality of life and networks of interconnectivity to rethink economic success. My biggest beef is the ideal the author describes working toward is global communism, but she never calls it that. Interesting to read, and I think it's important to look at subjects from alternate POVs.
So... I haven't been on for two months, but I used that time to read A LOT. I've finish 30 books. I finally read Penny Reid's Winston Brothers Series. I read a bunch of crafting, gardening and lifestyle books, and I listened to some great audiobooks. 😊
This evening's plans. #audiobook #libby
I requested this #nonfiction from the library after seeing something about it on Shelf Awareness. I'm about a quarter in and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, especially since he hasn't even started the journey yet. Has anyone read his other books?
Buster was not interested in posing with the book. He was also not interested in staying awake while I took the photo. 😂 #dogsoflitsy #pugsoflitsy
This one was still mindless fun. I like the colors. It got a bit gorier than I care for, and I'd probably like it better if that was toned down, but I'm curious where the story will go. #comics
My library hold came in. #currentlylistening #audiobook
1. I'm doing the #WeveGotIssues #CBBR because comics are my comfort reads and I can handle one trade paperback a month. 😁
2. I actually like my name but when I was 5 I desperately wanted to change my name to Rosie.
3. Oh, this is so hard! Right now it's Kendrick Lamar and SZA, All the Stars ✨
#TrivialThursday @GarthRanzz
I wanted to read something diverting and this did the trick. It's an interesting look at UFO phenomena from international and national expert witnesses. It makes no claims other than their is something happening, there is evidence, including radar corroborated pilot testimony, and that it shouldn't be ridiculed but studied. #nonfiction Has anyone here seen something they can't explain?
Less than an hour left, and I can already say that everyone who told me this was so good and I needed to read this was right! #audiobook
I finally read this! Now I also wish I listened to the audio. The art was interesting and I liked it with the story. Gaiman writes fairytales exactly as I think they should be.
This was such a super fun comic. I never would have thought to read this if not for the #WeveGotIssues buddy read. Now I want to read more. It's got wizards and spurned lovers and a koala. And ummm, what IS the deal with Margaret? That one panel had me like, huh???! I love this varient cover for issue four. #CBBR
I love the gang from Giant Days - Daisy, Susan, Esther, Ed and especially McGraw. #belovedcharacters #readingresolutions #april @Jess7
It's been a few years since I read this, but it takes place in a future where what is real and what is replicant is indistinguishable. #virtualinsanity #aprella @Mdargusch @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi @Cinfhen
