The Snowy Day | Ezra Jack Keats

Finally have the courage to start posting again. Winter is my favorite time of year ☃️

1) The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. Cute children‘s picture book.
2) Yes!! It‘s beautiful to see freshly laid snow in the morning.
3) Snow & Rose by Emily Winfield Martin. A retelling I‘ve been dying to get my hands on. Looks stunning too.

This poetry collection was creative in how it is formatted by the hours in a day and how each poem reflects the changing mood and thoughts. The evolution of perceptions of love was applicable to my own experience and it allowed me to see my own life in perspective that I really needed.

**Also I‘ve read many comic books from my ComiXology subscription that I haven‘t tracked but will post soon!

Just got my Libby account up and running so I‘m currently trying out this book! Though I just started this book, our main character seems to be a bit bratty for my tastes…not sure if I‘ll finish but I do like the concept a lot 🖤 Hoping to see either more action or see character growth!

#firstlinefridays @ShyBookOwl

ShyBookOwl This one is heavier on the action than the character growth, but there's definitely some of that too! 3y
dimedgirl @ShyBookOwl thanks for the heads up!! I‘m excited for the action scenes, most of my books have been too tame lately 😂 3y

📘This was the book for my last summer class and I wanted to read more essays about the topic.

A collection about the experience of having diabetes and the struggles the illness entails. I felt connected seeing the raw feelings as I know how bad diabetes can affect someone.. but objectively it wasn‘t memorable not did it have particularly beautiful prose. I actually read this yesterday while in the salon, and I can barely remember what happened 😅 but it‘s nice to see a new perspective I have yet to see in poetry.

Super late but thank you @WJCintron for tagging me! 💛

1) A lot! I finished my first 5K run in august so that certainly made me proud 💪🏼
2) Whenever school starts I count that as Autumn 😂 My little brother started on the first this month, so I hVe already mentally shifted to Autumn 🍂
3) Ohh man so many. I really want to tackle My Neighbor Totoro because I‘ve yet to have seen the movie OR read the book 💛

@MoonWitch94

WJCintron Congratulations on the 5k!!!
Me neither. I would love to read it! (MNTotoro). Great choice! I have the trilogy of Howl's moving castle. I need to read it!!
3y
dimedgirl @WJCintron I have been dying to get my hands on Howl‘s Moving Castle for ages!! I‘d really like to read all the Studio Ghibli movies in book form because I adore the films so much 🥰 Howl is one of my favorites too ☺️ 3y
MoonWitch94 That 5K is definitely something to be proud of! Congratulations! Thanks for playing 🌻📖🍁 3y

This is my TBR for the Novice Path hosted by G from the Book Roast on Youtube. So excited to join (and I technically only have to read 2 of them to pass)! Can totally change depending on my mood, but I hope to knock a couple of these out ☺️

WJCintron Is Anxious People good? Have you read it already? I started reading AMCO, but didn't like it. I have a couple of other books written by him, but I'm afraid to read them. I don't want to be disappointed. Keep me posted! 😃 3y
dimedgirl @WJCintron I haven‘t read it yet but I look forward to it! Backman‘s style is certainly not be for everyone and I‘ve heard the cast in Anxious People is pretty unlikable 😂 You may want to try a short novella of his, and if you don‘t like that, his other books may not be the one for you 😅 Thanks for letting me know though!! 💛 3y
WJCintron @dimedgirl Thanks for getting back to me. I really want to read Beartown, because I LOVE to read a book and then watch the movie or series. I've read comments about the series being good, so I want to give it a go. Let's keep each other posted. 😃 👍 3y

I‘m a bit late in posting but here‘s my wrap up for the #20in4 readathon!

Here are the books I started, but didn‘t finish in time:
- Mr. Penumbra‘s 24-Hour Bookstore
- Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982

And a DNF:

A really fun readathon that definitely helped get me concentrate my free time on books! Thank you so much to @Andrew65 for hosting it!

I‘ve gotten so many books this past week, I think it‘s about time for a book unhaul 😅 I love most of my books I own, but I do need to cut down a bit to open some room for the new ones I want to read. I have a few “college handbooks” that I want to give away too, but I may as well keep them for my senior year- just in case 😂

No thanks. Really boring romance between Tara and Preston. Preston is an rude, rich boss while Tara is his executive assistant who is trying to quit her job. He only allows it after she does a last favor for him and they end up falling in love. I‘m okay with cliche stories, but I didn‘t like either of the characters. Both terrible for each other, couldn‘t connect.

This was a pretty good dark romance about a rich and older man named Maximo who takes a younger woman named Juliet under his protection after he kills her father. It‘s has a trope/kink that is something I typically stray away from, but it wasn‘t as heavy, which I preferred. Messed up relationship, but the ride was fun if you know what you‘re going in for.

A short collection of stories about Maud who lets her old age hide the fact she deals with inconveniences in a…peculiar way. It‘s a fun tale and the idea of her committing these crimes is a twist I haven‘t seen much of. There were funny moments, but it also gave a glimpse of many problems that almost makes you root for Maud.

An absolutely beautiful read. Hits on growing up in a sad but sweet way. I may have almost teared up at the end, it was great. I loved the sly comments Eeyore made in this book (my favorite!) and the loveable moments of Pooh. Made me reflect on my own childhood and the innocence of that time. Great comfort read for any age.

Listening to this one on audio because they do voices of the characters! (Though Tigger‘s voice in the 2nd book is starting to get on my nerves so maybe will go back to reading). Such a cute read so far though 🍯 Wrote a thesis on the first one so I want to finish off the series. ✨

hannah-leeloo YA, fantasy and fairy tales are my favourite genres and when in a slump I read children's books to cheer me up 😊 3y
dimedgirl @hannah-leeloo I used to adore those genres too! I‘m slowly getting back into them. This year has been a lot of contemporaries and romances and a new spring to childrens/YA because of a summer class on the topic. I really want to hit the children‘s classics I missed out on growing up ☺️ 3y
hannah-leeloo That sounds like a great plan. You should. I'm doing the same. Currently I'm rereading the Harry Potter books then onto fairy tales again 🙃 3y

Oh wow.

So I recently got a collection of Roald Dahl‘s works and wanted to start making my way through them. This one was certainly written with no PC in mind. Maybe the times, but it‘s a story of a man who gets his neighbor to fall in love with him by impressing her with changing the weight of her pet turtle. As an adult, too much thought and the book is distrubing, but may be okay for kids for a silly story.

An old children‘s book I never read, but it was a cute read! Follows a handful of kids and their worries ranging from having a crush to not wanting their stepmother. Cute read filled with British humor that may not be everyone‘s cup of tea. A bit of a product of it‘s time, but I liked it.

Just trying to get through my physical TBR, and trust me I‘ve got a long way to go haha. Promise it‘s not all comics and children lit. 😂

I absolutely adored this graphic novel that features 3 different storylines that all talk about the Asian American experience. As an Asian myself I saw a lot of realistic feelings and pain in our character Jin Wang. Though there are many cruel slurs and racism in this book, it‘s to show a point of how life can be like and I thought it was done really well. The ending could have done more to tie in themes but overall was a great read.

I‘m sorry, I couldn‘t like either of the characters! Hate to love is such a fun trope, but Lucy and Joshua weren‘t it for me. Both were too childish and I felt weird reading the flirting: felt too forced. The moments are cute, but if I think about it for too long, it‘s uncomfortable to act like that. Plus whatever tension that was supposed to build up was lost on me in the 6th chapter. I only got through the first 80 pages till I gave up.

I really wanted to like this one because it‘s so cute! Sadly, it‘s just too childish and boring to me. Maybe would have been okay with the storyline as a kid, but this isn‘t a series I need to continue. Besides the art style, story isn‘t memorable. This was a cute children‘s ghost story that ties in Filipino myths! It handled the topic of grief well and I appreciated the art style that accompanied the novel. A wonderful tale that takes the perspective of multiple different kinds of people living in Cleveland, Ohio, coming together to create a community garden. A simplistic, but powerful collection of poems. I‘m only just getting into poetry, so for a beginner like me, this collection was perfect. I think it helped that there are sections in this book that are resonating at this point in my life. Even though her words are accessible, doesn‘t make her work any less poetic.

A quick read that felt a bit like a fever dream. The story idea was fun and entertaining, but execution was a bit cringy. Layered with pop culture references and I didn‘t catch them all. But without reading a synopsis and just walking into it knowing it‘s a comedy, I had a few laughs.
