Stellar writing and character development, sharp dialogue and pacing, tense plot. Dark, but good, kept me wondering until the end.
Mary's father died before her birth, her baby brother died from SIDs & her mom loses touch with reality so Mary becomes her mom's caretaker. At 9 Mary is accused of manslaughter accidentally killing a 3 month old her mom was watching. She's sent to 'baby jail' as she calls it then to an abusive group home. At 15 she becomes pregnant & decides she wants everyone to know what really happened the night baby Alyssa died so she can keep her baby.
