Thoreau on reading. I‘m loving this! #henrydavidthoreau #walden #lovereading
I recently started watching the Rebus tv series on BritBox, and decided I really should read the books. I was not disappointed! This is the first book in the series, and while it wasn‘t perfect, it was pretty darned good! I‘m hoping to find most of the series at the library. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fiona is questioning my reading choice for this evening.

I‘ve been taking advantage of my new Audible Plus subscription! This is the second book I‘ve listened to. It is a series of essays by a number of historians who discuss slavery as the basis of capitalism in the US. Fascinating so far! #audibleplus #amreading #audiobooks
Anyone else participating in the R.I.P. (Readers Imbibing in Peril) challenge on Instagram and/or Twitter? It begins September 1 and goes through October 31. The idea is to read as many mystery/horror/gothic books, stories, etc. as you‘d like. This is the 15th anniversary of the challenge. It‘s something I look forward to every year. Picture is my “pile of possibilities” and of course is subject to change. #RIPXV
Weekend reading plans! I love Anthony Trollope, and Framley Parsonage does not disappoint. The Milton biography is excellent, providing cultural and literary contexts about 17th century England in addition to details about the life of John Milton. Slow reading, to be sure, but interesting. #fridayreads #amreading
This should have been a fascinating story about bootleggers, prohibition, corruption, and murder during the 1920‘s. Instead, it was drawn out and dry, almost to the point of being tedious, in spite of a few interesting guest appearances such as Clarence Darrow. Fortunately, this was an audiobook - if I had tried to read a physical book, I might have given up on it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Joining in with @Lcsmcat and others for the #WolfeRead of You Can‘t Go Home Again by Thomas Wolfe. This is my first time to read Wolfe. I had no idea he died at such a young age (37) and that this book wasn‘t published until after his death. I found this collection of Wolfe‘s works on my Kindle.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Confusing and frustrating? Sometimes. Thought provoking and magnificent? Always!! This is a fabulous book that is well worth your reading time. It took me six weeks to get through it, and now I will go back and try to make sense of my notes. This is a book that one could read multiple times and get something different out of it each time. @Lcsmcat Thanks for reading with me!! #2020classics
“He talked to them about biopsychical projections of subconscious complexes into the objective; about transactions of which the medical constitution, the somnambulic state, was to be regarded as the source; and which one might speak of as objectivated dream-concepts, in so far as they confirmed an ideoplastic property of nature, a power, which under certain conditions appertained to thought, of drawing substance to itself, and clothing itself ⬇️

My slightly over-the-top August TBR. 🙈🙈🙈📚 Good news is that The Goldfinch and Moby-Dick are both read alongs that are more than one month in length. Bad news is that I still have 300 pages to go in The Magic Mountain 😬. I will finish it!

I love Mann‘s description of a cemetery. Beautiful.

Woohoo! My all-English translation of The Magic Mountain is here! I also bought a commentary! Almost tempted to read the Woods translation from the beginning, but that would mean it might be the end of August before I would finish 😳. #magicmountain
@Lcsmcat Linda, just a heads-up - I was looking ahead to see how long Chapter 5 is, and discovered that in the Lowe-Porter translation, there are pages of conversation between Hans and Frau Chauchat that are in French!! Just wanted to mention it in case you‘re like me and don‘t read French 😱😱. I did some checking, and the John Woods translation is in English. I found it on Kindle for $1.99. #magicmountain
I‘m waayy behind, but I‘m really loving this book! @Lcsmcat have you had a chance to read this? I‘m on page 127 (out of 700-yikes!), and am in chapter 4. I love Mann‘s discussions about time. #amreading

Taking a break from Faust with some British crime fiction, thanks to a recommendation by @HardcoverHearts ! #amreading
Faust is my #2020classics selection for June, and I‘m really enjoying it! Is it wrong for me to think Mephistopheles has the best part in the book? He‘s by far the most interesting and entertaining character! #currentlyreading
I‘m horrible at sticking to a #TBR, but here‘s mine for June! The bottom two books are carryovers from May. Not shown: Space by James Michener, which is on my Kindle.
Some of the books I came home with today from the Half Price Books clearance event at the Sharonville Convention Center near Cincinnati!! #bookhaul #nosuchthingastoomanybooks #usedbooks
Finished! I loved this. Full of action, fascinating characters, and a real page turner - all written in gorgeous prose. This book has it all: corruption, villains, witchcraft, gypsies, history, architecture, and of course Quasimodo. There is so much to unpack from this story that I know I will need to read it again. Soon. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Today‘s finds at the used bookstore. Most of these were on the clearance shelf. 📚📚 #usedbooks #nosuchthingastoomanybooks
Found this today at the used bookstore. Can‘t wait to dip into it!
This is my reading buddy, Fiona. I got up for a minute to do something, and came back to this...😸 #catsoflitsy
Started this yesterday and am having a hard time putting it down! #amreading #pulitzerprizewinner #nonfiction
Today was an awesome book mail day! My #BOTM box arrived, plus a Harold Bloom on reading the Romantic poets and a biography of poet Edward Thomas!📚😊💕 #nosuchthingastoomanybooks
I‘ll be starting this soon. I normally don‘t purchase mass market paperbacks, but I had a $10 bookstore credit (which more than covered the cost) and look at that gorgeous cover!!!! 👀
What started out as a fast-paced romp about a couple entering the Redex Reliability Trial to help their car dealership in the first half devolved into a bit of a slog about the horrendous treatment of Australia‘s native population in the second half. It would have been ok if the two halves somehow met up at the end, but they really didn‘t. 3 stars for excellent writing, in spite of everything else. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
