Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe, The
Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe, The | Romain Puertolas
For readers of The One-Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared, a funny, charming, feel-good story about a fake fakir from India who arrives in France to shop at IKEA and unwittingly embarks on a European tour like no other. One day a fakir leaves his small village in India and lands in Paris. A professional con artist, the fakir is on a pilgrimage to IKEA, where he intends to obtain an object he covets above all others: a brand new bed of nails. Without adequate Euros in the pockets of his silk trousers, the fakir is all the same confident that his counterfeit 100-Euro note (printed on one side only) and his usual bag of tricks will suffice. But when a swindled cab driver seeks his murderous revenge, the fakir accidentally embarks on a European tour, fatefully beginning in a wardrobe of the iconic Swedish retailer. As his journey progresses in the most unpredictable of ways, the fakir finds unlikely friends in even unlikelier places. To his surprise the stirrings of love well up in the heart of our hero, even as his adventures lead to profound and moving questions of the perils of emigration and the universal desire to seek a better life in an often dangerous world. The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Was Trapped in an IKEA Wardrobe is a hilarious tale that evokes the manic energy of a Marx Brothers romp witha dose of incisive social commentary. Take an unforgettable tour of Europe propelled by laughter, love and redemption.

It was not the amount you gave that counted, but simply the gesture of giving.

GondorGirl That's such a unique title! 2y
KateKintail @GondorGirl it was definitely the title that attracted me to the book! 🤣 2y

Needed a curtain rod, so we strolled through IKEA this late afternoon/early evening. No TBR cart for me, though. I was just too stingy. We had (veggie) hot dogs - - so much for eating out. 😁

Wondering why it didn't count installing the curtain rod as active minutes. It was my stair master program today. 😉

rockpools You INSTALLED the curtain rods too? Fitbit counts/doesn‘t count really weird things as active minutes! Congratulations on extreme steppiness this week! 5y
julesG @RachelO Yes, I installed them. But, it was reasonably easy. I only had to screw the holders into wood. Extreme ergotherapy - holding screws in numb fingers was a challenge. I can show off the result tomorrow, it's dark outside now. 5y
britt_brooke Love this! 5y

julesG @britt_brooke A moving step ladder would just be the thing. Up three steps, down three steps, push it to the right/left, up three steps,... But then I would not have got so many steps in. 5y
britt_brooke @julesG It‘s all about those steps! 😆 I will go out of my way to get more right now. It‘s pretty great, but makes me laugh that I‘m always thinking about it. 5y
wanderinglynn Way to go! 🙌🏻 Walking around IKEA is definitely a trek! 5y

Thanks for the tag @Texreader.

#wondrouswednesday @Eggs

1) not really. Some friends call me Jules 😉
2) tagged
3) tend to avoid books that are all the rage atm
4) very important, can put me off (author's name larger than title, picture I don't like) and lure me in (I'm a sucker for sparkly covers)
5) Tag you're it!

Eggs Thanks for joining in 🤗👏🏻❣️ 6y

(catching up) This is the first book I've read in 2018! It's a weird journey, full of action. Quite funny, but watch out! In-between smiles, this book will slap you back to the grim reality experienced by illegal immigrants.

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @vivastory The LSU library was having their annual sale and THEN the Jefferson Parish library sale (Kenner, Louisiana) was happening at the same time. We had it all planned - LSU first, hour drive to Kenner, then sandwiches at The Grilled Cheezy. Woo hoo! 8y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled @Chelsea.Poole thanks! Good to know! I loved Salt to the Sea so I got this one too. 8y
vivastory @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Is The Grilled Cheezy exactly what it sounds like? If so, i'm insanely jealous 8y

Mehso-so

Great title, so-so book. It started off okay but eventually just became too repetitive, with the same jokes over and over.

Tarlia Great title indeed. Sorry to hear the story didn't live up to it. 9y
