A fast-paced, humor-filled adventure with great popular culture references. The last half became a bit too much. Too many characters with too much happening for very strange reasons. Fun but not my cup of tea.

Okay. I think I‘m an Ernest Cline fan girl. 😂 5/5 ⭐️ Alien invasion, meets video game, and a ton of X-files references. 🛸 Perfect combo to end my Saturday night while painting this cutie! #paintedrock #fangirl #ufo

Day 288.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
A fun ride.... “You're Welcome“ This was a amazing novel! Love the way this author captures the what-if moment of a alien invasion. 👽
Catching up on beach reading reviews! Honestly, this book felt like Mary-Sue fan fiction. After all, it's the ultimate wish fulfillment - protagonist Zack finds out that his favorite video game is real, and his gaming skills are needed to defend the earth! Basically, the reliance on 80s and sci-fi tropes that worked so well in Ready Player One just feel like clichès here, and it feels like Cline can only write one kind of protagonist.
I‘ve had this on my list for a while. It is very similar to a movie I‘ve seen before. I‘m not sure which came first and there was surprises I wasn‘t expecting, but it wasn‘t as unique as I was hoping.
It was as expected. If you have read Ready Player One it is like that mixed with Ender‘s Game. Heavy on the 80s pop culture with the idea of using video games to train unsuspecting kids to go up against an alien invasion. Good read. It had a few more emotional threads than i remember being in Ready Player One. But definitely a good quick palate cleanser after a heavy book

This is to clear my head after the last book. A little bit of light alien ready before figuring out what the weekend read will be! Plus, its ready by the super nerd who somehow became famous Wil Wheaton. (Stand by me is obviously left out of that quandry)
I really enjoyed Ready Player One, though the writing was not the best. Have Ready Player Two on hold at the library.

Pretty sick.
I admit I was lost for a few moments three quarters of the way through because I thought there were serious issues with the plot, but then I figured out what was going on—that there wasn‘t anything wrong—and I fell right back into the story again.
Cline just has a prose style that makes it so dang readable. I love the world building here (top notch), love the adventure, and the sheer cinematic feel of it. Can‘t wait for the movie.
The only legitimate use of a computer is to play games. #armada #ernestcline
I really enjoyed this book. Loved that it was narrated by one of my sci-fi favorite character from Star Trek. It is a great story and I am going to have to limit what I say so as not to give away stuff. I am hoping that Mr. Cline is writing books two as we speak because it is not complete in my humble opinion. Loved it still.
Since Ready Player 2 is not available yet and I did enjoy Ready Player I have decided to check out some more of Ernest Cline's work. Jumping on the Armada. Hope I won't be disappointed.
The first third of this book was way too heavy on the video game aspect at the expense of character development. As I'm not into video games I was bored. It does start to pick up after that and I did mostly enjoy the story but I think (as I rarely do!) that this would be better as a movie. I also think it suffers by comparison to his first novel, Ready Player One.
All in all not wonderful but not too bad for my April #bookspin
@TheAromaofBooks
My April #bookspin and another bloom on my orchid to start my weekend. 😊🌺
Oooh I'm excited for both of these. Just have a couple library holds to get through first. Tagged book is the #bookspin and the other one is my potential #doublespin

Really did enjoy this! Ready Player One is probably one of my favorite books. I was really looking forward to this one. I knew going in that this would not be as good but I did enjoy it. I think this book would make for a great movie! I rated it 4 stars!
Started reading this book! I adored Ready Player One. Looking forward to this book! Happy reading y'all!
Was a huge fan of Ready Player One and couldn't wait to listen to this one... It did not disappoint! And the narration by Will Wheaton is a cherry on top!

From the author of Ready Player One (which is one of my favorite books)!
🌟🌟🌟🌟
A scintillating fun read. It has enough to keep you interested. I liked the main character and the sacrifice some of them had to make. I particularly liked the ending.
And now starting!!!
I don't believe that this would as exciting as READY PLAYER ONE just because nothing could be but I think I would enjoy it just the same!!!
Congrats @Megabooks on your huge milestone! 🎉🎈🎉❤🎈🎉
The tagged book was one of my favorites this summer in part because it made me nostalgic for my childhood due to all the sci-fi/fantasy references, but I also loved Wil Wheaton's narration!

Slightly less awesome than Ready Player One, which is OK because it's its own thing. I was still mightily entertained. I'm still thinking about the ending (not sure I'm all in on that). I love, love, love Wil Wheaton narrating Cline's books!
This was definitely a 5-star. I was pretty mad for about 50% of the book because it seemed the same as Ready Player One, but...Then the plot really kicked into high gear, and I was floored. I was also very emotionally invested and SO SAD for the sacrifices that had to be made to ensure that the human race wasn't destroyed. I feel for Zach...
I'm excited to see how this is. I hope it's not too close to Ready Player One 😅 #scifi #dystopian #YA
⭐⭐⭐
This book seems to be a love letter to science fiction. Story-wise it was just ok, with a predictable plot and characters who are somewhat one dimensional. I think the strongest aspect of it is the fun factor from all the references - most of these I didn't get, to be honest. Overall, it was mildly entertaining, but a bit disappointing if you compare it to Ready Player One - which had a much stronger plot.
Finished book 2 on my quest to get #24B4Monday. This is somewhere between a pick and meh. Too predictable, but still some geeky fun. My full review on GR: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2801465895
And, my time is closer to 14:52. There‘s about 4 hours where I was reading but forgot to turn the timer on. 🤦🏼♀️ But despite that brain fart, I‘m hoping to make it to 24hrs tomorrow. 😀
It's Been A Good Day For Books part 1: supported an indie store for #independantbookstoreday AND got in and out before the celebration they were set up for started. 😊 (No crowds for me!) #tatteredcover
Multi-tasking—dog walking while logging time for #24B4Monday & #25inFive. #audiodogwalk #dogsoflitsy
Got almost a 1/2 hour in this morning before work. (Stupid work always getting in the way of fun.) But it‘s still morning here on the west coast 😀 Plenty of reading time left today to make my #24B4Monday and #25inFive readathon goals!
Boy this book was a ride. Has good characters and good plot. Maybe a little predictable at times but it was still a good read. If you liked Ernest Cline first book ready player one you will like this book!!
Another great novel! Although there were some parts which were a little bit predictable, i could not put it down. I loved the constant reference to the 80s.
I can not wait to see what Ernest Cline publishes next.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
I liked Ready Player One better, but this was pretty good too. Wil Wheaton does a great job.
A book all about video games and how they can change the world, heart wrenching at times, hilarious at others.
Makes me think of the training simulations in Cline‘s Armada
A summary of the last month. I cant believe i managed 14 books in one month. I thought i was getting one book every 3/4 days but it seems I'm reading more than that.
For the worst I've put The Giver. It wasn't a bad book, far from it, but it made me cry a lot so it's been my personal worst point
We are coming here to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and we have no more bubblegum! ~ pg. 266
New favorite quote!
Warning super vague spoilers
Why has nearly every book this week made me cry?? That ending was dumb and it needs to be re-written
Look what Funko Pop figure I found!! I ❤️Rey!

Almost a Pick 3ish ⭐⭐⭐
There were lots of Star Wars references, which I appreciated, but most of the other video game and movie references I did not get 😂
It's interesting that the author decided to write another 80s pop culture themed book like Ready Player One (which I loved) but to me, this one fell slightly short
