I liked the premise, but to me, it felt way too rushed, especially the love between the two main characters.
A cute graphic novel about magic, friendship and queerness. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A cute graphic novel 😊

A visually stunning graphic novel about love, family, and witchcraft, a delightful story that celebrates diversity and inclusion. Nova is a deaf witch who uses hearing aids and non-verbal spells, and Tam is a bisexual werewolf. The two girls fall in love as they work together to save their town, and their relationship is one of the highlights of the story. And more, Nova has two grandmas in a relationship with each other, too.
Loved it!
I‘ve been neglecting poor Archibald so I let him help me take a picture of todays Scarathon Photo Challenge post!
I am sorely lacking in witches in my TBR- this one is the most obvious lol.

Graphic novels are so fun! What better way to enjoy a lovely day in a hammock? This story has multiple forms of representation, plus a happy dose of magic.
This non-spoiler page made me laugh because it‘s such a funny and relatable millennial moment.
A sweet graphic novel! Nova works at her grandmother‘s bookstore - which often involves lots of spell books - and soon reconnects with her best friend Tam, who is a werewolf. Together they must battle a horse demon, while trying to figure out their feelings for each other.
So sorry for the late post. The day absolutely got away from me. Thank you so much @tdrosebud for your awesome #BasicWitchSwap #BWS package. I was so excited to see the book sleeve. I have never owned one before 😍 I don‘t own a lot of witchy books I am so happy to grow this part of my TBR. 🖤🔮🧡
Ahhhh thank you so much @erank58 for this amazing #BasicWitchSwap package! So excited to read these books, and the tarot deck is absolutely gorgeous. I have a very artsy family so I always love handmade - the wreath is so lovely! Happy Halloween and Samhain!
Thanks to @sprainedbrain for organizing! 🖤🎃👻

This is a full moon taken from my front yard. It looks better in person, but here it is. #OminousOctober Day 9. #TeamSlaughter
Super cute love story between a witch and a werewolf who are reunited childhood friends. All sorts of good representation; definitely one to add to my collection at work!
The wholesome twosome! Loved the relationship, the non-binary and deaf/ hearing-aid-wearer rep, the coming of age reflections, the kind of chill magic vibes, the unbelievable adorable forest spirits and the wolf demon/spirit redemption arc. So FLUFFY!
This is a really cute story but it's not really for me. I'm sure someone else would like it more but I just prefer a bit more plot and development to happen in a story even if it's a bit short.
Super dang cute graphic novel about a young witch and her werewolf friend (and then more than friend). I loved the matter-of-fact diversity in this book, especially Nova‘s family celebrating Sukkot and the Autumn Festival together! I also loved that it wouldn‘t pass the reverse Bechdel test 😂 But most of all I loved the magic, how they research and learn and cast. I did feel that it would be better if the villain had been more subtle.
I might have gone a little overboard with my #libraryhaul today 😅 but the librarian who checked me out was really enthusiastic about Mooncakes and we had a fun chat!
Sorry I‘ve been MIA for so long, friends—buying a house is CRAZY! But! This lil‘ graphic novel is so adorable, and the art is so neat (especially Tam‘s features are really carefully thought out) I absolutely had to make sure to recommend it. I especially enjoyed how the characters are diverse, but not as a plot-driver, and how seamlessly Nova‘s hearing loss is integrated into her magic.
That was such a cute read. The story was a bit garbled but the art was lovely, the characters were great and it was so nice to see a hard of hearing character where the story isn't about them being hard of hearing
Also, her hearing aids were so nice. The NHS would never 🤣
I‘m pleased to have squeezed another witchy read into October. I enjoyed this one - and I enjoyed the autumnal palette used.
Roxas and I are rereading this gem just in time for Halloween! 🍁🎃🍁 #catsoflitsy #littenkitten #roxas
Halloween seems to be a big cover read time of year for me, but I‘m really glad I indulged my impulse on this one. It was right up my alley! I think my favorite thing was that it‘s one of those rare YA titles where the adult main characters are rendered as, if not more, fully than the teens. Especially in the art. You get a lot of personality in the way the grandmothers are drawn. I also really liked the blending of Sukkot & Midwinter Festival.
I saw this on a Buzzfeed Halloween/Witches books list and thought the cover was adorable. It‘s available on Hoopla, so I checked it out. The art was cute, but the story was choppy and fell flat for me. It‘s a quick read, but not particularly memorable. It‘s definitely not one I‘ll put on a reread list.
Okay this was super cute! A queer hard-of-hearing witch and a non-binary werewolf are reunited after a childhood friendship and team up to defeat a demon spirit (and maybe kiss a little 😉)
Lovely representation and beautiful art. It was such a perfect Halloween read 🍂
I love the cozy culture that comes alongside fall! For the sweater weather prompt of #Haunted, I thought this wonderful and inclusive graphic novel would be perfect. He characters all wear various sweaters throughout! #GraphicNovel #Autumn #Inclusive @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
Almost every time I‘ve asked for graphic novel recommendations, Mooncakes has come up! But it‘s out of print and I couldn‘t find it at any of my local libraries *but* I finally found a copy on eBay where the postage wasn‘t the same price (or more 🥺) as the book… (actually, I‘ve just looked it up again and it might have just been out of stock? but I feel like the journey that I took to find this developed character)
(recommendations welcome!)
There wasn‘t much explanation of this magical world or their family history upfront, so I felt confused for many parts throughout before I figured things out via context clues. The story was nice, but nothing too extraordinary for me. Long lost friends, a werewolf and witch, become lovers and help each other to take care of a demon. The art style wasn‘t something I liked that much either.
Went for a graphic novel this time! Happy Friday 🎉 may your weekends be BOOKed 😉

I loved this! Are there more? Because I really want there to be more. I love all the representation, the relationships among the characters (Nova and Tam, the Nanas, the family ties, the cats, the spirits, the friends...), and the witch/werewolf magic was just icing on the cake. So good! Thanks Hoopla, for making this easy to stumble across.
This was a fun and cute little graphic novel. Nova is a witch and her long lost friend Tam shows back up needing help honing her werewolf powers and taking down an evil cult and a demon!

This was a cute comic featuring a great cast of POC characters as well as lgbtqa+ and deaf representation which was something I really liked as there were some good nods to all parties.
Illustration wise, I liked the design and look of the characters. Each character had their own look and style which visually showcased more of that character.
My first finished read of this year was the graphic novel Mooncakes. Not quite my cup of tea it felt a bit too short but I tend to think that about graphic novels anyways. I know this one is about Nova and Tam but I'd totally love a series of them based on Nova's grandmas fighting the paranormal. Also a positive thing is the artwork in mooncakes is adorable.
I have wanted to read this for a while and was so happy it was on Hoopla. What a great story! So much representation! I will now need to get myself a copy because I will want to read it again. A witch and a werewolf story that is not your conventional story. And, a bit of a Tam Lin retelling. It was great. I am so happy I read this.
5 stars. This graphic novel stood out from others I have read. The storyline is rich and complete at 256 pages. We get to see well-rounded interesting characters (beyond the white hetero standard). Xu's illustrations are charming, engaging, and expertly rendered to align with Walker's story. I read this slower than other graphic novels because I wanted to spend time immersing myself in the illustrations and dialogue.
Finished this one in bed last night while trying to ignore election results. I've seen mixed reviews for it, but I thought it was solid. I loved the artwork. The characters and world building were fun, even if they weren't perfect. I liked the plot quite a bit too. One main character is a witch, the other is a werewolf. They have to teem up to defeat a demon brought by a cult. Also, there's a queer relationship between a girl and nonbinary person
