What a conclusion! As far as originally retellings go, this is honestly one of the best I've read. Book one was setting up the world and characterizations, book two provided so many revelations that book three had to pick them up, go into detail, and what a show Oakes gave!

So much went into all the books & what made her into the Queen of Hearts because this is not a happily ever after tale, but the beginning of her reign.

I read this entire book last night and finished the trilogy. Three stars for this book and I recommend the trilogy. These books read really quickly. Took me about 3 hours to read this one.

The final book in this trilogy was satisfying. It had a heartbreaking scene but it felt very much a necessary part of the story, revealing the fury that snakes through the queen‘s personality throughout the books. I admire the author‘s commitment to developing her characters in this YA series, when they could have been written more simply. Recommended even for adults.

I started this 3rd book in the trilogy about 1:30 this morning and I‘ve already read 75 pages. This trilogy is so darned good. I never would‘ve thought I‘d like it. It‘s the origin story of Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. I‘ve never wanted to read Alice, and still don‘t. But I‘ve sure been sucked into this one. All because I needed a #letterQ book for #litsyatoz and my daughter loaned me book 1. Just sayin‘, Oakes is a terrific writer.
