Triggers: Rape
An excellent YA novel (maybe slightly too YA for me) and definitely should be recommended reading for secondary school children to get to grips with rape culture and the affect it has. Also shows how powerful girls and women are when they come together with a common goal 👏
About to start The Nowhere Girls, freshly stamped with my new 'From The Library Of' Stamp. LOVE it.
I honestly liked this book a lot. It talks about the rape culture and the patriarchal society. I honestly wish there was more to it. #ya #contemporary
If you have any sexual assault triggers, this book is sure to cover them, with nearly every character getting assaulted, talking about assault, using harsh language, etc etc etc etc. I could potentially get passed that if it wasn't for the rest of the story that feels incredibly preachy, like a mom lecturing through the text, and lacks character development. All of the changes are bc a character 'suddenly realized' something randomly.
Plowing through for the book club discussion, but it's difficult to believe in a world where teenage girls use phrases like 'intersectional feminism' and boys at the same school are confused when buying a latte doesn't guarantee a hand job. :/
I wish I had been warned. A lot of triggers in just the first quarter of this book. Not sure it's worth continuing for a book club discussion.
I ended up loving this book and young girls everywhere should be required to read it. I was really surprised to read at the end how this was inspired by true events and goes to show why we need more books like this. The unlikely bond and friendship formed by these girls had me rooting for them til the end 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Reading on some downtime at work yesterday before being struck with a migraine. 😜
Absolutely loved this book! It's powerful and timely, and it showcases that you don't have to think of yourself as a leader, or fit the mold of a typical leader, in order to become one. Three unlikely girls come together to change the rape culture in their small town, trying to end the “boys will be boys“ attitude, the mentality that pits girls against one another, and the pressure that tells women to shut up and sit down.
The Nowhere Girls is about a group of girls who create a feminist movement in their school and fight against misogynist behavior and rape culture.
The book introduces us to three girls: one has aspergers syndrome, another is latina and lesbian, and lastly, we have the new overweight girl in school.
I simply loved this book and I will protect it with everything I‘ve got. Such an important story with a powerful message!
Rating: 5.0/5.0
It‘s YA, but it‘s interesting, hard hitting, important and well written. Also a reminder of some of the crap (young) women have to go through. Enjoyed it 👍🏻
It started off with only 3 dogs in bed with me tonight, now I have all 5.
Oh, the joys of dogsitting for my family.
They were giving me space earlier on in the night (as seen in the photo), but now I barely have any room. It's not comfortable. I'm losing sleep, but I hope they are at least enjoying the company.😂
Rape occurs frequently in h.s. & 3 girls decide enough is enough. They anonymously start a girls' group called “The Nowhere Girls“ where girls meet to talk about guys & create a manifesto with one item being girls will no longer have sex with guys. There is an online blog called “Real Men of Presscott High“ where one of the anonymous rapists brags about all of his conquests. It takes awhile for adults to do the right thing, but justice prevails.

Challenge: a book with purple on the cover

Hoping this is a good one :)
Hi guys!
So I know I don't have that many followers here and I'm not that popular, but I would really like to try this.
March is the #internationalwomensmonth
Since it's ending, I'd like for you to recommend books with strong female characters and have a good message to send to all the women/girls around the world so we could read them all year long not just in March.
I'd like for you to comment here or create your post and tag me. ❤📖

'In a town somewhere a girl named Lucy Moyniham knows her parents are talking to their lawyers again. She knows her rapists have been arrested and her case will finally go to trial. She knows her ghosts have been turned into news... Who knows what will actually end up happening? Who knows what justice even looks like? ... Is there even such a thing as justice? Nothing can bring back the girl Lucy was. Nothing can undo what happened.'
I have just finished this book and I am shattered. This book hit close to home and I loved every minute of it. Any recommendations of other books like this?
“Never in the history of the world has telling someone to calm down actually helped them calm down.” FACTS.
3% of rapist only spend a day in jail.
This story is about girls who are tired of the rape culture in their town. They band together and creat a group called The Nowhere Girls, where they can just be them and talk freely.
It took me awhile to read this book because it made me ragey. It made my stomach hurt because of the truth of how are society treats people are are sexually assaulted.
Warning: A LOT OF TRIGGERS.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
On #AdventRecommends Day 6 I present to you The Nowhere Girls.
Everyone should read this book because it is so good and it deals with such important topics.
-This book shows the bad side of our society that tries to put on a perfect facade ignoring serious problems within.
-Multiple POVs.
-The characters are really well developed (and diverse) and I love them so much.
CW: rape, sexual assault,...
Do read it. You'll probably love it.
Thank you Ali 😘 look forward to reading this !!
I haven‘t opened the birthday one as I‘ll save for the day!! ❤️💕
The card made me laugh so much....I have been once and hope never to go again...
#TheNowhereGirls was a good book, it hit harder and was more diverse than #Moxie. I recommend it to everyone who likes to read about girls who want to make their world a safer place.
Also the autumn 🍂 has reached my home and the streets are looking colour full- our own little Indian Summer 😌.

One of the books I bought in London. Fingers crossed that this one won‘t disappoint me too, I had some bad luck the last two weeks!
I heard it‘s compares to Moxie, which I enjoyed, although I thought it a little too white-feminist and a bit too tame.

A must read YA book in my opinion. (Trigger warning: Rape and sexual assault) I love the way the story was told by not only the 3 main characters, but there were chapters with the point of view of anonymous people as well. (I am awful at writing reviews, just trust me when i say this is SO worth reading.) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book! I‘m about 23% into it. As I‘m reading, I‘m shaking my head at parts and my heart is breaking. But, I can‘t put it down.
Just finished 3 books in the last day. I‘m feeling like a champion. Lol. Started this one today. 😍
Just read it! Girl/woman empowering, great message. Characters are very relatable. Since it‘s a YA novel, there is a bit too unrealistically perfect of an ending.
Three misfit, unpopular girls help unite all the girls at school to take a stand against rape culture, misogyny, and three serial gang rapists. 4.5⭐️
TW rape, sexual assault, domestic violence
I can only read a couple of chapters at a time before my blood starts to boil. Loving the spunk and bravery of these girls. So far the book is believable and true-to-life. I‘m excited to see how it ends. #metoo #yesallwomen #feminist
Thanks to @moarbookspleaze for reminding me about this book tonight. And thanks to @alisonrose and @Lindy for the glowing reviews. And final thanks to #evpl #overdrive for having a copy. Really enjoying it so far. Litsy for the win!
Obviously “heavy” doesn‘t begin to describe it. All the trigger warnings apply, but if you‘re able to read it, it‘s worth it if just for seeing this shit explored so well, the reality & hell of rape culture. I appreciate the author treating it right. Do wish there‘d been a better attempt at inclusion of the trans character & girls of color beside Rosina. Also the end felt a bit after school special-ish. But still powerful & important. 4/5 ⭐️
Never in the history of the world has telling someone to calm down actually helped them calm down.

This is gonna be tough to get through, isn‘t it? But worth it, I hope. #nowreading
Feminism to the max, including 3 unlikely teen avengers: Rosina, a lesbian Mexican American; Erin, Star Trek-loving & on the autism spectrum; and Grace, a fat new girl in town. Their target is rape culture in their school. Excellent incorporation of additional viewpoints, providing a wide variety of attitudes towards self-image and sex. The #audiobook has a small flaw: it‘s obvious when narrator Rebekkah Ross had to stop and restart mid-chapter.
Silence does not mean yes. No can be thought and felt but never said. It can be screamed silently on the inside. It can be in the wordless stone of a clenched fist, fingernails digging into palm. Her lips sealed. Her eyes closed. His body just taking, never asking, never taught to question silence.
You can always cram the wrong piece into the puzzle hole if you push hard enough and limit your definition of ‘fitting.‘
…those brave girls with boots and electric guitars, singing with voices made out of moss and rocks and rainstorms. Relics, artifacts. Everything worth anything happened a long time ago.

Oh my Godddd I loved this book so much. For sure one of the best books I‘ve ever read 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5/5
It is never not necessary to have this display. Unfortunately. I‘m pretty proud of this one, though. To see more of it and the list of titles, check my tumblr: https://mermaidinthelibrary.tumblr.com/post/170319365531/young-adult-books-on-my... #metoo
I‘m sorry, but I never get tired of sharing photos of my sweet pups. I gave them each a treat and now they‘ve been looking at me as if I‘m hiding a stash somewhere on my body. 😆 It‘s hard to read with them staring at me, and it‘s hard not to give them too many treats.
