The End of Temperance Dare by Wendy Webb is a good fit for those seeking a haunting and atmospheric mystery that delves into family secrets and the eerie sins of the past.
When Eleanor Harper becomes the director of a renowned artists‘ retreat, she knows nothing of Cliffside Manor‘s dark past as a tuberculosis sanatorium, a “waiting room for death.”
I have no problem reading three books at once as long as they are all different genres. #Education #Horror #Poetry #bookstagram
A sanatorium was built for tb pts by Mr. Dare. Closed in 1952 with one of Mr. Dare‘s daughters as tb victim. Place was renovated as a temporary retirement for writers and artists. In present time, Penelope, decides to retire and chose Eleonor as director of this place but something happened to her & things started to happen to Eleanor and to the group that was visiting Cliffside. Are all these things connected?A ghost/mild creepy story 3.8⭐️
I would say “borrow.” It is a fascinating book and a quick read, but the last 1/3 seemed a bit rushed. Still...I can‘t get it out of my head.
For the most part, I enjoyed the story, but it wasn‘t the book I thought I was getting when I read the description and borrowed it. The premise is intriguing. The climax is pretty dark. I‘m happy to answer questions but don‘t want to give anything away! This was my first book by this author. I‘m rating it a “pick,” but I don‘t know that I would read similar books in the future. Not quite my cup of ☕️.
I finally chose my weekend read. Why is it so hard to choose what book I‘m going to read next? I have a million to choose from! 😫
"What I did not know then, but do now, is that something wicked was indeed wending its way into my life, only I was too caught up in my own to notice."
Yes! A little spooky interlude for these last days of October. Finally able to get back to this after finishing my library book.

Here I go @nu-bibliophile - off to get a little spooked! Asiago, my #LittenKitten, will keep me safe. #PetsofLitsy
I'm still in the early chapters of this book and it's already pretty spooky. I'm loving it !!! 👻👀❤
“The last line of my suicide note says that my nightmare is over. And, by now, it is. Yours, however, is just beginning.”
Travel reading-Loving this Gothic page-turner! Will the journalists, writers & artists at a seemingly serene retreat survive its violent past? I can't wait to find out more... #100pagesin #travelread #tense #coolsetting
I wasn't going to start this yet... but I finished the other books I wanted to read this weekend! #kidfreeweekend #cariboucoffee #minnesota

Juliet approves of my creepy stack! The End of Temperance Dare is a great, spooky gothic read, perfect for fans of Barbara Michaels, Simone St. James, and Amanda Stevens. Eleanor has just taken over as director of an artist retreat, and her first session is about to go horribly wrong. It doesn't help that the retreat is an old TB sanitarium. Wendy's books are just spooky fun. So glad she finally has a new one.
This book was very much on my wheelhouse (modern day Gothic ghost story) and I can't tell if it was my mood or the book, but I couldn't quite get into it. (Honestly though, I think it was the book.)
Settling in with the spooky read as the store's book group discusses their monthly selections.
