Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo
Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo | Amy Schumer
Amy s got your back. She s in your corner. She s an honesty bomb. And she s coming for you. Actress Tilda Swinton and "Trainwreck "co-star The Emmy Award-winning comedian, actress, writer, and star of "Inside Amy Schumer "and the acclaimed film "Trainwreck" has taken the entertainment world by storm with her winning blend of smart, satirical humor. Now, Amy Schumer has written a refreshingly candid and uproariously funny collection of ("extremely") personal and observational essays. In "The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo," Amy mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh. Down to earth and relatable, frank and unapologetic, Amy Schumer is one of us: she relies on her sister for advice, still hangs out with her high school pals, and continues to navigate the ever-changing boundaries in love, work and life. Ranging from the raucous to the romantic, the heartfelt to the harrowing, this highly entertaining and universally appealing collection is the literary equivalent of a night out with your best friend an unforgettable and fun adventure that you wish could last forever. Whether she s experiencing lust-at-first-sight while in the airport security line, sharing her own views on love and marriage, admitting to being an introvert, or discovering her cross-fit instructor s secret bad habit, Amy Schumer proves to be a bighearted, brave, and thoughtful storyteller that will leave you nodding your head in recognition, laughing out loud, and sobbing uncontrollably but only because it s over."

I was surprised how much I loved this book. I always thought Amy Schumer was hilarious & thought it would be just that. This book makes me adore Amy the person. She reminds me of one of my most cherished friends. Others saw the life of the party, if she was invited everyone was guaranteed to have an awesome time. BUT if you look closer, you see someone so special it makes you feel blessed. Amy is one of these gems- yes, funny but so much more.

After knowing only Amy Schumer's name and being largely unfamiliar with any of her work, I wasn't sure how I would enjoy her memoir. I gave it a shot and I'm so glad I did! I related to her more than I expected to and she made me laugh.

I didn't love this. I thought the best chapter was when she talks seriously about gun violence.

If you‘re a fan of Amy Schumer‘s comedy then you will love this book! She does a nice job balancing her sense of humor with sentimental and serious anecdotes. It would also make an excellent beach read.

In case the outside world becomes unmanageable, or I actually get sick and have to self-quarantine, I'm spending today preparing plenty of meals that can be frozen and saved. But I need a funny audiobook to keep myself motivated. Trying out this one! I hope everyone is staying safe and washing their hands!! 💜 take care of yourselves.

This book is also incredibly funny and skips smoothly between the serious and hilarious and often combines the two.
I especially liked the brave description of the abuse she'd suffered. Too often we think 'if that was me I'd...' but her responses to the situations are much more likely. Those skewed power dynamics are all too common and I have massive respect for Amy for recognising that for the bullshit that it is and speaking out about it.

For an autobiographical book, which is not my choice of genre, I really enjoyed this. Schumer is funny and unfiltered and speaks candidly about both funny and tough topics.

A good one to listen to while at the gym and doing chores. The essays are a good mixture of humorous and serious. Was impressed by how she shared her vulnerability and her experiences both growing up and working to become a comedian. Learned a lot about how comedians first get work and make their way up the ladder. I‘ve never watched her show or scene train wreck but she came across as very relatable in this book. #audiobook

Book 43 of the year, finished June 3, audio

Another attempt at nonfiction, I did enjoy this more than the last one but still rather eh.

My biggest irritation: if you're going to advocate for female sexual empowerment, please know that the vulva, labia, and clitoris are all separate from the vagina. Then use the appropriate word for the body part you're talking about. We can't be empowered if we don't know the names of our body parts.

Audiobook. It was a fun company and touched issues like self image, which hit home. I thought it was going to be a complete waste of time but I really liked it. Light, but also deep in many levels, funny and warm.

Both my memory and my LibraryThing tell me that I own this in hardcover; but I can't for the life of me put my hands on it today. Anyway, I listened via Overdrive.

Amy Schumer is always the first person to point out her own faults and poor decisions (apparently plentiful and my least favorite parts of the book). Overall, however, she comes across as a funny, kind, and determined woman.

I'm not a devoted fan, but I appreciate her positives.

Post 2 of 3. I've been wanting to read this for a while, glad I finally did. There were several parts that made me laugh out loud, and parts that were surprisingly sad. She may be pretty controversial, but I find her to be funny some of the time and I like that she can mix in the 'life as a celebrity' parts along with the 'I'm a normal person just like you' parts without it seeming fake or too braggy.

Audiobook. Pretty good, narration by Amy Schumer which was perfect. Rye, funny but definitely not for the faint of heart or easily shocked or offended. These are her stories, funny, crude and sad but ultimately she conveys how self-assured she is in her own skin. Quick listen but wear headphones!

At the risk of sounding asshole-ish, I was super pleasantly surprised at Schumer and her memoir. While having the raunchy humor able to use words like "poop hole" and "vagina" freely, she is also smart and kind and refreshingly adorable, naming one of the things she loves being a smaller animal riding a bigger animal. Who doesn't love that CUTENESS? And she had some legitimate issues that she faced that I really related to. Solid listen ?

RamsFan1963 I always enjoyed her standup, but I was surprised by the depth and intelligence of her book. I've recommended it to fans and non-fans alike. 6y
LoverofLit @RamsFan1963 Completely agreed. I went into it expecting her standard raunchy humor and was impressed with the depth. 6y

I will always love her crude jokes. Great audiobook so far.

I cringed and laughed when she said something along the lines of... "I truly admire and envy a man's one simplistic need to put his dick in any wet hole. How easy my life would be if that was all I needed." ???

Ddzmini But she tells it like it is... in a way that we can laugh and enjoy the truth 🤣🤣🤣 6y

VERY rarely do I completely bail on a book.I‘m a ‘power through it no matter what!‘ Kind of reader, but this book? It is so horrible I thought I‘d do more harm to myself if I continued reading it. What irked me the most was all the foul language. It seemed barely a page could go by before using the ‘f‘ bomb. She also enjoyed using the c word for girls. That isn‘t humor and it shows no intellect.Doesn‘t hold a candle to Tina, Amy P & Mindy‘s books.

I so liked her vulnerability in the retelling of her younger years & abusive relationship... but I wasn't blown away. Though I was right there with her, emotionally, when she was describing her past w/ her father, how she maintains her positive attitude when other people degrade her based on her looks, or how she hustled her way to where she is now. I'd definitely recommend to fans of celebrity memoirs or humor- but definitely get the audiobook.

I think I‘m a bit biased here because I really like Amy Schumer. I enjoy her acting and comedy and find her to be very genuine and this book just reinforced that for me. She doesn‘t shy away from the truth in any of her essays and in that makes herself accessible and real to the reader. She also is funny and smart and unflinchingly honest in this book which are all the traits that I love about her. I enjoyed this and couldn‘t put it down.

I finished this #audiobook just as the #readathon was wrapping up. I managed 6 hours despite my chronic illness throwing me a curveball, and I look forward to reading about y'all's readathon experiences! (After a nap 😴) Even when I can barely participate, I love joining with readers around the world in this event. ❤️

LauraBrook Wish I would‘ve thought of this book for the thon - I‘ll pull it up for October! Excellent job! Chronic stuff just does not care what you want to do, which sucks big time.
