Mossflower | Brian Jacques
Second thrilling REDWALL adventure This is the story of Martin the Warrior, the legendary founder of Redwall Abbey. When Verduaga Greeneyes, king of the wildcats, becomes tyrant truler over the creatures of Mossflower, the woodlanders begin a life of serfdom and cruelty. But then, one winter afternoon, a young mouse called Martin chances by the woods -bringing with him an indomitable spirit of adventure and will for freedom. . . . .

I am posting one book per day from my extensive, and ever growing, TBR shelves. Some are old and some are new, some were gifts and some I don't remember why I bought them.

Some Sunday afternoon reading in my pyjamas. The Redwall series was one of my favourites as a kid and I'm enjoying re-reading some of the books. Mossflower is the second book in the series if you are reading them in publication order.

Brian Jacques shows the embodiment of friendship with the characters of Mossflower. It is such a humbling experience reading about their commitment to each other and the success of Mossflower Woods. It‘s also written in a way that readers young and old will enjoy the story. This series is such a treasure, I encourage anyone who reads fantasy to pick it up. #fantasy

bookandcat @chaoticgoodhufflepuff twins! It's such a lovely cover! I am sorry they changed it for current printing ☹️ 5y
BookmarkTavern I know! And then they changed the sizes too! So now my last two don‘t match the rest of them! 5y

I have several green covers, but I went with this one because I wanted to show off 🤦🏻‍♀️.

(Also, did you know “Jacques” rhymes with “shakes”?)

🐁🐁🐁🐁 I was a bit disappointed by the first book but this one was definitely way better. There were different characters and not as many clichés. This story took place way before the first book and it was really entertaining. I think I'll carry on with the series.

Finishing book 2 when I finally Googled "stoat" ? If I'd read it when I was nine that would not have been possible and I'd have only my imagination to rely on. Feeling kind of conflicted about it. #24in48

Probably my absolute favorite book growing up. I recently purchased my 4th copy after reading each one to death. Had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jacques years ago. Always always always recommend these books to adults and children. The BEST descriptions and characters. #mossflower #redwall #brianjacques #imagination #talkinganimals

Celeste57 I feel like the Redwall books don't get enough love. They were my first foray into high fantasy, and I loved them. They're what I think of when I remember sixth grade. I need to reread them! Glad to see someone else who loves them, too! 8y
BookmarkTavern These are all such fabulous books! I'm always ecstatic to see someone appreciate them as much as I do! 8y
LazyLibrary @Celeste57 I couldn't agree more. I owe that man my imagination! 8y

LazyLibrary @krysannethemums they really are! I actually just picked up a couple of books that I missed while growing up. 8y
BookmarkTavern Yeah, I keep finding things he did outside of the series. Like, The Flying Dutchman trilogy and the cookbook for Redwall feasts. 8y
Celeste57 And there are SO MANY Redwall books. It was a great find for me. Hopefully kids are still stumbling across these and falling in love! 8y

Speaking of #setinaschool, today I went to my son's elementary school for orientation because I'll be volunteering in --where else?-- the library.

The first book I remember checking out from a school library is Mossflower--anyone else read that as a kid? I think it ended up being a series with many, many books. I only read five or six. #booktober #FunFridayPhoto

Merethebookgal I loved this series! I think there ended up being over 20 books! 8y
RealLifeReading Awesome that you're a volunteer at the school library! 8y
CarolynOliver @RealLifeReading I'm happy to do it--his school doesn't have a librarian! 😟 8y
CarolynOliver @Merethebookgal Good for him! They were sweet books, as I recall. 8y

A few of the books from my shelves that have maps. I always loved the maps at the beginning of the Redwall books by Brian Jacques! I also loved seeing the map of the Seven Dials in The Mime Order. #mapsinbooks #somethingforsept

Peddler410 Long time ago I tried reading this series. Should I try again? 8y
MeganAnn @Peddler410 I loved this series as a kid and read the books through HS, but I haven't read them in a long time so I'm not sure how they hold up for adults. I remember them being vivid, detailed epic stories with characters and settings that were described so richly that I could always picture them in my head. I'm not surf that helps, but it's what I remember! I do intend to have my son read them when he gets a bit older. 8y

If you've ever read the Redwall series you'll understand why these #booksmademehungry! There are so many feasts and lots of wonderful descriptions of the food and drink being served- so much so that there's a Redwall cookbook! I really need to pick it up sometime and try to recreate these feasts I loved reading about as a kid! 😋

katrrosee YES! 8y
Sharanya Omg I TOTALLY feel you!! I couldn't get through these books without constantly snacking. Those epic feasts, man!! 8y
aeeklund YES!!! I totally thought of these with this prompt!!! 🙌🐭🍗🗡 8y

Mariliel Oh my yes. We used to listen to them on family road trips, and we went through *so* many snacks! 8y
kammartinez The feasts. THE FEASTS. When I was a grade schooler I used to daydream about the feasts in Redwall XD. 8y
Godmotherx5 Goodness, I have bought them for my niece but never read them. Sounds like I missed something good. 8y
Merethebookgal @KatrinaRose @Sharanya @aeeklund @lilycobalt @readinginthedark @Mariliel @kammartinez I'm glad I'm not alone in wishing I could eat all of the delicious foods described in these books 😋 8y
Merethebookgal @Godmotherx5 It's never too late to read them 😃 They are a lot of fun! 8y
Godmotherx5 @Merethebookgal After Homegoing & The Underground Railroad, I bet it would be delightful to read them. 8y
Merethebookgal @Godmotherx5 Good idea, after some heavy reads these would be nice to pick up. Redwall is the first book in the series, even though chronologically it's not first, I'd still start with that. 8y
