Introducing Mindfulness
Introducing Mindfulness: A Practical Guide | Tessa Watt
8 posts | 1 to read
Mindfulness is growing in popularity as a technique which teaches us to appreciate our life. This Practical Guide explores how to listen to your body to reduce stress and anxiety in all areas of your life; how to focus better at work by becoming more aware of what is happening in the present, and how to enjoy life more by bringing mindfulness into everyday actions.

Our week 3 activity is to take 5 minutes to think about mindfulness and what it means to you.

😌 Do you practice it?
😌 What works for you?
😌 Do you have any tips or recommendations?
😌 What have you done for your self-care this week?

All welcome to join us in the discussion.

TheBookHippie @AllDebooks My Bubbe - We don't have to say everything we think. Me- I don't... Bubbe -OY ... (edited) 2d
dabbe I did practice screaming obscenities when I was alone in the house, and it really did help! 😂🤩🤗 @TheBookHippie (edited) 2d
kspenmoll Oh this is too funny! Thank you for the hilarity here! Screaming obscenities! @TheBookHippie @dabbe. Screaming in the car is my jam! On the plus side, I do yoga stretches- just 10 min in morning, sit w coffee & contemplate on my day ahead & facing it with love hope & compassion. 2d
TheBookHippie @dabbe I do it daily. Very therapeutic. @kspenmoll 2d
dabbe @TheBookHippie @kspenmoll The yelling or the yoga? Or both? Hey, we could start a new trend! We could call it #yellingyoga! 🤩😂🤩 2d
TheBookHippie @dabbe BOTH. And yes let‘s start a trend!!!! 2d
TheBookHippie @dabbe the sun salutation is easy quick and very good for you. Especially to keep range of motion post menopause 🫣🫠😵‍💫😝😭😝 however I‘ve done it for 35 years. 2d
dabbe @TheBookHippie I've done that one before! I need to go back and do it. It's so good for stretching out every part of your body. What a great start to the day! 😘 2d

❄️Do you practice mindfulness?
🩵I try

❄️Is it something you're interested in?
🩵Very much so

❄️How do you practice?
🩵A friend chooses a guided YouTube meditation for me each morning and emails it to me.
🩵I have a few apps I like for breath work & meditation.
🩵I have an online yoga teacher who gears classes & talks to students with chronic illnesses

❄️Do you have recommendations for anyone new to it?
👇🏼👇🏼

IndoorDame ❄️Start with something that feels easy to tune into - like the tactile sensation of washing the dishes, or the sounds on your daily walk… then try to tune into that thing every day 12mo
AllDebooks These are great answers. It took me a while to get into it. I found the easiest way was focusing on my morning drink, the smell, heat, taste, it's a fab way to start the day x 12mo

🍁 Does any of the above change with the seasons?

Please share your thoughts/tips. Maybe we will pick up something new to try.

gossamerchild I recently discovered the power of Vitamin D. I know that sounds silly, but apparently that makes a big impact on how well you sleep/feel rested. So that's my biggest self-care tip. I'm not good at mindfulness-I'm constantly anxious about the future and sad about the past. Reading helps me, as well as exercise when I'm feeling up to it. And embroidery-that's a COVID hobby I picked up and it works really well to center me. 14mo
julieclair I would like to cultivate a mindfulness habit. Daily meditation or something like that. For relaxation I like to do audiopuzzling. Listening to an audiobook while doing a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. 14mo
AllDebooks @gossamerchild Vit D is essential to get you thru the darker months. I bought a SAD lamp and that helped enormously. Great that you keep yourself busy to refocus your mind away from anxiety x 14mo
AllDebooks @julieclair Great tip. I've just started getting into puzzles too. 14mo

I had a lot of fun with #SelfImprovementSept (Today - Mindfulness and Self-Reflection). Thank you both, @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks and @OriginalCyn620 , for a very thoughtful photo challenge. It was definitely a feel-good month with that much self-reflection, self-affirmation, self-love and mindfulness.😉 I‘m floating high from this long look in the mirror and saturation of self-awareness, the world around me and my footprint 👣 in it!💕

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thank you for playing ❤️ It was a great month!! 5y
OriginalCyn620 So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing along! 🙌🏻😊❤️ 5y
