Thank you @dabbe for posting these, I love a good list! 1. My favourite is Pride & Prejudice ( an adaptation is playing in our local theatre and we have tickets next Friday 🎉 2. I‘ve never read The Great Gatsby and I don‘t think I ever will so my kids can always say they‘ve read something I haven‘t 🤣 3. I‘ve got On the Road beside my bed to read and maybe this will be the summer I finally do 🤷🏻‍♀️ no tagging cuz I‘m a day late

Not the biggest fan of the book, but this ballet production was wonderful! The dancing was beautiful and the visuals were stunning!

(1925) I was an English major, so I've read about and talked about and occasionally made references to Gatsby. But I never took a course that required it: it's always been a text I intended to get around to.

Turns out it's brilliant, and I should have read it long ago. I'll certainly read it again.

I know it is a classic. And im glad I finally read it. But man, was it boring. One good lesson though, money can't buy you everything.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't read this. I was always a slow reader and my teachers made me feel bad about it. So instead of trying and failing, I just didn't try. But I was at my local bookshop and they have these beautiful editions of various classics so I picked it up 😊 ready to knock it off the list.

I know that many people consider this to be one of the cornerstones of American literature. But, to be honest, I think there are better works out there.

While the ending is sad, for the most part, this book is pretty unremarkable.

Narration was alright. Monotone and matching the vanilla character of Nick Caraway.

Can listen to it if you want to check off a seminal work. But not really life changing (at least to me).

What a coincidence -- I was just thinking about this as a reading challenge for next year!

I don't directly lie about reading something I haven't -- well, not since my undergraduate days -- but there are several books that I've read about and heard about enough that I've sometimes talked about them *as if* I've read them. This review made me lol. I like Gatsby but I recall this feeling after several Edith Wharton and Henry James novels.

These books are so fun

I read The Great Gatsby in high school, and I enjoyed it. But that‘s been a while ago, so I decided it was time for a reread. Surprisingly enough my thoughts are still similar to the thoughts I had in high school. I still enjoyed it I just wish there was more character development. Plus, I‘d love to hear Gatsby‘s full back story.

Another reread, this time in audio. It was an interesting experience as hearing Daisy‘s speech inflections made her a more interesting character then when I just read the novel to myself.

Fitzgerald is amazing to listen to as an audio book, his sophisticated use of imagery and rhythm create poetic flow. The great Gatsby, uses this poetic devices when describing gatsbys enchanting parties which makes the novel immensely engaging. This novel compares to others of Fitzgerald, has a romanticised notion of ALL women, compared to that of the beautiful and the burdened that juxtaposes women against each other. It was a fun read. 4/5

A year ago my work friends and I coped with the world ending by blogging our reread of Pride and Prejudice. We had a blast and decided to make it an annual tradition. This year we are doing The Great Gatsby, and are hoping to get some more student involvement 😊

I've read this book numerous times, and yet i still despise all the characters! That may be the whole point of the story! Pretty cover though!

The spoils from my building‘s Book Exchange from last wk & some of my b‘day hamper from my sister that arrived yesterday a wk early. So much food & the most beautiful wine. These are the type of things that make social distancing fun. I didn‘t realise that Eve Babitz had slept with Jimbo from The Doors, I‘ve watched the movie Perfume but haven‘t read the book! It‘s a great movie, the tagged book is one of my favs. I also enjoyed the latest movie.
