In this nonfiction account, two woman travel around the world in opposite directions to try and beat Julie Verne‘s Around the World in 80 Days. These woman were trailblazers in 1889, traveling alone and unaided as they captivated the attention of the country.

A patient friend lent me this book a while back ( like a year) and I have yet to open its spine...
#litsypartyofone plus pup. A beautiful day after a snowy few. A great time to read about two women in the 1900s racing around the world (in hopefully less) than 80 days.
Every museum trip is the same - I'm on a bench, reading, within 90 minutes. This seems to be a fitting title to read in a museum. #artinstituteofchicago #eightydays #nelliebly #museumbench
Most of my nonfiction books are celebrity memoirs, but I really enjoy narrative nonfiction too! I won a copy of Eighty Days on Goodreads while I was in college studying journalism and it was AMAZING. I will read anything about any aspect of Nelly Bly's life, but this story in particular was fascinating. #nonfictionlove #17booklove
#TBRtemptation post! Now *this* looks like a rollicking good narrative history read about an unknown event that we should have probably all been taught in school, even if only in brief. This is the kind of topic that captures kids' imaginations, no? Looking forward to buying this one and digging in. I'm going to have to eat some hotdogs and popcorn while reading this, it just has that kind of feel about it. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
Taking Audiobook Suggestions: I started listening to Eighty Days but found I'm far too pissed off to have to listen to Nellie Bly list the lame excuses and reasons why she couldn't be a journalist - her womanly constitution and no dick weren't helping her. I can't listen to that right now. Too fired up. So, I need your help! I need a great listen right now! I can't do anything about oppressed, missing, lost, forsaken women though. I'm listening!
One of those books that leads to other books- in my case, to Nellie Bly's own account of her adventure and to the Jules Verne classic which inspired the whole thing.
Happy 152nd birthday to Nellie Bly, an unstoppable American journalist who spent 10 days undercover in a psychiatric hospital and raced Elizabeth Bisland around the world. Looking forward to this part of my summer reading stack.
This book and these ladies are super inspiring and definitely grab your attention. A lengthy work of nonfiction, but a great look into the life of a lady journalist near the turn of the century and the enormous stunts papers would pull to gain readers.
