Crochet and Cauldrons
Crochet and Cauldrons: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery | Nancy Warren
15 posts | 13 read | 4 to read
Every family has annoying relatives; mine just happen to be undead. My Grandmother, Agnes Bartlett, used to own Cardinal Woolsey's knitting shop in Oxford then died and left her shop to me, without informing me that she wasn't actually dead. She's a vampire and part of the world's strangest craft circle - the Vampire Knitting Club.As you might imagine, this means she's free to interfere in how I run the business that used to be hers. She's trying to teach me to knit and it's not going well. She's also trying to teach me how to be a witch, since it turns out I'm from a long line of witches. Another tiny detail about my family that no one ever told me, along with the long-lost witch cousins I recently discovered. But I'm learning. I've got my family spell book, my black cat familiar, some powers that sometimes scare me, and an interesting new group of friends. My archaeologist parents are coming to visit and bringing me a gift I could do without. So, to recap, I run a knitting shop and I can't knit. I'm a beginning witch who can't always control her cat, never mind her magic, and my love life is as tangled as the last sock I tried to knit. Oh, and for some reason, I keep getting involved in murder investigations. Good thing I have my vampire knitters to help sniff out clues. At least I've finally hired the perfect assistant, a real demon with the crochet hook. Or is she too perfect?Crochet and Cauldrons is the third book in the Vampire Knitting Club series of fun, paranormal cozy mysteries.Grab yours today!"I was up until 2 a.m. I just couldn't stop reading." ***** Five star Amazon review of Frosted Shadow, a Toni Diamond mystery."Loved it! For the #FangtasticReadathon, it seemed appropriate to choose a book featuring vampires. In this case, there's a whole knitting club full of vampires!

I even managed to fit in an hour of audiobook listening during the #scarathonsprint today.

I can't believe it's March already! Here's what I read this month. I enjoyed them all to be honest

I loved that the author added in more mentions of crochet to the books. Though I have to admit I'll now think of this story when I crochet dolls. I thought the mystery of this one was a bit obvious but that definitely didn't take away from the enjoyment of the book.

Roary47 These look super cute. 2y

There wasn't much mystery to this cozy mystery as the killer was ridiculously obvious. I still like the side characters more than the main character. It's an enjoyable world to hang out in even if there's no mystery to the mystery. I'll be reading the next one just because it's Christmas themed! #MerryReaders #WinterGames2020 TBR read 16 pts

Knit three rows & my needles came apart but I guessed the correct murderer again so 🤷‍♀️

Clare-Dragonfly Oh, no! Can the needles be put back together? If they are KnitPicks needles, I‘ve heard KP will repair/replace. 3y
StaceGhost 🙏🏻 @Clare-Dragonfly They‘re an interchangeable set. I guess I‘m not tightening them correctly? I reattached and tightened them again but I kind of wish I hadn‘t gotten the set now and just bought the ones I needed lol 3y

The Eagle and Child pub in Oxford has officially made my literary tourism wishlist 🤓

Anyone been?

tpixie Cool! Tolkien & CS Lewis met there as part of the Inklings! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Eagle_and_Child @Daisey (edited) 5y
Brooke_H Yes! I have been there. Oxford is chock full of Tolkien/Lewis stuff to see. (And also Lewis Carroll!) 5y
ShyBookOwl @Brooke_H Neat!! Must be pretty touristy, come to think of it. But I'd love to have a pint there, nonetheless. 5y

Brooke_H @ShyBookOwl It‘s honestly not. The food is good. It‘s like any other pub. Full of college kids. I love Oxford. I would live there in a heartbeat. 5y
ShyBookOwl @Brooke_H oh damn! Yay! Now I'm even more into it lol 5y
bookandbedandtea Ooooh me too! Thanks for posting. 5y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk I‘ve been! It‘s a Literary Mecca for Middle-earth/Narnia fans. The Inklings used to call it “the Bird and Baby”. 5y
ShyBookOwl @TobeyTheScavengerMonk awesome! This book goes on to refer to it that way too 5y
rabbitprincess My family and I had dinner there on our trip to Oxford two years ago and the food was great! I had a steak and ale pie and mashed potatoes...soooooo good! We also went to The White Horse, which of the two felt much busier (but the food was still good!). 5y
rabbitprincess Also, if you go to Oxford, bring an extra suitcase so you can shop at Blackwells 😍📚💸 5y
ShyBookOwl @rabbitprincess ale pie?! Cool! I'll remember the extra suitcase tip too 😊 5y

Finally getting in a little after work reading. It's a cooler day, so I draped myself in a crochet shawl I made in the fall. On-theme for this Vampire Knitting Club book.

Starting book 3 of The Vampire Knitting Club. It's the first one that is centered around crochet 🤗 I can't wait to see what she does with it!

HotTeaGoodBooks Oh that sounds interesting! Is it in the cozy genre? 5y
Johanna414 Ill have to check these out! 5y
ShyBookOwl @HotTeaGoodBooks it is. It was the first cozy I read and I've since been gobbling them up, but this series is still my favourite to date 📚❤ 5y

QueenJen That's a beautiful afghan! 5y
ShyBookOwl @QueenJen thank you! 😊 5y
Melli I love the Afghan.. I am also a crocheter so I really want see how it‘s worked into the story 4y
ShyBookOwl @Melli thx! It wasn't as important to the narrative as I hoped it would be, but it was there. Fun story nonetheless 4y
