I‘m super impressed that this portrait of a neighborhood over many years actually came to life with all its misfits and misanthropes. And I did enjoy the writing style. That said, 800+ pgs with no real plot thread and no likable characters was rough!

Daisey I‘m not loving it, and I keep keep thinking this is one that might have been better if I‘d just powered through instead of sticking with the chapter a day. 13mo

#chapteraday reading is my favorite way to start the day. I‘ll often add a classic from my own shelves to this pile. My morning reading for January are these #pemberlittens selections and ~20 pages of Leaves of Grass.

👀 Most men thought her bewitching when she was on horseback. She loved the fresh air and the various aspects of the country, and when her eyes and cheeks glowed with mingled pleasure she looked very little like a devotee. Riding was an indulgence which she allowed herself in spite of conscientious qualms; she felt that she enjoyed it in a pagan sensuous way, and always looked forward to renouncing it.
