I‘ve finished the 2nd Wallander book. It‘s not Mankell‘s best book but still a ‘pick‘ I liked that it was mainly set in Latvia. Made a nice change.

There‘s a formality when a novel is translated. It gives me a sense of one dimensionality. I find it very difficult to engage. I‘m sure in the original language this book is highly enjoyable; but for me? Not so much.

I‘m very pleased to read another view of Latvia especially given the very dark picture of it from the tagged (but excellent) book.

5-star book. 2 bodies wash up on shore in Sweden in a life raft, leading to a terrifying trip into #Latvia for Inspector Wallander to uncover multiple crimes that, if solved, could spell freedom for a nation. I‘ve watched the entire Wallander BBC series (it‘s great), but they don‘t compare to this, the first book I‘ve read in the series. If you want a sense of life under Soviet rule, this is it. #readingeurope2020

Chrissyreadit I loved the original Series also with subtitles. Someday I hope I can read the books. 3y
Librarybelle I read the first in the series and really liked it...hope to get to this one soon! 3y
Texreader @BarbaraBB Thanks! Great book! 3y
Texreader @Crazeedi @Cathythoughts @Chrissyreadit @Librarybelle I skipped ahead to this book because of Latvia. Didn‘t intend to read the series but looks like I may have to eventually because this one was so good. Fortunately it‘s in the husband‘s collection and he has most if not all of the Wallander books 3y

This is it! All I have left to finish #readingeurope2020. I‘m more than halfway finished with the tagged book for #Latvia. Less than ten to go! I‘m a very slow reader and we have #wintergames about to start but I‘m in the hunt to finish in 2020!

Librarybelle Good luck! You got this! 3y
Bookwormjillk Wow, that‘s impressive! 3y

Laughterhp Wow, so impressive. I think I was only able to read like 8-10 countries for this. 3y
freeatlast1137 You can do it!!! 3y
Texreader @Librarybelle @Bookwormjillk @valeriegeary @freeatlast1137 Thanks for the support! I‘m gonna need it! @Laughterhp That‘s not bad at all given how hard it is to find books for many of the countries. I ended up with some real duds for a few countries 3y
BarbaraBB Are you a slow reader? I always feel like you‘re a reading machine 😀😘 3y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick You can do it! 3y
Texreader @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Thanks for the encouragement! It‘s going to be crazy hard for me. But I‘m sure going to try! 3y
Texreader @BarbaraBB 🤣🤣 Oh I wish. I just have been making lots more time to read when I would have been doing other things (like vegging in front of the tv). And audiobooks help a lot so I can read when driving, cleaning, and crafting. I used to read so fast and I loved chunksters that were well over 1000 pages. I still do but they‘d take me all year. 😕 3y

I would not have read this had I not been participating in #ReadingEurope2020. I'm glad that this challenge has pushed me to read books I normally wouldn't. @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle

This dark crime novel was fast paced and well written. I was instantly drawn into the story and loved the journey to discover what really happened.

I will definitely look for more books by this author now.

Librarybelle This one is on my to read list! 3y

This is Mankell‘s second Wallander novel but can be read as a stand alone. Investigation led Inspector Kurt Wallander of the Swedish police force to Riga in #Latvia where he is drawn to a complex conspiracy and web of corruption. Very bleak, full of tension..I enjoyed it and may seek out the others in the series.

5 ⭐ Mankell is definitely an auto-buy author for me. #Thriller #jennyis30

Other challenge prompts:
First country for #readingeurope2020 - #Latvia @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB
Fourth book for #murder2020 @Tove_Reads
Sixth letter for #litsyatoz @BookishMarginalia

BarbaraBB Mankell has a book set in Latvia? That so good to know! 4y
jenniferw88 @BarbaraBB it starts in Sweden and does feature a couple of others, but I'd say Latvia is the main one. 4y

Cinfhen This one sounds good and less gory than the other book u posted 6y
Cathythoughts @Cinfhen maybe less gorey , to be fair they are all very good. Wallander‘s character develops & grows & changes along the way. 6y

Mehso-so

2017 #71 mystery audio book two of a series I wasn't enamoured with in the first place. I'm just not sure a police officer would do the things he does and end the way it does. It's kind of like a Scandinavian Lee Child's or Bourne series but all while pretending to be a city version of Longmire. *

I borrowed this from the library a while back and really enjoyed it. Two bodies wash up on Sweden's shores, but the clues lead back to Latvia. Definitely an #internationalcrime. #day25 #feistyfeb
