Five on a Treasure Island
Five on a Treasure Island | Enid Blyton
21 posts | 33 read | 1 reading | 8 to read
This is the story how the 'Famous Five' came into being, and of their very first adventure together. And what an adventure it was. Involving an island, a ruined castle, an ancient wreck, and a desperate treasure hunt! The children's pluck and resourcefulness saved the family fortunes and made possible many more exciting expeditions for the Five.

What a nostalgic little read! I absolutely LOVED this series as a child and my parents have returned my copies… hilariously I have written my name inside the front cover about 27 times 🤣

Fully expecting the series to have some problematic passages in the 21st century, but I really enjoyed this one!

My daughter's currently devouring this one. I told her I was about her age when I read this series & I absolutely loved it. She was surprised I still remembered small details of the plot (considering I was her age, oh, about 100 years ago 🙄) but then I told her I have actually read this book so many times I could probably recite it from memory 🤣

Absolutely love the vintage cover too. My copies in the early 80s had photos from a TV adaptation.

Amiable Wow, that cover is fabulous! 3y

#BookCoverChallenge
Day 46.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.

Day 5. Seven books that left a deep impression on me. #7days7books

I am on a nostalgia ride while sharing this. Enid Blyton has been a significant part of my childhood and reading life in general. All the credit goes to her for making me crave stories.

rockpools That has to be one of my favourites - and what a fun cover!! 5y

Reliving my childhood with Bella. Perfect night for reading adventure stories, snuggled up with the wind howling outside. Seth never got into the Famous Five and they felt dated, but I‘m seeing them again through my own 8 year old eyes re-reading with Bella who hangs on to every word. Also love this collection reissued with covers by different illustrators - the first two are Quentin Blake and Helen Oxenbury 💕 #raisingreaders

Andrew65 I was brought up on these! 6y
JillR Me too @andrew65! Just found out there are 21 altogether and I‘m sure I read them all! (Not sure I‘m going to commit to reading all 21 again with Bella 😂) (edited) 6y

It's always a risk returning to a much loved childhood story but I'm glad I did! The Famous Five are wonderful company, as they always were and this tale has stood the test of time. Great fun!

Anyone else get sucked in by the Enid Blyton box set at Aldi? Childhood memories and getting ten books for $8 - priceless. Now if they would just do the same with Nancy Drew. What other childhood favourites would you like in a box set?

BarbaraBB O Yes! I think I read them all! I wanted to be like George 😀 7y
quinas Oohhh I loved Enid Blyton. But strangely not the Famous Five. I was more into the Wishing Chair series when I was very young, then the school ones (Naughtiest Girl in School and the St Clare ones). I would love to have the Trixie Belden series, and actually have some, but they‘re disintegrating now😩 7y
Fernoppy @quinas oh Trixie Beldin! I loved them. I remember Naughtiest Girl in School. And Mallory Towers. 7y
quinas @fernoppy I think I even liked the Secret Seven more than the Famous Five! And the Children of Cherry Tree Farm. Can you imagine a group of kids wandering off with some strange dude on a “ramble” these days????? 7y

This is a first book in series and it was amazing, reading again about the characters and their adventures. And about the food!
I loved this one, but I think that here, the adventure and the mystery they have to discover are not in front - it's more about getting to know all the characters and their personalities. And how other books would look like.
It's still was a great read.

#junetunz #laislabonita I enjoy all the Famous Five books, but I particularly love the first, in which the five camp out on an island and explore for hidden treasure.

A blast from the past, Five on a Treasure Island. I think it was Enid Blyton who first gave me the love of reading. First with The Secret Seven, then followed by the Famous Five and many other books. Not to forget Noddy!

The ruins of Corfe Castle near Bournemouth inspired Enid Blyton to write The Famous Five, so it was a great experience to explore it both for me and my dad because we both devoured the books as children just starting to read! And we even saw a little girl with a Famous Five book in a cafe in the village next to the castle, just discovering stories and adventure herself!
The whole visit is such a precious memory!

Another childhood favourite for #favouritebookishaiblings for today's #augustphotochallenge 😊 In this the first Famous Five book siblings Julian, Dick and Anne meet their prickly cousin, George and her (amazing) dog, Timmy!

I own two complete sets of Famous Five books 💜

Slowly building up a ebook collection for my daughter. One that my pre-teen self would have been completely envious of. Enid Blyton - I grew up with her books and can't even imagine my daughters not doing the same.

shawnmooney I grew up a Blyton devotee as well. But I never got into her most famous series, The Famous Five; instead, I devoured everything else she wrote. 9y
MyBookLife I loved them! 9y
ramyasbookshelf @shawnmooney my favorite books were the five find outers series.. And then I was totally sucked in to the boarding school books :) 9y
