She thought she'd buried her past. But what if it's been hunting her this whole time? From the bestselling and award-winning author of The Marsh King's Daughter comes a startling novel of psychological suspense as two generations of sisters try to unravel their tangled relationships between nature and nurture, guilt and betrayal, love and evil. You have been cut off from society for fifteen years, shut away in a mental hospital in self-imposed exile as punishment for the terrible thing you did when you were a child. But what if nothing about your past is as it seems? And if you didn't accidentally shoot and kill your mother, then whoever did is still out there. Waiting for you. For a decade and a half, Rachel Cunningham has chosen to lock herself away in a psychiatric facility, tortured by gaps in her memory and the certainty that she is responsible for her parents' deaths. But when she learns new details about their murders, Rachel returns, in a quest for answers, to the place where she once felt safest: her family's sprawling log cabin in the remote forests of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. As Rachel begins to uncover what really happened on the day her parents were murdered, she learns--as her mother did years earlier--that home can be a place of unspeakable evil, and that the bond she shares with her sister might be the most poisonous of all.

#Two4Tuesday

1. Yea, books are different than even a decade ago. Not sure if that‘s better or worse. But they‘re more liberal with subject matter, which in turn gives people more liberty to share their opinion on them.

2. No, I‘m often surprised. I‘m in for the ride.

I really enjoyed this book! Good story that kept you wanting to know more. As I got into it I finally just couldn‘t put it down and had to know how it ended. Some reviewers complained the ending was rushed but I thought jt was perfect. I look forward to checking out the authors other book. Put this book on your list!

This one kept my interest and was structured with flashbacks every other chapter but super easy to follow. If you like #psychological #thrillers or #mysteries this book is for you! Also a great setting in the #UP of #Michigan too!

This book was pretty good! The ending felt a little rushed, and it‘s definitely not as good as The Marsh King‘s Daughter, but overall it was a good one.

Wow. I would have read this in a single day, but decided I wouldn‘t read it in bed to avoid nightmares. I

Rachel has sentenced herself to a psych hospital, certain that she is responsible for the murder of her parents. Trevor, a journalism student, brings her a clue that unscrambles her false memory. She returns to her childhood home, and her damaged sister & aunt to find the truth.

Again set in Michigan‘s UP, a wonderful, terrifying read.

sharread Oh this sounds so good. I live in Michigan it's always fun to read books from where you live. 😁 4y
CaitlinR @sharread Don‘t miss her Marsh King‘s Daughter, same author and also set in the UP. I‘m a Michigander too! 4y

I participated in a zoom call with author Karen Dionne on her virtual book tour. She gave away a book nook (pictured) to one lucky random person...and that was me! It even lights up!

I'm going to give this one 3.5 stars. While it certainly held my interest throughout, I wasn't blown away at any point. The premise is interesting, a child that is diagnosed at a young age with being a psychopath, and how a family struggles to live with this. Ultimately, no one is safe.

A digital library read finished for #bookspinbingo.

Book 3 read for #NetGalleyReviewathon This was a new author for me, but after enjoying this one I will be searching out her other books. A woman is in a mental institution thinking she murdered her parents some years before, when she finds evidence that questions this. Loved the telling of the book with the alternate dual timelines. Definitely a character you could buy into, a great storyline, tension and suspense as the book builds. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

sprainedbrain Sounds very good! And look at you go with your galleys! 🙌🏻 4y
