Seemingly freaky idea, but somewhat lacking the panic feeling I expected as a reader. Much too simple and easy for our protagonist in the end. No idea the reasoning for the heroin addict and cancer patient storylines. They served absolutely zero purpose in terms of the plot. And if you‘re going to say it was because it made them survivors, I beg to differ. In reality those things would weaken, not strengthen, the characters. I did still like it!!!
Excellent. This book seriously had me hooked from the first chapter and didn‘t relent until I ended it. Not only was it full of suspense and a terrifying storyline, it was perfectly crafted. This writer is a master of their craft and it shows in this heart racing thriller that I did not put down for almost a full day.
This book reminded me of a blockbuster action film, all flash and no real substance.
Scary premise- you get a call and your kid has been kidnapped. 😱 That grabbed me right from the start, but as the story progresses things started falling apart for me. Little details seemed overlooked which left holes in the story.
It is entertaining and a quick read, but like that blockbuster action film, it's just not memorable.
When you are trying to take a cutesy kitty photo with your kindle, but your cat has different ideas. 😹😹 The Chain has me fully hooked and flying through those pages though! 😱👌
Day 13 - #ReadInOneSitting #TheChain #AdrianMcKinty #GratefulReads
The Chain is one of those white-knuckle, stay-up-till-3 a.m. thrillers that keeps you reading feverishly because you just need to know how this one plays out. Part of the appeal lies in a fiendishly clever and original premise, a premise Adrian McKinty plots out flawlessly.
Would you be able to kidnap a child if your child's life depended on it? McKintry has written an action-packed thriller that will keep the pages turning. When Rachel decides that she needs to break The Chain, the tension increases and an unexpected twist throws Rachel's life into chaos. Will she ever be able to get out of this mess? Read and ask yourself how would you react to the demands of The Chain. Check out McKinty's Sean Duffy series too!
I really enjoyed this book! It is a realistic plot that has you questioning your own morals and just how far you will go to protect your child.
The story moved quickly making it easy to read. The characters were relatable and the antagonist was absolutely vile.
Definitely a book I'd suggest for those who like thrillers!

I liked part 1 of this book so much more than part 2. Part 1 had a great premise and tension. The action rolled right along and kept me engaged. I feel like the book should have ended there, even though that might have made it a rather short book. Part 2 completely lost my interest. Perhaps the resolution in part 1 made it difficult to feel any further tension in part 2. Whatever the cause, this wound up more a so-so than a pick for me. 3⭐️
I am not the right audience for this book, as I don't care for thrillers. I like character driven novels better. That being said, this book was pretty good for not having a lot of character development. I like thrillers for listening to when I work out, and this was perfect for that. ⭐⭐⭐.75/5
I thought part 1 of this book was great. It moved so quickly, but then I felt like part 2 dragged a bit. The book could have been a bit shorter in my opinion, but I do think the story was different than anything else I‘ve read. The book was a quick read, and I loved that it had shorter chapters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This had a great premise, but as other reviewers noted, kind of fizzled towards the end. The idea of an organization forcing child kidnap for ransom was intriguing, & I even liked the background on who was behind the chain. But I wasn't drawn in by any characters except maybe the kids, the bad guys were a bit cartoonishly evil, & by the end the chapters were too short & jumped around too much. Lots of suspension of disbelief required. 2.75⭐️s
Pick buuuuut I liked the first half way more than the second. Also, I am not a sunshine and rainbows person so I just don‘t love a super uplifting worldview 😂 overall, fun and entertaining. I disagree with the “jaws for parents” review.
My current read/listen. A spin on the old school chain letters, this is the stuff of #UrbanLegend, only these parents must continue the chain by kidnapping other children, or their own may end up in a #Coffin! #Screamathon #ScreamathonPhotoChallenge #ScreamathonReadingChallenge #Scarathlon #ChillingPhotoChallenge #TeamStoker 1pt
I really enjoyed the first section of the novel, but the second section became a little too ridiculous. Things fell into place quickly and too many coincidences were happening. In my opinion, this is sloppy writing. The two sections felt like different novels and the second part was too rushed. However, I really loved the first section and thought that the pacing and concept was thrilling.

If you have a thing for suburban housewives letting their inner Rambo out....this might be the book for you.
Honestly, the first half of the book I loved. The storyline is fantastically unsettling but my eyes still hurt from rolling all through the rest of the book. There's just a level of realism that I enjoy in a thriller and I think that got lost in this.
No spoiler but I actually uttered the words "Of course there are grenades" Out. Loud.
September flew by! While a few are hardcovers that I own ... since work‘s been BUSY I listened to them all! Some aren‘t my genre but I still liked them!! A lot of Halloween month titles worthy of a creeped out listen! Two WWII books that were well done! I‘m happy with the results! It was a great month of 🎧 reading!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ EDIT: I forgot to put Cold Storage by David Koepp on my Goodreads 😳 crazy month as that was also a good book!
🎧 thank you OverDrive the long wait was worth it. Lock Every Door was a fun book, I really didn‘t find it scary but it was a good book!! The Chain was really good suspense, a thriller! Maybe I‘ve read too many of these because this one was also a bit predictable BUT it didn‘t hurt the read. I liked the ending! Worthy of a read! Maybe I‘m being too generous but ... ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 ... anxiously awaiting October‘s BOTM choices! Got the APP!
Not too bad. I loved the concept but something fell a little flat. Maybe the characters? With such an intricate storyline something had to give. Right? Rachel must save her kidnapped daughter by kidnapping another child to keep The Chain going. Anyone who deviates from The Chain psys with their life.
It sounded so interesting, but I was so bored. I ended up skimming most of it. Towards the end it seems like the author‘s writing got lazy (clipped sentences basically saying the same thing as the previous sentence). Maybe it‘s meant to add some intensity, but it was just annoying. The only reason I‘m giving it a So-so is because the concept of the story was attention-grabbing [to me]. I was so looking forward to this too.
Brilliant! Finally, an original thriller. It lives up to the hype. I stayed up way too late to finish it last night. While reading it, I felt some anxiety watching my kids head out to the bus stop. “You are not the first and you will certainly not be the last... It‘s about chain.”
I love holiday weekends and time for long reading stretches. This was a little overhyped, in my opinion. The concept is fascinating and it has twisty and propelling moments. But the first half of the book got boring pretty quickly. It was good, but not spectacular. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This #audiobook was a wild ride. A quick read and unlike many of the "domestic thrillers" I've read in the past couple years. A different type of thriller that made me question how far I would go to protect my children. Good!! ?
